So recently this weekend a friend and I stayed here on the Sunday night after spending the Saturday night at the YHA Patterdale. Upon arriving in the hostel until our departure we received fantastic customer service, and the entire place was spotless in every way. The food was great too, good choice of Breakfast and the evening meal was good...

Perfunctory. Look it up in the dictionary and get the reception staff to do the same. Bunks? Comfortable. Room? Clean-ish. Noise? Almost all night long from the extractor fan in the toilet. Stayed on for ages after anyone used the loo. Shower? Free and excellent. Food? The BEST curry I've had in ages apparently cooked by an Indian chef. Superb....

YHA Grasmere is a winner based on location only but did not live upto expectations after staying in many other YHAs recently. The staff did not seem too bothered (except for the lady who offered to clean our room this morning), the hostel was, on the whole, pretty scruffy with damp on the bedroom walls, and the majority of the...

Staff have don't bother attitude, specially a guy called basil at reception Most of the staff try putting everything on the manager as they don't know anything. Our room was in very poor state and in a different building than the one promised over the booking at the time booking, upon asking they said in main building they only have...

For a penny-saving weekend in the weekend, this was the ideal base. There's nothing flash about the YH but it's in an absolutely gorgeous situation and you really cannot argue with the prices. It's a couple of minutes walk to the centre of Grasmere which is useful for eating out/ pubs/ public transport/ buying the little things you have forgotten....

Self catering accommodation smelt strongly of cat urine. Carpets seemed dirty and there was a fair bit of mould in shower room. Whilst I understand yha accommodation is basic I felt this was unacceptable for the hotel prices charged (£89 per night). Staff were however friendly and helpful. Felt the offer of "free wifi" for yha members misleading as you...

Stayed for three nights with my family. The staff were very friendly and helpful; the room and facilities were clear and comfy and the breakfast was tasty. A wonderful trip to lake district - would definitely return to this hostel and hopefully stay longer next time. Thank you for a lovely stay.

We stayed for just one night but would have liked to have stayed longer. Very friendly and flexible check in, comfortable room, friendly fellow hostellers, excellent breakfast. Lovely and beautifully positioned building only 5 minutes walk from the centre of Grasmere. We'll certainly return.

Stayed at couple of YHA. Like most, the staff are friendly, hardworking, helpful, and knowledgeable. Great spot and grounds. Only downside is the room is not quite clean, and the room has mouldy walls and curtains. We are two guests who are allergic to mould and dust so we didn't exactly have a good stay.

So maybe I expected too much! In my mid forties I had never stayed in a YHA place before; the only reason now, was that I was on an organised trip. If you don't care about sharing a room, if you don't expect an en-suite and if you want a limited (veg or not) choice of meals, then this is...
