This pretends to be a 4 star hotel. A small group of us stayed overnight for a meeting the following day. We were asked to chose our breakfast on arrival ! I booked for dinner. I asked for a blue rump steak. It arrived medium rare and as dry as a desert. At no time did anyone enquire during our meal whether everything was all right. When clearing the plates I told the waiter it was rubbish. His response was to offer me free cheese and biscuits but left the steak on the bill. I then wanted an irish coffee. They were unable to make one as "we turn the coffee machine off at 8 and we don't have any cream anyway". My room was OK but the bathroom was TINY. Sitting on the toilet my knees were touching the sink AND the bath. Never again

So we are on the last day of the holiday at the riverside hotel and we are so gutted we have to leave. We’ve booked to come again in a few months. The service from the bar tenders where fantastic they made us feel very welcome and made sure we had a good time while dinning in the hotel bar. The man at reception couldn’t do enough for us and we were well looked after by the staff. We were amazed by how clean the rooms are in the riverside and anything extra we needed we got, the food was really nice the first night we stayed we had a steak it was cooked to perfection. We got a riverside room so having breakfast in the morning by the river was incredible. The pool was really relaxing we enjoyed some time in the hot tub which is situated next to the pool. Every time we came back from an adventure in the lakes we were welcomed with a warm and friendly attitude I feel like I have known the staff for a long time because they have made us feel very welcome. You can see these people have a passion for their job and love to help customers enjoy their time in Kendal. Nothing was ever too much trouble and we always received the service with a smile and a conversation about our day. I will be staying here again it was one of the most friendly hotels we’ve stayed at. Thank you to the riverside for giving us such a perfect holiday.

Had a one night stay and couldn't fault anything. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had 3 family rooms which were spotlessly clean. Enjoyed the pool although a little small sauna and steam good. We ate in the hotel restaurant and everyone enjoyed their meal. The bar prices were cheaper than a lot of other hotels. All in all a very pleasant stay.

We had a fabulous 3 night stay at the Riverside just after Christmas. Reception team were all very friendly and helped out with towels and lockers in the included spa area of the hotel (definitely recommend popping down during your stay -the jaccuzzi and steam room are a real treat after a day out walking in the lakes!) We ate dinner at the hotel one night and the food was really tasty and portion sizes were very generous. We stayed in the Kendal castle suite and it was huge! We had our own lounge with beautiful big windows overlooking the castle area on one side and the river on the other. Definitely recommend this hotel for friendly staff and location close to the centre of Kendal and for accessing walks in the Lake District.

My wife and I enjoyed a 4 night stay over Christmas here. We had expectations and we are delighted to report that they were exceeded. The room was well placed with a good river overview. It was spacious and clean. The first night's dinner service was a little chaotic but the meal was good and plentiful. The staff were friendly, willing and helpful as they were throughout the stay. Christmas lunch was truly excellent and the evening buffet was also first rate(with no turkey in sight!). Breakfasts were buffet and, again first rate - oh yes, please put milk jugs for tea on the table and salt and pepper. There was no problem in providing these items when requested. All meals were excellent. The only detrimental observations were that, due to Covid, the rooms were not serviced nor was there porterage. Service stations were well placed to provide waste disposal and clean linen. We would be pleased to return in happier times.
