Arriving from Luton Airport, exhausted from travelling I couldnt have been made more welcome by Dorothy. The room was fresh, clean and very comfortable. I had a great nights sleep on an excellent mattress, just what the doctor ordered. The price is more than reasonable and with a delicious continental breakfast included. I will definately be returning.

I've stayed at fern cottage three times now and found it a very friendly and comfortable stay. I've stayed in two of the rooms now which were bright and very clean. I had the full english breakfast; and there was plenty of it , especially liked the mushrooms! I've recommended this lovely place to my friends and will definitely be...

I have to say I wonder whether we were staying at the same accommodation as the other reviewers. Our stay was for one night. First impressions were it looked quite quaint. It soon transpired that it is not possible to park without either blocking another guest in, or being blocked in. There is on-street parking, but it is minimal at...

Close to the main hustle of St Albans yet far enough away to feel secluded. The bedrooms are clean, well furnished and with good amenities. Great value for money! Your hostess is very charming, friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. Definitely a place to keep noted in your phone. Breakfast is relaxed and served in a very characterful dining room. If you...

My husband and I stayed at Fern Cottage when visiting my aunt in St Alban's in October.Fern Cottage was a nicely decorated, homely cottage. The bed was comfortable ans the continental breakfast was ample with Dorothee offering choices of cereals, fruit and cheeses and a choice of breads and croissants. The coffee was good. She was also very informative on...

I travel a lot for work so its always lovely to end up in St Albans at my little London home. I ve stayed here quite a few times now over the last few years and there are lots of reasons I keep coming back. Dorothea is a wonderful hostess and nothing ever seems to be too much trouble for...

Wonderfully charming bed and breakfast, bright, clean and comfortable room. My partner opted for the cooked breakfast and I had continental both of which were of excellent quality. I wish more places gave you the option to pay less and not have cooked breakfast, since I rarely want one but feel I'm somehow losing out if I don't so I...

A beautiful little b&b - rooms were all they were described as - lovely! Shame about breakfast - you apparently can't have a full English unless you book (the breakfast) in advance (but this is tricky if you are not told about it) for an extra £1 (who wouldn't)? Or was it because our host got confused about the hour...

We stayed here for one night as we were attending a function locally. Our family booked up all three rooms - two doubles and a twin; all en-suite. Pros En-suite accommodation Good Value Less than 20 mins walk to town Off street parking for 3 cars - very handy as St Albans isn't the easiest town to park in! Cons...

“If you prefer cooked breakfast, then don't order the breakfast, but go into town for breakfast or ask Dorothea if she will do one for you. I am not sure if she does this. If you need to sleep during the day ask for a room to the rear of the property as Old London Road can be noisy during the day, but its completely quiet after dark and I had no trouble sleeping whatsoever. Don't forget to ask for off street parking if this is something you want as it's limited.”

“A difficult question really, we've stayed in two rooms and found them to be equally good. Best to ask Dorothea for advice if you want something in particular. She offered to fill our water flask without being asked and we appreciate that sort of friendly help.”
