My company paid £50 plus per head for Christmas dinner and it was the worse dinner i have ever had..The soup was like water and tasted worse.inedible.. The turkey was rolled accompanied by 2 halves of a potato and a strange thick sauce..xmas pudding was grainy and had the same cranberry's on the top as was on the side for...

Dear Jackdon Thank you for taking the time to post your review following your recent visit to St Michael's Manor Hotel for your Christmas party. I am sorry that we failed to meet your expectations and that clearly the meal was not to your liking. The soup served on the night was a dairy free variety which does have a...

My husband and I spent our wedding night here. We had booked sometime in advance and we were mailed to be informed of an upcoming Christmas Party, I advised that we had not been made aware of this and we were given an upgrade to a luxury room. Upon arrival we were made to feel really welcome and congratulated by...

We returned yet again for our 15th Wedding Anniversary & were even more impressed this time. The place is so well kept & looking amazing with the Christmas decorations. The food was truly delicious - quality not quantity & so beautifully presented. Staff were unobtrusively attentive & the atmosphere was warm & relaxing - we didn't want to leave! So...

I chose St Michael's Manor for lunch with an old friend, slightly apprehensive since he is not the 'hotel type'. However, he was very impressed by the stylish atmosphere, the wonderful views, the attentive service - and not least the superbly cooked and presented lunch. The hotel was quiet and refined, no canned music and all the guests smartly dressed...

Dear ClassicalBoy Thank you for your glowing endorsement of our Lake Restaurant following your recent lunch - I am delighted that you enjoyed the experience and that your friend was persuaded that a hotel dining room can be (and often is) just as good as a non-hotel restaurant. There is often a preconception that hotel dining rooms are stuffy and...

The hotel is a beautiful real british manor. Extensions of the building are cleverly incorporated. Very Nice garden bordering a small lake. The bedroom is very good with excellent beds . The restaurant menu is english but not very interesting tough Service is attentive and professional .

Dear PietHeint_Axis Thank you for your review of St Michael's Manor Hotel following your recent stay. We have a beautiful hotel in a beautiful setting and many people comment on this. Overall St Albans stay good but rather felt the hotel resting on past laurels and rather full of itself. Pricey for what it was. Afternoon tea far from what I expected, scones excellent but extremely poor jam. Service ok but not exceptional.

We stayed here for one night. The overall ambiance was of a country house hotel but located in the centre of St Albans in beautiful grounds. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This magnificent town-house hotel, set in five acres of beautiful English country gardens with lake, is remarkably close to the city centre. The Newling Ward family converted the 500 year-old building in 1965 and continue to own and run the hotel. The 30 bedrooms are individually styled, with many overlooking the lake and gardens, and the award-winning orangery style restaurant shares the same views. Enjoy breakfast, lunch, bar snacks, cream teas and dinner served in a choice of dining areas. ... more   less
