Booked for an anniversary treat. Lovely location, tiny village with church, a post office, couple of shops a butchers and a pub! Room at the hotel was lovely, very quirky and creaky with sloping floors (which just added to the charm) with huge four poster bed and wooden beams throughout. All kept lovely in keeping with the age of the...

This was the perfect location for our forty fifth wedding anniversary. The Inn had a wonderful 'olde worlde' feel plus the food and service were excellent. There are several places of interest to visit nearby and we would recommend it for any occasion.

Made most welcome in this charming family run inn in rural Kent. Rooms in keeping with age of building complete with sloping floors and low beams so be careful! Our room had a decided slope and the bed also could have done with a wedge to put it on the level to save falling out of. I guess this all...

We were more then happy with all aspects of the stay (Barn room + garden) food was excellent, and the room was to a very high standard. Gwen was a joy to be served by, and gave alot of information about the local area, to assist our stay. Cant wait to come back.

Wonderful quirky rooms , fabulous food , friendly service, what more could you ask for. I will definitely be back, this beats a monotonous predictable chain hotel any day. OK the wifi and cell reception are not the best but you are in the heart of Kent, there was always a good signal on the ipad both in the bar...

Overnight stay. Friendly olde world inn, food is fabulous and reasonably priced, good buzz in the bar, friendly regulars. Room OK with sloping floors, nice garden with pond and a car park. Loved it. Great overnighter before photo shoot at nearby WHF

We stayed here in early September. The room was one of the outside barn ones - barn1. It was a cramped and poorly designed room. It had a decent sized comfortable bed with room under it for suitcases. The wardrobe is inset into the wall and its door barely passes the side of the double bed to open - and...

We stayed in the beautiful village of Smarden to attend the Wildlife Heritage Foundation. When we arrived at the Chequers Inn we were unenthusiastically greeted and shown to our room, the Superior Double Room, just outside. Nice beams and character, but no view, other than plants the one window you are able to look out, and as it looks out...

Stayed here for two nights, what a lovely little place. The building has character, the locals are friendly and the staff are excellent. Food was great, all in all and great place for a quiet getaway. Highly recommended!

We enjoyed a nights stay here after returning from Europe. It is a lovely Inn with loads of original features. Although the bathroom was very small it was well appointed with one of the best showers I have seen. the room itself was a nice size and very comfortable. After enjoying the breakfast I was sorry that we hadn,t got...
