We booked to say in the cottage. Parking is on the street and we never had trouble getting a space right near the house and the owners very helpfully provided parking permits to display in the car so we never paid extra for parking which was great. The living room is cosy with a dining table. We enjoyed lovely evenings here. The cottage is decorated very nicely and had a homely feel. They even left a book with tips on where to visit and information on the cottage which was helpful and a nice touch. Any questions we had Sebastian was happy to help. For the price this was perfect and walking distance to the centre of Canterbury. It is on a main road which can be quite busy at certain times of the day which was probably my only disappointment as it wasn't as quiet as I would have liked but its on a main road so i guess traffic noise is to be expected. Aside from that it was an enjoyable stay. The shower wasn't great but we managed as only stayed for a few days, it worked but could have been better. Would stay here again though and would recommend to family and friends, for the price it is very reasonable for Canterbury and we had a lovely time staying at the Arthouse cottage.…
We booked a fairly last minute 2 night stay in this arty looking B&B in an old Victorian fire station. We expected rooms in a shared house but to our surprise we had a whole 2 bed cottage to ourselves. Lovely space clean newly decorated and well furnished. Even had lovely garden with furniture. It is on a busy main road but no other criticisms (although stairs would be steep for some) Great position within 5-10 min walk from city centre. Would highly recommend
I stayed for two nights with my partner to visit Canterbury. The place is well located, spacious and clean. The shared lounge area and kitchen make you feel like home and the atmosphere is very relaxing and welcoming. The room was comfortable and cosy, however I would have appreciated a lamp on the chest of drawer. There were two lamps available but without light bulbs. The en-suite toilet/shower was of a good size, everything working apart from some issues in getting the temperature of the water good enough in order not to scald ;) The toiletries were for one person, but since we stayed just two nights we managed to share what we had. The Refectory Kitchen serves fresh and delicious food, so the breakfast was great and I think the overall price is very good value for money. We really enjoyed our stay and had a relaxing time. Definitively recommended!…
Clean spacious room with shared dining room lounge and kitchen to one other room, all very clean and well equipped, owner was helpful and polite. Car parking is tight but I love the fact the whole place is a little quirky and that you park through the big red gates of the old fire station. Short distance to walk into a pretty, historic city centre and a short drive to the coast. I’m not moaning because I had read the room reviews but bedroom 2 does have its own private bathroom down 2 flights of stairs just bare this in mind when booking, however bathroom itself is perfectly fine and well worth the special rate we found on booking.com £100 for 2 nights.
I stayed here for two nights with my girlfriend and university friends for a reunion and wedding. The owners have done really well with the interiors. Feels like a home and the bed we stayed in was really comfy. Luckily this place was available and had the right amount of space for me and my friends when we needed it. Would easily work for families too. If you're going to stay in Canterbury this is a great base.
I needed a 3 night stay in the Canterbury area and luckily hit on The Arthouse (aka The Old Fire Station). It was just my kind of place and somewhere I instantly felt at home. There are only two rooms in the main house and I had the big room at the front - lovely spacious, sunny, south-east facing room with the only drawback being that its bathroom is down two flight of stairs. Not a big problem and is good exercise! I'd brought food with me so made extensive use of the well fitted kitchen and lovely dining room. The lounge was also super comfy & cosy and had lovely views out towards the centre of town. The location is fantastic, being right on the edge of town and only 10-15 mins walk from the centre. Getting in and out of the narrow driveway is a bit of a challenge and probably best not attempted by less than confident drivers! Seb popped in to say hello on day 2 and was super helpful when we had a small issue with the heating. Thanks for letting me practise my DIY skills! Overall a great stay - I will be back!…
Arrived to a warm house and warm room. Beautifully decorated and with all amenities. Loved the use of attractive living room and kitchen. Bed very comfortable. I was there for a very stressful business meeting and this room really helped me to relax. Owner was very friendly and really kind. Breakfast is taken in a cafe near the accommodation. Quality of breakfast outstanding! I will definitely stay here again!!!!
Great place to stay in a wonderful 3 story town house. Fully equipped with everything you could need from bathroom toiletries, to hairdryer and iron, full washing and drying facilities and coffee and tea provided. Beautifully clean and very homely - I stay in hotels or apartments every week and it's very rare to be in a situation like this where it's basically faultless. Even the wifi is strong. My only request would be an egg cup as I do love my boiled eggs in the morning! I think that goes to show just how much is provided! Thank you to the owners, who are equally wonderful, right there if you need them but not in any way interfering. Perfect.
Would like to thank the owners of The Arthouse for a wonderful stay. Lovely, clean and peaceful B&B which made for a comfy and cosy stay. Welcoming owners who were happy to help with anything. Also great choice of cafe for morning breakfasts. Would definitely recommend and stay again!
Visited last weekend and will definitely use every time in Canterbury. There is private parking in what I presume is the old fire station yard behind the big red doors The layout was lovely, clean and boutique in style Left a jacket and Adele and Dominic so helpful in ringing us and we arranged collection on way back through Fantastic place but more importantly fantastic service
