We stayed in the lake house just after Easter. From the moment we arrived until we left it was just perfect. The setting is wonderful and the house is beautiful. Dinner was excellent, fabulous food and a chauffeur to bring you home! The spa was great, we did the jetty spa trail which was exceptional value and so relaxing! We'd...

We visited last month and a very rude member of staff made us change our plans. We were going to book a large party but decided to go elsewhere. The woman had no manners and must be losing the Hotel so much business!!!

The tasting menu ran to five course plus an amuse bouche and pre desert. Following a simple fruit gazpacho, we started with a plate of duck, a soft and rich port marinated liver, some mildly smoked breast and a small confit of leg. Next, two scallops (three would have been nice) with haddock fritters and saffron pickled carrots, tomato and...

We have visited the Gilpin three times now, the first occasion being our minimoon in November 2013. This really is the place to leave all your troubles at the door. The ambiance is incredibly relaxing and luxurious - you almost feel like you're wrapped in velvet on arrival and left to luxuriate until it's time to go home. The Gilpin...

We made a late booking to celebrate our wedding anniversary at the Gilpin. This is a relaxing and quirky boutique hotel, set in lovely grounds just 10 minutes drive from Bowness, with truly exceptional service and cuisine. Our stay was faultless from start (lovely warm welcome, including help with parking and luggage) to finish. All the bedrooms and public areas...

This was our second stay at the Gilpin Lake House. We stayed in Gertie this time and it was again a beautiful room with amazing views. We were excited to try the new menu with the new chef now in post, we weren't disappointed the food is excellent. A few new faces at both the lake house and the hotel...

After putting up with me for 20 years of marriage, I decided my wife really needed a little bit of luxury. Having visited the Gilpin for my father's 80th birthday celebrations we knew the quality was amazing. I booked two nights with a luxury dinner and I would have to say it far exceeded any expectations. Amazingly friendly staff and...

We visited Gilpin to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. Stayed in a garden suite with its own hot tub. Very secluded and peaceful with only the llamas and each other for company! Everywhere in the hotel and at the lake house is beautifully presented. Sumptuous fabrics, well chosen decorations and exquisite pieces of furniture. We have honestly never been anywhere...

Without any shadow of doubt a class act in every respect and agree with Sawday probably the best small hotel in England. The rooms all different are immaculate with extraordinary attention to detail and fine artwork as well as decor. The ambience is gentle refinement with wonderful setting a few miles east of Windermere. Beautiful lounge and bar area where...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
At the heart of Gilpin is a very passionate family and team, dedicated to creating lasting memories for their guests, who return time and again for celebrations and escapes. Warmth and friendliness are balanced with extraordinary service, exquisite décor and stunning culinary experiences. This five star hotel comprises two separate estates in the beautiful Lake District, with a luxury country house on each. At Gilpin Hotel all of the 25 bedrooms have lovely Lakeland views, most leading directly onto the gardens - including six Garden Suites with their own cedarwood hot tubs, and five fabulous detached Spa Lodges. The Spa Lodges were added in 2016, and are cedar-clad with king size beds, gorgeous bathrooms and a fabulously private en-suite spa each, with a convertible treatment area, steam room, rain maker shower, free standing oval stone bath, outdoor sauna and hydrotherapy hot tub surrounded by a walled garden. Add this to the mood lighting, fires, electric blinds and a state-of-the-art music system, and all of the senses are invigorated. Just a mile away at Gilpin Lake House, six gorgeous rooms share a fully staffed boutique hotel with a heated indoor swimming pool (for Lake House guests only), outdoor hot tubs and saunas, and exclusive access to 100 acres of grounds with a stunningly beautiful private lake. Our chauffeurs bring you to the hotel in the evening to dine. Dine in either the Michelin starred main restaurant, 'Hrishi', where Hrishikesh Desai combines great Lake District produce and classic methods to deliver unbelievable textures and flavours with just a twist of Asia, or in 'Gilpin Spice' a new informal restaurant transcending international boundaries, with an open kitchen focussing on dishes from the spice trail spanning the Indian sub-continent, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan and China. ... more   less
