We used this Hotel to break a trip North. The Hotel is in the centre of Penrith which a traditional market town at the junction of the A66/M6. Useful location for the lakes. Hotel has an old fashioned look and was decorated for Christmas. Bed rooms are comfortable and warm with excellent en suite bathroom. The full Cumberland Breakfast was...

Thanks for those lovely words. The George is a cracking location for access to the lakes, trains, motorway. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back in the near future. David Hobson

I have visited the hotel for a few events but never before stopped over. It is a traditional small town English hotel with quirky corridors to loose your way in, and odd shaped rooms. You feel like you are getting into your grandmother's bath and the cutlery has been here for generations. And it's all great because of this.... It's...

The George hotel is located in the town centre so no need to use your car once you are here. Parking was easy and directions good. Quickly registered at reception and our room was available ahead of time. Room 6 was totally extravagant and beautifully appointed with quality fittings. Very large room and en-suite. The breakfast was excellent with a...

Looking for a dog friendly hotel in the lakes on the internet we came across The George, it sounded ok and the cost was reasonable so we booked 3 nights. What a lovely hotel in a lovely town. Good size room and en suite with bath and shower, dog basket and bowl in the room. Despite temperatures dropping to freezing...

Arrived on a dark wet November evening and was glad of the wave of warmth and smell of polished wood that greeted me. The George has a slight feel of being past its best but that rather adds to its quirky charm really. Staff are friendly and efficient. Room was quite small but the bed was very comfy and the...

Been visiting the George every November for over 20 years. As always, the food was delicious, the staff very welcoming and the rooms extremely comfortable. Have already booked for next year. The minute you step in you feel relaxed. There is no lift but a chair lift is available if you need assistance and lots of friendly staff to help...

We stayed for 4 nights and had a very pleasant stay. The service was good and the staff pleasant and friendly. We only ate breakfast at the hotel but this was good. The hotel is very old but is warm and comfortable with pleasant public areas. Visitors should be aware that, because it is so old, there is no lift....

Stayed here on the way back from Scotland, the hotel had been beautifully decorated for Christmas and on a cold winter's night very warm and welcoming to walk into. Our room was small but had everything you could need, very clean and must have been decorated recently. There was plenty of milk/ tea/ coffee and toiletries in the room. The...

My husband I got a very good deal which included dinner, breakfast and delicious tea and scones for two. This beautiful and historic centrally located hotel was ready for Christmas and decorated nicely and very busy and jolly! Our room was quite small but luxurious and obviously recently updated. The hotel throughout is immaculate with everything in tip top order....
