I stay here fairly often (2 or 3 times a year) and have given a previous favourable review of the hotel. Nothing has changed as far as the hotel is concerned (all as previously reviewed) but the parking facilities are getting more annoying, It has previously been the case that the nearest car park (council-owned I believe) would charge for... If you like good service then this is the place for you! The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the service in the restaurant was equally as great. Lovely rooms with decent sized bathrooms! Food is absolutely delicious, on our last morning the chef called in sick and the owner herself cooked our breakfast- hats off to her!

The Allerdale Hotel offered almost everything required for an overnight business stop over for a two day contract in nearby Workington. The room was comfortable, warm and exceptionally clean. The bathroom was both spacious and provided everything required. For once the shower wasn't a mild dribble. The staff were helpful, and provided a top quality service. Breakfast was a fantastic... We had a lovely large downstairs room but would've enjoyed bathroom opposed to shower room as there was space for one. Things a bit tired but big comfy bed. Staff helpful overall but given some misinformation about parking car locally Breakfast all ok

We chose this Hotel to stay at whilst visiting the Lakes distillery. The rooms we had 201 202 were lovely with enormous beds and lovely showers.the staff could not do enough for you and we're really helpful. There was a wide range of choice for breakfast and the Cumbria no breakfast was delicious. There is plenty of bars and restaurants... More

Pros. Great breakfast. Cons. Room was very tired, stayed on top floor. It did look like they were slowly renovating the hotel and bistro/bar was good. However our room was trapped in the 1960s. Smelt stale and dusty, terrible decor. Wifi non existent in room, patchy at best down in the bar. Location was good.

Trad family run hotel with wine bar restaurant attached. Room was comfortable if a little tired. Staff are all excellent and really tried hard to be helpful. Would return. Why does idiotic trupadviser make you write extra words when youve finished?

I stayed in a single room which has not been refurbished for some while. It was shabby but clean enough. A boxed in down pipe runs through the room, and that, the squeaky floor boards from the room above, the thin walls and the slamming fire door outside the room meant I felt I knew my fellow guests rather better... Stayed here overnight to do the via ferreta course at honnister slate mine. The staff were all very pleasant and the evening meal in the restaurant was excellent. We didn't have much time for breakfast as we had to leave before 8am on the Sunday(hot breakfast being served 8-10) but they very kindly allowed us cereal, toast, muffins, fruit etc... More
