In a world of access cards and keyless entries with a host of gadgetry, this place offers an old world charm with its big key rings and insistence that keys have to be left at the reception while going out.

Good hotel for Keswick and area. Recommendations depend on how you like to spend your time. Lots of great walks,- a classic is the Catbells Terrace walk or the hilltops themselves. Bus service from centre of town....Booths supermarket...is an excellent way to start or finish a walk. Buttermere is great for a visit and walk. Castlerigg Stone Circle is nearby but can get busy,- go early or, if there's a sunset, go late. View from Lattrigg, behind the hotel, driveable for 80% of the way, is excellent. Cinema is good. Spoiled for choice with pubs. Alternative to using bus or car ....use Keswick Launch BUT check which landing stages are open because of the recent drought and the low level of water in Derwentwater.
