Lovely hotel. Short stroll to city centre, breakfast absolutely delicious! Staff were kind and exceptionally helpful. Our room was great and super clean with a view over the beautiful gardens. We enjoyed staying in the hotel so much that we are looking to book one of their apartments for Sept!

Stayed for 3 nights with my two teenage daughters in a family room at the top of the house (room 9). Clean and comfy with plenty of space. However, the en-suite bathroom although clean and modern, had a hopeless shower which took ages to run warm and was not much more than a dribble when it did! Otherwise a great location for town and good value for money.

Stayed here for one night with the family as we were catching a ferry from Dover the following day. Decor is a bit tired, but good sized family room (we stayed in 13) and bathroom was modern and clean. Beds were comfy and we slept well. Would have been a good review, but…,,, We pre-booked breakfast for 7.30 (the earliest time permissible) as we had to leave by 8.15 to catch our ferry. Pre-booking is mandatory so we filled in the form given for the cooked breakfasts we wanted and handed it to reception. When we went down at 7.30, we were greeted by the waiter/receptionist (more about him in a bit). 2 other tables were occupied followed by a third that was occupied 10 minutes after we arrived. We were given toast and coffee and waited for our cooked breakfast. And waited. And waited. All other tables were served, including the one that was occupied after we arrived. Eventually, after 30 minutes of waiting and with no sign of any waiting staff to ask, I decided to go to the kitchen to ask where are food was. Our waiter was propped up against a wall looking at his phone. I explained that we had booked for 7.30 and it was now 8am and we had a ferry to catch. There was no sign of our breakfast. I told the waiter that we would have to leave it as we didn’t want to risk being late for the ferry and asked that we receive a refund for breakfast. The waiter/receptionist told me that I’d have to email as he wasn’t able to process refunds. No apology for the lack of breakfast, no concern shown. We went to the room to get our luggage and came down and handed the key in. The same waiter/receptionist thanked us. I then asked if he was going to offer an apology for the breakfast issue; he just stared at me and said nothing. Clearly this lad has a bright future ahead of him. All in all, I’m really angry about how he handled this. It’s really easy to say sorry, but clearly it’s too much for this place. Won’t be going back and will be asking for a refund for breakfast - not holding out much hope though.

We arrived on very busy day it was graduation day so everywhere was busy we was able to check in earlier than was stated, we had room 11 top of hotel being as this is an old building the stairs creaked and the door s and walls were not straight a nice character, our room was tasty decorated fairly spacious large king bed welcome tray coffee and tea etc plus a bottle of fresh water out, my case was mega heavy the guy on reception offered to take it up to outside our door I’m glad he did at my age 69 I don’t think I would have made it, there is a large large bed but sprung, there is hanging space we tried the shower/bath the clean our dog and the hot tap got stuck I tried to contact reception but our phone in room was faulty I went down reception and the guy came up and sorted it out. A short walk down the road brings you to Canterbury centre a mixture of shops in modern buildings and old world buildings plus historic parts of Canterbury the cathedral in its splendour is smack bang in the middle of the town plus many other heritage sites to visit. after a nice walk into town we decided to chill in our room and Oder a take away it’s easy to order and get delivered if you have any of the delivery apps our Chinese was delivered 40 minutes earlier than stated As I said earlier the beds are sprung beds are a bit uncomfortable if your used to foam or latest type of mattress, because the windows are not double glazed (being a older house ) it does get a bit chilly at night, the breakfast is to die for and such good service you can have continental breakfast mixed with a full English that you order the night before and it’s cooked to perfection and as you want it on the table, we left our car in the car park small if a normal day unfortunate for us yesterday as I stated it was graduation day so all hotels and car parking spaces where full you don’t need a car if you just want to explore the city it’s a 10 minute walk to the town we went into town again Saturday it wasn’t as busy as Friday so made a nice walk if you have a dog there are certain parts of the city that that are more congested than others so mind how you go with the dog there are some restaurants and coffee places that are dog friendly which as we had a dog was nice going back to the hotel we were on top floor if you have a bigger dog it might be better to book a room on ground floor as higher up more steps to take your dog out if the need to go out the minus point of an old house like this at night you can hear every step of people going to thier room and doors opening and closing not good to disturb you or your dog barking at noise outside lastly the service and way you were treated by the young staff was excellent the breakfast was excellent the rooms were good just that it’s an older hotel and few bits were a bit tired and creaky

Stayed one night at this hotel. Was looking forward to a good night sleep after visiting this beautiful town. I was horrified when I saw the state of the bed, not only was the sheet stained, the side of the bed was torn and just left unattended but worst of all was the state of the mattress. You could feel the springs and the wood underneath, absolutely horrific night. The hot water flow was very poor not to mention a stained carpet. Breakfast was okay although bacon was very salty, at least the coffee was nice and the staff were friendly. Now I understand why they want you to pay upon arrival and not on checkout. Requested a refund but the absent manager simply refused over the phone. Plenty of other hotels to choose from in the area.

Response from Ebury Hotel, General Manager at Ebury Hotel and Serviced Apartments
Responded 2 Feb 2023
Thank you for your review . I am sorry you did not seem to like us . I have to say I have had no complaints prior to your stay regarding the mattress I do understand that all mattress are diffrent and one size does not suit all. You mention that I am absent manager well I pleased to say that I am not but I do live 20 mies away and I think Im allowed a homelife and even a day off and it was 930 pm so I feel the odd night at home is acceptable . One thing I would say is that your daughter said to a member of the team was to " Just to ignore you" and that you were not an easy person to travel or go on holiday with. I also just would like to say your attitude to the team mebers was rude condersending and not acceptable prehaps you should reflect on that ? I wish you well in yourr future travels. Kind regards Simon.

The hotel is in a great location about 10 minutes walk from Canterbury centre with great shops and a good selection of lovely restaurants. We stayed in one of the cottages (room 10) which although spacious, was in need of updating. The beds were comfortable and the tea tray was welcome. It wouldn’t take much to fix the issues but just needs someone who cares enough to do so. Although I had called the hotel earlier in the week and was told the hot tubs were working (one of the reasons for choosing Ebury) on check in we were informed one wasn’t working and the other probably wasn’t hot enough due to energy bills being so high so they don’t keep them heated! We would probably return as we loved Canterbury and the location but would perhaps try one of the rooms in the hotel rather than the cottage.

Great stay, staff were very friendly. We stayed two nights for a weekend in Canterbury. The hotel has a good car park and is a very easy walk to the town center. Our room was good, had a good nights sleep. The room especially the bathroom could do with updating. The breakfast was great, a great continental selection and cooked. Overall a great stay and great value for money.
