This hotel is situated in a beautiful location, and first impressions were of a very attractive building. Its meet and greet service inside was perfect and exceeded other local hotels . This hotel appeared to be extremely well maintained with clean decorations, furniture, and floor coverings. We particularly noticed the up to date electrical and fire systems which contrasted favourably with...

There are many great high end places to stay in the Lakes, but this in my opinion the Gilpin is one of the best! We have just returned from a two night stay and we couldn't have expected more.... The staff are super friendly and very professional. You get all the little touches that you would expect from great hospitality...

I chose a stay at the Lakehouse for our first wedding anniversary, and was absolutely delighted with what we got. Expectations were really high given the price, and the occasion, but the Gilpin Lake House more than delivered. The privacy and service at the lakehouse was far beyond what I expected, and now seems like amazing value to virtually have...

We stayed at the Lake House for the first time this September. Having visited the Gilpin on a number of occasions in the past we wanted to try what looked really fantastic on the website. We are delighted to report that the Lake House was everything you could ask for - super room with wonderful views over Knipe Tarn, attentive...

Booked this after seeing it on TV chefs on trial. You can tell it is run by people who care and deserve their success! Wonderful stay in a garden suite, champagne in our room, a card from the staff and lots of genuine little touches and pleasant helpful staff made for the most wonderful stay. We won't be waiting for...

Just returned from a lovely night in one of Gilpin's garden suites to celebrate our anniversary and we were blown away with the luxury. From the moment we walked through the door the staff were lovely and took the time to give us a tour of the hotel whilst taking us to our room. Once in the room we were...

Popped in here on a Sunday for afternoon tea. Didn't realise we were too early but the staff were very accommodating and we had a meal and cream tea afterwards! The lounges are beautiful as was the room we dined in. The staff were all incredibly polite and helpful. I had a burger which was honestly the best burger I...

My wife and I stayed here for one night D B&B in Cleabarrow. A nice hotel, light and welcoming with a goodlounge and bar area. We arrived in the afternoon and took advantage of their relationship with the Old English spa in the centre of Bowness (5 mins drive). They serve dinner in three rooms and we chose the conservatory...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
At the heart of Gilpin is a very passionate family and team, dedicated to creating lasting memories for their guests, who return time and again for celebrations and escapes. Warmth and friendliness are balanced with extraordinary service, exquisite décor and stunning culinary experiences. This five star hotel comprises two separate estates in the beautiful Lake District, with a luxury country house on each. At Gilpin Hotel all of the 25 bedrooms have lovely Lakeland views, most leading directly onto the gardens - including six Garden Suites with their own cedarwood hot tubs, and five fabulous detached Spa Lodges. The Spa Lodges were added in 2016, and are cedar-clad with king size beds, gorgeous bathrooms and a fabulously private en-suite spa each, with a convertible treatment area, steam room, rain maker shower, free standing oval stone bath, outdoor sauna and hydrotherapy hot tub surrounded by a walled garden. Add this to the mood lighting, fires, electric blinds and a state-of-the-art music system, and all of the senses are invigorated. Just a mile away at Gilpin Lake House, six gorgeous rooms share a fully staffed boutique hotel with a heated indoor swimming pool (for Lake House guests only), outdoor hot tubs and saunas, and exclusive access to 100 acres of grounds with a stunningly beautiful private lake. Our chauffeurs bring you to the hotel in the evening to dine. Dine in either the Michelin starred main restaurant, 'Hrishi', where Hrishikesh Desai combines great Lake District produce and classic methods to deliver unbelievable textures and flavours with just a twist of Asia, or in 'Gilpin Spice' a new informal restaurant transcending international boundaries, with an open kitchen focussing on dishes from the spice trail spanning the Indian sub-continent, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan and China. ... more   less
