The Premier Inn Canterbury City Centre hotel garners mixed feedback from guests. While the central location near town amenities is highly appreciated, the service has received criticism for being inattentive and occasionally dismissive.
Room experiences vary, with some lauding the clean and comfortable spaces, yet others point out maintenance and cleanliness issues. Despite the modern atmosphere and generally praised cleanliness, the value proposition is tarnished by parking charges and inconsistent pricing that leave some guests feeling shortchanged.

Premier plus room was brilliant, bed was so comfy and the fridge was great, the breakfast is good value for money and the location is perfect, there is a waitrose opposite. There are car parking spaces on site but not many and the cost was £10 for 24 hrs. Which was much cheaper than the nearest council run car park, the only problem was the lifts, there are 2 and only one goes all the way to the 4th floor, the other only goes to level 2. I think this needs to be sorted ASAP as it caused major issues for other patrons, me.and my mate worked out how to work them.

I usually give a 5 star review for Premier Inn but did experience some problems on my stay here.
I had fully paid for my room but on arrival the receptionjst insisted I had only paid a deposit and there was more to pay, despite me showing her an email that said I had fully prepaid. In the end we got the manager and there seems to have been some kind of admin error as there was a payment on the system but I had actually paid, so this was sorted out. However I didn't like the attitude of the girl on reception who assumed I was in the wrong, this is not good customer service.
Also at breakfast on our second morning I was told I was only allowed one free child for breakfast not two as I am a single parent (even though the previous day it hadn't been a problem!!). The girl was insistent that only one was free even though I told her I had been a Premier Inn customer for years, she also grilled me on their ages! She spoke with the manager and said she'd let us through "just this once", again assuming I was wrong! We had our breakfast and meanwhile I googled the Premier Inn website for proof that 2 children were allowed to eat free with one adult and asked for the manager, a different one this time. He confirmed that I was right and the girl was wrong and that he would speak with her. He also apologised profusely to me.
Fantastic managers here who sorted out these problems but there seems to be an issue with the attitude of the younger staff who don't seem to understand customer service and not only that, Premier Inn customer service, which is usually exceptional. Both interactions left me with a bad taste in my mouth.
Other than that, price and location were perfect, we parked in a bay behind the hotel to unload the car then parked in the park and ride 5 mins away and rode the bus back, really easy and only £3.50 a day in the park and ride vs the city car parks.

Hotel is in a good location, however it was not made clear on booking that we would have to pay for parking in a council car park. They cannot do anything about this clearly, but it should be made more clear as our cheap night away ended up costing nearly £30 for 26 hours. Could a deal not be made with the council to offer reductions for hotel guests?
The room was clean and comfortable, but the air con was slow to alter the temperature, and cannot be set below 19 degrees which makes the room uncomfortably warm when there are 3-4 bodies in it overnight! Shower and bath were lovely.
Breakfast was disappointing. All our cooked breakfasts arrived cold and had to be returned to be heated up in the microwave. Advertised as 'all you can eat' but they had run out of mushrooms and all pastries by the time we got there. Also no one cleared our plates and asked if we wanted any more, so not really all you can eat. Staff were working hard and clearly it is challenging at these times, but it was obvious they are not used to providing table service and could use more staff during this time.

Stayed for one night. Sadly this does not have parking and overnight parking in Canterbury is extortionate, but luckily we had use of the Travelodge car park. However dropping off bags at the premier inn was challenging, There is a small car park to the rear of the property where we were told we could pull into to drop bags off. However this was full and we had to block someone in whilst we checked in, not good! They really should buy themselves a waiting area, rather than guests having to upset the rightful users of the car park. Definitely not a good start to the stay.
The room and the hallways are tired, though they looked clean. Sadly our room smelled of stagnant water. I suspect the rooms have not been used for a little while and water has been standing in the pipes, if it’s not that then have a big issue. We were there overnight and the smell didn’t go away.
On the plus side I asked reception for extra milk and was given that with no questions asked.
It’s a slightly longer walk into the town centre than the Travelodge but we’re talking minutes not hours. Good Waitrose opposite and a small supermarket underneath the hotel
Finally it’s entrance needs bigger and better signage from the street level.
Good place to stay if they can sort out the smell and you’re not bringing a car!

