We parked the motorhome up and immediately the landlord shouted from the window that it was fine and he would open at 6pm. Trade quiet in November so only had one ale on tap. He did have others in bottles as well. Quirky layout with 1000 teapots hanging from the ceiling. Warm and welcoming. We declined an evening meal but... More

On arrival, there is nothing to tell you where to book in. If the pub is closed (which it is for most of the day) it appears to be completely shut. The owner, Mick, got a bit shirty when we ponted this out. Should have rung the bell, he muttered irritably, after we had been trying to get in for... More

We stayed here for a night after reading good reviews, however we were sadly disappointed. The property is just off a main road, about 4 miles from Cockermouth (so a car is essential). The positives - the rooms, although old-fashioned, were clean with comfortable beds and bathrooms which looked recently refurbished. The rooms were warm and had kettles, tea and... More

I needed somewhere to stay for one night whilst cycling the Cumbrian coast and I got lucky finding the Old Posting house. Landlord / owner was welcoming, helpful and good company. Large modern comfortable bedroom with large en-suite and great shower. A high standard of genuine home cooked meals and a huge cooked breakfast. Good Jennings beer. Will stay here... More

We stayed here for a night when visiting for a friends wedding - we arrived at 12:00 on the Saturday and the establishment was closed (at the front) although it says that check in is 12:00 - 23:00. We went round the back and found an elderly gentleman who helped us out, he said the owner was out, he wasn't... More

Shame about the busy noisy rd its on as this place is great value. A little dated but rooms spacious, spotless and super comfy. Had the best meal of our entire two week tour. Arrived to the smells of real home cooking which turned out to be slow cooked lamb delicious. Missed breakfast but saw others eating and it looked... More

My wife and I who run our own Guest House booked the Old Posting House on line as I had to visit Workington on business and were a little unsure what we would find - What a delightful choice it was! We had 3 night stay and the room we had was light airy and spotlessly clean - super en-suite... More

Staying for one night on our way to Scotland, we were unsure when we pulled up as it looked a little rough around the edges. The host, however, was very welcoming and showed us to our spotless room, with an enormous double bed. The fish and chips we opted for from the lunch menu was enormous but so nicely cooked... More

Four of us booked three nights whilst visiting relatives locally. Mick, the owner rang the night before to confirm arrival times. We were in opposite rooms, one double & a twin as booked. Very spacious, clean rooms. The beds were extremely comfortable, it was a real bonus to have comfortable chairs and plentiful tea/coffee/biscuits also. The en-suite was great and... More
