We got there during our short trip to St Albans for one pint of beer and cider, but were very happy that we decided to pop in. Cloudy cider my wife had was close to perfection and my pint of golden ale tasted good in this rainy day. We didn't manage to get any food as kitchen was closed between...

We had been looking forward to visiting this pub, with its great history and beautiful location. Unfortunately we were left a bit disappointed with both the service and the food. We had burgers - which were average. The staff were far from smiling, and they were not very service oriented. We hardly saw them outside and when ordering inside they...

Went here for a family birthday lunch, Bar staff were very friendly and helpful, but to say the Sunday roast was very disappointing is an understatement, The roast lamb had blood coming out of it and the Yorkshire pudding when it did arrive was burnt. We were charged £6.00 for three extra Yorkshire puddings that never arrived, The manager then...

We went here for a friends wedding reception. The food was amazing, succulent, juicy and full of flavour. The chef has done himself proud. The price of drinks though, £2.50 for a coke though.... Can't comment on the price of food on the menu as it was part of the reception. If they were to reassess the price of drinks...

Best food of this trip and in the top ten of all our trips to the UK. In addition to the excellent food, the staff are some of the most friendly we have had anywhere. The pub itself is one of the oldest in the UK and claims to date to the 8th century. They are located just down the...

This is a lovely pub full of character and original features. It is located on a lovely setting at the edge of the park. Their staff is friendly and they serve thé best rare roast beef on a Sunday. Highly recommend.

Walked past here on exploring Veralanium Park and decided to pop in for lunch on the way back. Looks a bit tatty on the outside but the inside is lovely with different bar and seating areas on different levels. Extremely warm welcome by the publican who couldn't have been more helpful or friendlier. Excellent choice of ales and traditional English...

Visited yesterday it was busy with a lovely cozy feel. They say it's the oldest pub in the country. Not sure about that. The fire was burning creating a great atmosphere. Great beer and burgers. Staff very friendly. Will be back
