Why did the hotel not contact me in advance to tell me they had moved us down to a normal room...furthermore, on arrival, reception accused me of never booking an upgrade ... I hate been...

Beautiful hotel in amazing surroundings. Stayed for 2 nights over NYE which included a Gala buffet on NYE which was brilliant. Live band and a buffet with lots of choice of hot and cold dishes. Rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable and the breakfast is delicious. All the staff were really friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for us....

We were a party of 4, and it was really nice not having to cook on Boxing Day. There was a decent selection of starters/main and deserts. Perhaps a better selection of veg would have been nice, as not everyone likes parsnips. I must admit i was a bit disapointed when I first saw my desert, which was the chocolate...

It's in a great location, close to both Cockermouth and Keswick. The views are amazing too.
