Myself and my wife stayed for 3 nights over 21/8/2015 till 23/8/2015. Then myself, wife, children and granchildren spent 1 night on 30/8/2015. On our first weekend at Ashurst I found the staff friendly and approachable. The toilet and shower block was as clean and modern as any site I have visted. A really peaceful site sitting on the edge...

It had been 20 years since I came here and it was like stepping back in time! The good points: very clean loos, showers, washing up areas but it's a bit of a nuisance to have an access code to use them. The 6 metre rule is enforced. Fortunately one of our group had brought a measuring tape....we needed it....

This was my first trip to Ashurst, being a long standing Hollands Wood camper, but as we have already been there several times this year we decided to try Ashurst; I'm not entirely sure I will be heading back there. Upon arrival I was driving slowly behind another car to the ticket booth when a man picked up a big...

Like many of us in our party, you may be having pre-conceptions of an idyllic getaway, locked away in the isolated pastoral wonderland of England's New Forest. As you sit there thinking about whether to purchase a pitch at this location, your mind takes you to a place of serenity, where all the ills of the world are left behind...

If you want to really experience the forest without troublesome people and are prepared to embrace the ethos of forest camping, then this is the site for you. Friendly, approachable and helpful staff who work tirelessly to ensure that the vast majority of the campers get to experience the tranquility of this fantastic location. The six metre rule between units definitely...

Easy to find site, fairly near a main road which is a shame, but still the promise of ponies was too great! Initially the staff were very friendly and helpful, dishing out various rules and handing us a leaflet of more rules, which I read. There was a strict 6 metre rule with the tent situation, however they seemed to...

Lovely location with the potential for a brilliant camping experience. However, the staff were appalling. A few things I don't appreciate when I've paid for what should be a relaxing experience: being spoken to like a child by obnoxious members of staff at reception- once when we first arrived and again when we were returning to the site after a...

So where do we start! We really don't have that many good points to let you know about. Good location but quite nosey (train and busy road abound the site) Nice site Reasonable facilities. toilets, showers. The bad points The staff were all horrible and seemed to enjoy casting misery on any campers that didn't have kids or weren't older...

We came to stay for a weekend on a friends birthday. It's a nice location with acceptable facilities, however the staff are absolute jobsworths out on a complete power trip. When we arrived they tried to turn us away because we arrived just past 9pm and this was deemed too late to pitch a tent! They also got irate because...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Perfect for seasoned or novice campers, this beautiful campsite is set in a woodland glade, surrounded by the majesty of ancient oak trees. Set on the edge of a small area of woodland known as Ashurst Wood, the wood opens up onto Matley Heath, an expanse of New Forest heathland criss-crossed with tracks ideal for walking or cycling. With countless direct routes into the unique New Forest environment via cycle and footpaths, this is a perfect base for exploring local flora and fauna. From the sanctuary of your tent you may be lucky enough to spot deer during quieter times and see the famous New Forest and Shetland ponies roaming freely. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed, however guide dogs are. There is also no electricity, however, there are toilets, a refurbished shower block and a launderette. ... more   less
