This is a bizarre hotel. It wants to be modern and trendy with its location (near Borough Market), its slick check-in serviced by slim laptops and tablets and the ostentatious display of wines behind you as you check in. But all this flattery is only to deceive as the rooms are not generous, the TV dominating the space and the...

This was a comfortable, quiet hotel. The room was fairly clean, although the carpet was stained. Facilities were good, and there was a kettle and a Nespresso machine. Checkin was efficient, but the desk staff had little information about the local area (he was a trainee from Italy, and had only been in London a short time). I'd return here.

Located in Southwark, really handy for Tate Modern, St Paul's and loads of other attractions. Hotel itself is lovely, very contemporary reception, bar and restaurant area, with rooms to match. Service is excellent, right from the reception experience, where they come to greet you, aided by a tablet to check you in. I have stayed in this hotel for business...

Staying in Southwark

Neighbourhood Profile
Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
