Some areas of this old hotel could do with redecoration, but my room had been recently painted in attractive warm colours. It was generous in size, including the en-suite which had space for a bath. The bed was comfortable, the lighting excellent, and the sharp television was nicely recessed to avoid reflections. Bonus points for including decaffeinated coffee in the...

We stayed at this hotel already aware of some negative reviews. The location is unbeatable near the town centre but not noisy. We booked at short notice by phone and this went without hitch. The welcome from the woman on reception was a little luke-warm but the man at breakfast (who was also the cleaner) was pleasant and enthusiastic. The...

As you'd expect with hotels like this, the interior isn't the most modern. That said, our room (51) seemed to have been recently refurbished. The bed sheets were clean, as was the bathroom which is all that really mattered to us. The biggest plus point was the hotel's location; it's a 5 minute (if that) walk into the centre of...

We stayed here for one night after we had been in the Tunbridge Wells Travelodge for 2 nights and were unable to get a 3rd night there. The Russell is a lovely old building in the style of Tunbridge Wells, very quaint and beautiful. However once you get past the check in desk the interior looks like it hasn't been...

Stayed for one night ! The hotel is quite dated, but we were fortunate to have a room that had been updated, it was on the top floor, which did not bother us, it was very clean & the bed was comfortable, was also very quiet, the staff were very helpful & friendly. The breakfast was very good too, very...

Yes, the hotel is tired but could not fault anything else. The receptionist was so very helpful and pleasant, could not do enough for us. The rooms, although perhaps need a makeover were clean and the bed was ultra comfortable. The breakfast was delicious ! The position of the hotel is a couple of minutes walk from the town centre...

We stayed at The Russell Hotel over the Christmas period. We were warmly greeted by the manager and we were given room number 51 at the very top. The room was clean and spotless and we were given a box of complimentary chocolates and a card from the the hotel which I thought was a lovely touch. Breakfast was plentiful...

Tunbridge Wells has serious accommodation problems price-wise. In December a TW B&B was charging exactly TWICE the nightly rate of what is probably the best B&B in Bournemouth! We had read the reviews of the Russell Hotel but were definitely not disappointed.Of course parts of it are in a '60's time warp but we had a large bedroom, excellent bedding,...

Very shabby. Great location and an okish breakfast, but it's not had a penny spent on it since the 60's and I am not exaggerating! Very dated and very bashed. Cobwebs everywhere. Manky carpet. Too expensive for what you get!
