I must admit that after I had booked a room at St David's Hotels, I then read some of the other reviews on this site and I was quite alarmed and not a little concerned at what I might find. Check in was hassle free and the staff are very polite and helpful. Firstly, there is no lift and there are six floors in total including the basement. My room was on the 4th Floor (The attic) which I was warned about. I didn't realise how out of condition I am until I had climbed all those stairs to my room. The last two flights of stairs are very narrow and very steep. The room was compact, but the bed was very comfortable and was actually one of the most comfortable beds I have slept in away from home for some time. The Room was clean and the ensuite shower room was quite adequate for one night. My only comments on the ensuite facilities were a lack of door - I realise that there was a lack of space, but surely they could have had a sliding door. A hospitality tray so I could make a cup of tea would have been nice, but I suppose you shouldn't expect everything with a budget hotel. Being on the 4th Floor, I wasn't disturbed by any outside noise or Underground train noise as some people on this site have commented on. However, the internal walls are wafer thin and there is no sound proofing. So you hear every noise on your floor - people opening other bedroom doors and talking. The hotel is situated within a very short distance of Paddington Station and is only a short walk from Hyde Park and Lancaster Gate Underground Station. There are plenty of Restaurants and places to eat within a short distance.

The staff is extremely rude, and unhelpful at best. I have back problems so I can't carry heavy items. When I requested assistance to bring my 26kg suitcase down the 4 stories of narrow stairs I was laughed at and only got "You're young, do it yourself!" as an answer. The cleaning lady kept forgetting the soap, and the front guy harassed me to upgrade room. I've stayed in dozens of hotels/hostels/inns and it's the first time ever that I witness the staff ridiculing their patron - to be clear this is UNACCEPTABLE. Other than that, WiFi was so slow I had to tether my laptop to my phone all the time, the shower was ridiculously tiny, stairs super so narrow you have to wait until the next person comes up/down, the rooms are poorly noise-isolated, and you can constantly hear the trains coming and going.

We stayed at the St. David’s for six nights. Front counter staff were polite and helpful. The room was small but clean. We had our own bathroom. Fourth floor, no lift and very narrow hallway and stairs. It’s plain to see why the walls are all scuffed. We were concerned about fire safety and escape routes. Firedoors were not closed. Did not see smoke detectors in each hallway. Biggest pluses were the location and the breakfast ladies (they also do the room cleaning). Thank you Miranda and the other ladies for being thoughtful and cheerful with the delivery of a day after day same minimum menu. The ladies run a tight ship getting everyone in and out very quickly. To the owners... would it not be possible to have two or three menus you rotate through? Could you have some fresh fruit? Bananas, oranges, apples? The room...owners... our toilet paper roll was set on the ledge behind the toilet. Hard to reach from sitting position. Maybe a floor stand for toilet paper would work? Most of the time it was buried under towels as there was no place to keep clean towels or the hand towel in use. Also, could there be just one face cloth? Not sure why the heater in the bathroom was on so much. It was too hot to touch. No control to turn it off. New pillows would be a suggestion. I understand that it must be extremely difficult to get new mattresses up to the fourth floor rooms so will leave no comment about that. A small kettle or coffee pot in the room would be such a treat instead of having to purchase from a machine in the lobby after a long day of sightseeing. Just some little conveniences and thoughtful touches would improve a travellers stay with you. Yes it’s noisy but after a day or so you get used to it. London is noisy. Again, this location is perfect. Right by Paddington station, lots of restaurants and shopping. Lovely to walk the neighbourhood.

My friend and I stayed here for one night , the room was clean as was the bathroom, the beds were very comfortable and the staff were helpful and polite. We had a full English breakfast that was tasty, served with fresh juice, coffee and toast. Easy access to Paddington station and plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance. I would stay here again despite there being no lift . I do have issues with stairs however we had one flight to our room which I managed.

I only needed a single room for one night and the cost was very good. The location is handy for Paddington station and there are plenty of places to eat and drink nearby. Check in was easy and the staff very helpful. The stairs are narrow and steep and no lift is installed so if mobility is a problem this isn't for you. The room was booked by another member of our party and had a shared bathroom. I wouldn't have made that choice myself but went ahead. The room was small, as expected, and the bed was large enough and comfortable. Expect some vibration and noise from the station. It was not so bad on the 3rd floor but much worse on the ground floor. The bathrooms are a joke. The shower cubicles are large enough but getting in and out if you're over ten stone is very difficult. This applied to the two shared bathrooms and the one in the twin room that my colleagues had. In order to use the shower it is required that you undress in a tiny area between the toilet and the door. There was nowhere to hang the towel or clothing. This is a major problem when it comes to getting dried. Walking along the corridor and up two flights of stairs with just a towel wrapped around isn't really on. There is the obvious problem of opening the door straight on to the corridor. This wasn't such a problem in the twin room as it's more private. The shower problems are the only reason why I wouldn't use this hotel in future. The breakfast was excellent. There was a choice of cereals and full-English or continental breakfast which was well presented and delicious. Check out was easy. I would recommend but it's a shame about the showering facilities .
