Idyllic setting with a not too far a walk into Kendal. Lovely comfy room (superior double), great breakfast, added bonus of a pool and best of all, all of the staff were wonderful especially Helen who never seem to not be there. All in all, if you’re wanting a break away from it all at a reasonable price then look no further. 😀

Hotel's Favourite
Stayed here for my birthday and it was a lovely stay. We have been here before which is why I wanted to return for my birthday. The pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna are great. A good size for the size of the hotel and always been quiet when we have visited. The staff are friendly and informative. The room we staying in this time was mush smaller than last time but still nice and had everything we needed for the nights stay.

Celebrated with family, hubby's birthday, at this relaxing Hotel. Thanks to Helen and staff for going the extra mile. Room, clean and spacious, dinner was excellent. A member of the family has a dietary requirement, which was not a problem. We hope to return in the new year.

When trying to reach holiday accommodation in Windermere, my husband, our 18-month old daughter and I got stuck in the ‘major incident’ in the snow and had to turn back towards Kendal. Luckily we managed to secure one of the last rooms at the Stonecross Manor Hotel for the night, which we were SO grateful for as lots of people were unable to find avaliable rooms. On arrival, a lovely lady checked us in and we settled into a superior room which was spacious, comfortable and well appointed. They provided a cot for us which was lucky again as we didn’t have our travel cot with us. We ate dinner that night at the hotel restaurant and the food was very nice. We had to decide that night whether we would risk trying to get to Windermere the next day or stay put, and we decided to stay at the Manor for another night. The same lovely lady on reception managed to keep us in the same room to save repacking and unpacking our luggage which again we were extremely grateful for as we were still also paying for our Windermere accommodation. We made use of the swimming pool, jacuzzi and steam room which was nice. Breakfast was good with a nice selection of cooked and continental options. Everything was set for the hotel to get a 5 star review until upon check out we were charged for a glass of wine on the room tab which was incorrect. For one reason and another we didn’t realise this until later in the day, so we called up and were told the manager, Helen, would call us back. She never did so we stopped by the hotel on our way home and spoke to the manager then - and we were appalled at the complete lack of customer service. She was absolutely adamant that she’d served me a glass of Merlot, which neither of us drink, when it had actually only been milk for our daughter and 2 empty wine glasses to take up to our room. She would not believe us and it was only when my husband insisted she check the CCTV that she realised we were right - but there was astonishingly just a weak, exhaled apology for accusing us of lying and being totally wrong in her recollection. All over one glass of wine which became a matter of principle rather than cost. We would not have bothered going all the way back to the hotel if we weren’t certain the bill was wrong but were told "well, some people do try to claim free stuff". Helen stated that she didn't know us so we could have been one of these people but obviously felt she knew us enough to question our honesty and integrity, and prioritised going on the defense for her mistake over professional customer service. Helen also stated that a glass of milk was half a pint but when that then meant we'd been overcharged for the milk too, she soon back-tracked to "it's just under half a pint then" but would not hear anything further on it after the reluctant wine refund. We were left feeling like we were trying to get money back from a charity or out of someone's wages. That was all such a shame because the hotel saved us on that first night and was very lovely inside, especially with all the Christmas decorations. Helen was just shocking in the way she handled our query and we still can’t quite believe she treats customers that way. If this is allowed to occur, then all drinks and food should be paid in real-time to ensure accuracy. Before the bill incident we wouldn’t have hesitated to return to the hotel in future, but unfortunately it soured the experience for us and we would no longer recommend Stonecross Manor. We’ve still been fair and given 3 stars because all the other staff were very good and the hotel itself was great. After seeing the hotel's response to other negative reviews, I will premptively say that we can provide all receipts as proof of this incident should it be queried.

This was a lovely hotel the 2 ladies on reception were really nice and friendly and the both worked really hard. The room was nice the bedding was crisp and clean thus is what I always look for. The pool area was nice and it was lovely and quiet when we were there. The breakfast in the morning was delicious. I really liked this hotel and would definitely stay again.

I have never written a bad review before but after the experience with this hotel I feel I have to. I stayed here with my partner for 2 nights, our room was unbelievably dirty, the bed was filthy, the bathroom had clearly not been cleaned and the overall appearance of the room was unkempt. The towels were dirty and the bath didn’t drain because it obviously had who knows what blocking it. I spoke to reception on our first night who done nothing about it. We did stay the two nights but I wish we had left. I wrote a complaint trying to resolve this with the hotel instead of a public complaint however they ignored my emails. I have since chased my emails 6 times in the past 2 weeks and even phoned the hotel and they have yet to respond. My partner and I have stayed in many hotels and I can honestly say this is one of the dirtiest rooms we have slept in.

Thank you for taking the time for posting this review. However, whilst you stayed in your room for two nights, you did not mention to reception about the issues you had nor did you mention anything to me whilst you were here. I was working all weekend and checked you out on Sunday morning. Unfortunately, there is nothing I can do now to have made your stay more welcoming as you are at home. I just wished you had said something as this could have easily been rectified. I have since spoken to our housekeeping team to make sure that this does not happen again. I replied to your complaint through the booking agent and because you wanted a full refund and I refused to give it to you, you said that you would post awful reviews about the hotel. I hope you find a hotel more to your liking and thank you for bringing these issues to my attention. Regards Helen.

The hotel was in a great location for our travelling holiday, the room and bathroom were very clean warm and comfortable. The food was exceptional at this hotel and I would highly recommed people to stay here. It’s on the edge of the Lake District near Kendal.

Superb double ensuite room. Clean and well decorated with big screen TV. The breakfast was lovely, lots of choices and gluten free catered for. All the staff were cheerful and friendly. We enjoyed the lovely swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna both days we were there. It's small but adequate for adult needs. A bonus was the white fluffy towels provided for pool users. The location of a bus stop just along the road made getting around very easy , leaving the car in the car park.
