Stayed at the King Alfred whilst travelling for work. From the start the staff were friendly and helpful, the room was very comfortable and nicely done. Breafkast was in the room, but I'm happy with that. I took my laptop down to the pub and had a very enjoyable evening in the cosy bar by candelight. To eat I had...

We recently stayed at the pub on 2 separate occasions to visit family in the area and both our stays were excellent. Our rooms were large, well furnished and spotless with great bathrooms and comfortable beds. I had thought that accomodation over a pub might be noisy, but the bedrooms were quiet even on the weekend. The staff were friendly and...

popped into The King Alfred for sunday lunch. We didn't arrive until 2.45 & the kitchen was closing at 3. Luckily there was a table free & we quickly ordered drinks & food. I had beef bourguignon with winter greens. It was delicious. My wife had roast pork which she said was very good. The service was very polite &...

Went to King Alfreds for the second time today. This pub is a real find. The place is a great traditional style pub with a great atmosphere and and friendly professional staff. Good selection of beers and high quality pub food. Definitely recommended.

Food has improved but the choice of anything other than wine and lager has dropped through the floor. No longer an ale pub, unless you get your ale in the supermarket, 3 for £5. Sort it out, a once vibrant local has lost its direction and gained allot of cushions. Really shocked at the lack of imagination behind the bar...

A lovely pub with a great team. We stayed for two nights and were made very welcome by the staff. Unfortunately our car was broken into overnight but the guys at the King Alfred were very kind and could not do enough to help us out. We booked a large double room which was very clean and comfortable but perhaps...

What a fantastic place to stay! Stayed two nights, beautiful room, big comfy bed.Lovely except the one downer.. a large intrusive green light in the room just above the door. The room was bathed in green making it difficult to sleep. It is bright enough for corridors and public spaces, but for a bedroom far far too bright. Sort that...
