Worst hotel stay I have ever experienced. No hot water for a shower. No milk for the coffee. Cold room due to faulty window. No blanket. No phone to call reception had to go to reception in my pyjamas. Breakfast was tasty but plates pilling high on the tables, coffee machine not working.

We wanted a couple of days away to relax. As Hilton Honours members and requiring a location near the New Forest, we chose the Doubletree Southampton. On arrival it was most evident that all the hotel and staff had efficient covid measures in process. This was maintained without exception throughout our stay, ensuring that we felt safe and at ease. Front of house upon arrival were efficient, welcoming, even when having to negotiate other less understanding customers. Our room, once the covid seal was broken, was spotlessly clean and contained all of the basic requirements that we would need. The barman Klaas was exceptionally efficient and welcoming, ensuring that our dinner reservation was made and all our needs were met. The menu, although limited during these difficult times, was adequate and the food was cooked to an acceptable and tasty standard. The restaurant/bar staff including Daleep who served us on both evenings, couldn’t have been more welcoming and professional. The breakfast, although not Hilton’s normal extensive offering, was most agreeable. The breakfast staff on both mornings were pleasant, professional and welcoming. We accept these are not normal times, and we understand there are limitations with supplies, services and levels of staffing. However all this speaks volumes for the members of staff who we had the pleasure to meet. Thank you for a most enjoyable stay

I have stayed here several times: my experiences have always been positive. Given the situation over the last few years the staff have managed very well. Afternoon Tea is excellent and the hotel continues to provide Room Service. The hotel has Ground Floor rooms if you have any mobility difficulties. The hotel is a little way out of Southampton and I feel a car is needed. The hotel charges for overnight parking.There are good rates for parking if you are going on a cruise. All staff work very hard in difficult circumstances; they are exceptional with their young guests.

We visited the hotel earlier today and had an afternoon tea with my mum. We've had such a lovely time, the staff were super friendly. We were served by Kinga who was really lovely and helpful and also Jake was so welcoming and easy to talk to. The afternoon tea was actually delicious too, overall we've had a great time and I would definitely go back again ❤

Positive feedback – 1 food service member of staff was actually nice one morning of my stay. Negative feedback – lots, were do I start and end. I’ll summarise just a few! 1. I only stayed 2 nights on a business trip and ended up in 3 different rooms! Very stressful and tiring. 2. First room – 408 – kettle full of rust, room lights didn’t work, toothpaste splattered over sink area 3. Second room – 308 – bed (inside and out) covered with dog hairs, not a couple, which I could have coped with, but actually covered. Bedside light smelling of burning electrical wire and carbon monoxide detector activated near midnight, so hence change of room, yet again to my third room now. I initiated this change of room due to the potential of being killed by carbon monoxide, even though the male receptionist who had just come on night shift didn’t seem too bothered at all and proceeded to apply tape, which didn’t stick over flashing light and said it was up to me whether I wanted to change room or not. So, it’s now acceptable for Hilton customers to stay in a room that potentially has a carbon monoxide leak? 4. Food in restaurant – poor service, basics from drinks e.g. lemon etc missing and not even offered. Macaroni cheese came as spaghetti with bits of cheese flaked over! Honestly. 5. Reception team only apologised once and I felt this wasn’t genuine at all. Overall, the reception team gave the vibes and body language of not caring at all, they were impatient and blamed everything on COVID and lack of staff! You could write a book with the excuses I heard during my appalling stay. Overall, I’m totally disgusted and horrified with this hotel which is quite honestly a health and safety hazard and potentially a death trap. I am a loyal customer to the Hilton chain with my business travels but will never stay in a Hilton of any type again and recommend anyone who values their health/life to do the same. This hotel needs reporting to both Environmental Health and HSE. Do not stay in this hotel if you want a relaxing break, clean and comfortable environment without the potential of carbon monoxide positioning and a fire outbreak due to faulty electrical equipment.