I’ve been here many times as my mum lives nearby, so we book a room if we want to stay for the weekend. Encouragingly, there were plenty of signs saying how they had in house cleaners so I could rest assured their cleaning standards were extra rigorous because of Covid-19 and the desk had a Perspex screen and was being manned 24/7 to save me having to press buttons on a machine. When I got to my room all looked as normal until I needed to pee. Lifted the lid and saw drying pee on the seat. Luckily, I brought antibacterial wipes ‘just in case’. As something so basic as cleaning the toilet hadn’t even been done, I cleaned every hard surface and it was clear from the muck on several wipes that no one had paid any attention to desks, soap dispensers, light switches, lamp bases recently, as promised on the signage. I told the guy at the desk who just offered to move me to a different room. Why, when I’d just cleaned the room I was in? Er, no thanks! Talking to and actually monitoring the cleaners would have been the best response! Also, there was no bath mat, no teaspoons, only one pointless squishy pillow each, the hairdryer was sticky, stopped working after 30 seconds and smelt of burning. Setting off home with wet hair feeling dirtier than when I arrived despite having just showered. If I develop COVID-19 it’ll be because I stayed here...

We stayed here as an overnight stop on the way to the Eurotunnel. The hotel is very well-located just a few minutes’ walk from the city centre shops. We parked in the nearby Longport car park (it cost around £15 from 5pm to 8:45am) and walked up to the hotel.
On our arrival day, the door key card system had gone down so all staff were run ragged taking people to their rooms, yet they were still upbeat and friendly on arrival.
Our room was clean and tidy, as Premier Inn hotels usually are. We backed on to the flats behind, looking across at the neighbouring Waitrose. There was zero noise from the roads or from other rooms. I was a little concerned about cleanliness based on previous reviews but the hotel entrance, lobby, corridors and our room were absolutely spotless.
Unfortunately, our little girl was sick all over our bed that evening. The staff were amazingly helpful. They sorted new bedding, bin bags, towels, gloves and an odour removal spray. We are extremely grateful for all their help, especially amid the door key chaos.
Breakfast was amazing. A fantastic range, all cooked beautifully. We’ve had a few Premier Inn breakfasts but this was one of the best we’ve had.
We’d definitely come back here again. What a great hotel!

Hotel is close to the city centre, the room was very quiet, even though it overlooked a big intersection we barely hear the traffic below. Very clean and comfortable but room decor could be refreshed. We were charged extra for wifi that we couldn't receive as the signal was so bad

Our booking clearly start check in was at from 2.00 pm. We arrived at 4.00 pm and were told that our room was not ready and they didn’t know when it would be. We had had a long drive, over 6 hours and wanted to shower and change as we had dinner arrangements but the member of staff was very unhelpful. We ended up leaving to go to dinner uncharged or washed with our bags in the car. When we did get into our room there was one pillow each, one tea bag between 2 of us and it was generally in need of some maintenance. We were so tired after such a long day we decided to just go to bed. The following day we found that the bar was not open. One the day we checked out we were lacking our things and noticed a blood stain on the mattress.

We know what to expect from a premier inn usually extremely comfy beds very clean rooms and bathroom and great service. Only the comfy bed lived up to expectation. I know we are living through Covid but it could be clean and more professional service at breakfast could be offered.
What a disaster the first day breakfast came after an hour. 2nd day nothing arrived only drinks so we walked out and cancelled day three and all our money refunded. The week before we stayed at a premier inn and the staff were so scruffy and shouting. We have a stay in another at the beginning of July and not to excited to go I have to say. Hoping we can all get back to normal soon.

Hotel rooms looking a bit tired and in need of a lick of paint, the bed was comfortable and the shower adequate, I personally don’t like fixed shower heads.
Evening meal waiting staff very good, meal tasty a few items were crossed off
Breakfast, how I wished someone told me that the kitchen closes at 10.30am on a week day when I booked this time slot. We were only just able to order a cooked breakfast. A member of our group was unexpectedly delayed and we were told rather rudely, by a lady dressed in a skirt suit, presumably management? to order for them. The tea and coffee machines were turned off and turned around and the continental breakfast area had its doors closed a short while after we arrived. I appreciate that the kitchen has to close at sometime, but don’t take bookings for the time it closes.
There was only one member of staff taking food orders, bringing the food in, clearing the tables, cleaning the tables and manning reception, she was working so hard. Hats off to her

Small(Ish) hotel. 4 disabled spaces seems enough for say 350 days a year. I don’t see how you can stop the now extremely selfish brits parking illegally or what the hotel could do about it if they did. If it was me, I would not take the risk on a day with a train strike!
No food was available at all when I stayed there, because of pandemic-related concerns. There is a Tesco metro beneath the hotel, so it was possible to get food, of a sort. I assume that the restaurant has re-opened, but you should certainly check.
