We booked 5 nights for a winter break. On arrival the corridor leading to our room was freezing and our room itself was icy cold. We stay in Premier Inn's a lot when travelling and are very familiar with the brand and standards. The room temperature control did not work and reception staff advised all rooms were the same and heating was controlled centrally by recrption. The heating was hit and miss during our entire 5 days, either completely off or ramped up too high. We didn't get a choice. The fire alarm went off twice in the first 2 days - once for 15 minutes and the second for 3-5 minutes. It was alarming that no fire drill protocols were observed by the staff. No evacuation of the building, no roll call of guests, no explanation from staff outside as we all gathered, no staff member to direct us to an assembly point etc. The hot water went off completely overnight on 1 night from 5pm (apparently because of the fire alarm going off and the system unable to reset, informed a staff member.) Table Table adjoining the PI was pretty dreadful with lots of items of food and drink unavailable. The female breakfast staff member was brilliant however, and she did all she could with excellent service. The PI staff tried to ensure a pleasant stay, but were handicapped by the old building and lack of investment in it. I did appreciate their efforts, although all staff need urgent fire drill retraining. The Lake District needs Premier Inns. Whitbread need to invest in this one. It simply was nowhere near the high standards we have encountered in our previous numerous stays all over the UK. Hopefully the company will learn something from the guest reviews left.

The moment we walked in Greeted with smiles. Explanations of rooms as not had premier plus before. Anything we needed whether it be more sugar or anything no Problem . Steve was a gem at the counter he had a funny sense of humour and was always making me laugh. Sometimes people stand out at premier inns making your stay so much better.he always remembered previous conversations or requests I had made.bearing in mind lots of people coming and going all the time. I will always say this . Premier inns are the ones for us and anywhere where we want to stay and explore the premier inn is hunted out first . We will stay no where else . Thanks again premier you’ve done it again as always.

Despite external appearances, this is an older Premier Inn so rooms are the old design.Usual Premier Inn standards in most things, but a few things that weren't - Room cleanliness was poor, not all the lighting worked. In the bathroom, bad smells from the toliet, and a booking for two persons with one towel only. Aircon - not sure why, but sometimes Premier Inn aircon doesn't heat. And this was one of those occasions. Set the temparature wherever you like, but the icon in the display confirmed all it was doing was circulating the cold air, not warming it. Not great when its a 2 night stay.

I've stayed for 3 nights in an upgraded premium room which exceeded my expectations! Coffee machine, fridge with bottled water and free Kit Kats! The hotel is clean with helpful staff .. especially Chloe on the front desk! The restaurant (attached to the hotel) is very nice with great food The only negative is the limited parking (first come first served) which has an additional £5 charge per night payable by the machine outside
