My wife and I have just returned from a stay at the Herdwick with out Pug Teddy. The hosts Jo and Shaun were great and we were made to feel very welcome from the minute we arrived. The pub is in a great location for exploring the lakes with Ulswater only about 12 minutes drive. The room we had was...

Stopped off here for a meal after a walk in the Northern fells. Really friendly, welcoming pub with a roaring fire and fantastic food. Huge portions at a very reasonable price, all beautifully cooked. Good choices for vegetarians and meat eaters. Dogs and walkers are welcome and there are games, books and interesting pictures. Will definitely come again and highly...

We spent only one night, as we where away for a few walks in the lakes. The location was great, the Inn fantastic, brimming with character, like a step back in time. The food was Great, and to top it off, out dog Otto, and us, couldn't have been more warmly welcomed. The weather had been wet, and we could...

After a wet and windy day riding in the hills near Keswick we arrived at the inn and immediately felt the warmth of the log fire in the bar area. such a cosy, warm place. We had booked a twin room which was lovely and clean. Food and...

Where do I start?.... after a lovely walk at Airaforce waterfalls nearby we arrived at the inn, soggy dog and child in tow......such a lovely warm welcome from the young lad working there. Fires were burning bright and warm in the main room, plenty to explore, traditional bar games, family games, a village shop, lovely friendly staff that really rub...

We booked Christmas Day Lunch here as it was close to the cottage we rented for a few days and more importantly, it was dog friendly. It is, as mentioned in previous reviews 'quirky" and well worth a visit. Christmas lunch was amazing and we were well looked after by Jo, Shaun and the team. They even gave Myla the...

What can one say? From the wild packs of dogs that roam free, to the wildly over-the-top and kitschy olde worlde ornamentation, to the quirky sense of humour of Shaun the gruff and prickly owner, to the great food, it's a treat for anyone who likes those kinds of businesses that thrive despite (or because of) the clinical insanity of...

Stayed for one night in December 2016, cosy pub/restaurant which is extremely dog friendly. Food was reasonable and very good. Owner was welcoming. The rooms are cosy too. Definitely recommend a visit.
