I recently had Afternoon Tea at Number 16. I was looking for somewhere quiet and little bit special, but at a price that would suit all my friends. The tea at 16 was just perfect. Lovely scones, sandwiches and little cakes, and for once there was one of everything for everyone, so no having to pass on a favourite. Highly... More

After travelling for over a month, Number 16 was the perfect way to spend my last couple of nights. Staff were so helpful from the time of booking, preparing for my visit and during my stay. Gorgeous furnishing, the most comfortable beds and lovely common shared areas. I had high tea with a friend and enjoyed all the hotel had... More

I used to stay at Number Sixteen for extended trips a few years ago and always enjoyed its homely atmosphere, so was pleased to have the excuse to stay again recently. It still quirky and decorated beautifully, the staff are lovely but maybe because I'm no longer a regular, I was given a room at the top at the house... More

Not only this place is gorgeous, but the staff is one of the politest and friendly ones. It is a Very Small boutique hotel, located 100 meters from South Kensington underground. Breakfast is served at their cuttest garden of the townhouses that were transformed into the hotel.

This afternoon tea was amazing! Excellent sandwiches, scones, and pastries. The place was very beautiful and service ''5 stars''. Possibility to have vegetarian sandwiches on demand. 20 pounds per person only! Good to know: the water is charged (5 pounds for the bottle).

I always make it a point to stay at Number Sixteen when I am in London. I like the location in South Kensington (less than a five minute walk to the underground). From the street it looks more like a private residence than a hotel and when you enter it feels like you are home. The staff is young and... More

Very friendly and personable staff, who couldn't do enough for me, including getting me a kettle so I could make tea in my room and making sure I had transport to and from the airport. Number Sixteen is in South Kensington/Chelsea - only two minutes walk to South Kensington tube and close to the museums. The room was lovely, finished... More

Perfect hotel in South Kensington. Nice room and bathroom, clean and beautiful! Great breakfast in a light room or - if the weather in London allows - in the nice little garden outside. All staff is very friendly and helpful! Go there!

Great small hotel. Perfect location, lovely garden, lovely staff, great decor, cosy rooms. I still like Durrants for a little bit of old England, but this might now be my co-favourite in London. This hotel is more contemporary and more feminine. The smoked salmon at breakfast very good too btw as is the coffee.

Staying in South Kensington

Neighbourhood Profile
South Kensington
With its ivied mews, row upon row of Poppins-esque white washed mansions, and placid garden squares, it's easy to see the charms of South Kensington. And with superb access to Hyde Park, Holland Park and Kensington Gardens, as well as the largely child-friendly and mostly free Museum Quarter (not to mention more major attractions like Royal Albert Hall) such charms are easy to make the most of. As welcoming and cosmopolitan as it is reserved and residential, South Kensington is always a hit with visitors.

Number Sixteen forms part of a row of gleaming white stucco mid Victorian townhouses. It originally opened in the 1980’s and instantly became popular with discerning travellers looking for an alternative to the larger Park Lane hotels. Now several years on, the hotel has a Firmdale point of view. Kit Kemp redesigned the hotel in her signature, fresh modern English style. ... more   less
