This was a first for us - a student hostel. We found LSE Carr-Saunders Hall to be an excellent place to stay in London. It was a quick walk to Tottenham Court Rd and we could easily walk to Soho and Leicester Square. The nearest Underground was also close - Warren Street and there were bus stops on Tottenham Sq Road. We were there when the weather was very hot and our bedroom was small, the bed being very small, not really suitable for two adults. Not much air came through the windows. Thanks to Jan for arranging a fan for us and for all the other things he did to help us - directions etc. The breakfast was really good, everything you could wish for, fruit, cereals, full english, croissants, waffles, toast, tea or coffee and everything else that went with breakfast. The breakfast staff were very good and everything was fresh and hot. We went away from London and came back for a further three days - we then had a twin-bed room, a much better size and was also cooler. The price was excellent. We didn't really like the idea of the shared showers and toilets but as they were kept clean and nobody seemed too worried about other people we soon got the hang of it. The large lounge was excellent, we had a couple of drinks there with our family and also waited there until time to go to the airport. They also held our baggage from 10.30 check out time until we came back to collect them at 4pm. Many thanks to Jan and the other office staff who we found friendly and very helpful.

University halls, like Carr-Saunders, are useful for low cost accommodation during student vacation periods. Carr-Saunders is well located, just a few minutes walk West of the Tottenham Court Road on a reasonably quiet street. Staff were friendly, the room was basic yet clean. One warning: the shared shower rooms/toilets were unisex, and lacked a place to keep your clothes dry away from the shower in the cubicles, but there was plenty of hot water. There's also a shared kitchen, with a fridge, freezer, microwave, etc (but little by way of cutlery!) Wifi worked fine. There's no TV or radio in the rooms.

Carr-Saunders is, in many ways, a dreamy place to stay and great value. I paid £40 for B&B in an advance deal. My room was freshly decorated, spotless and comfortable. I had a great night's sleep. The big negative for me was that showers are in a shared block and I couldn't squeeze a drop of hot water from them. Luckily, there's a handbasin in the room, so it's possible to use that to wash. Another irritant was that, although the wifi is free, you have to give Sky your life history to be able to use it. I didn't bother. I would still go back in a heartbeat. The location is wonderful, in the upscale and buzzy Fitzrovia neighbourhood. It feels very safe. I very much enjoyed the buffet breakfast with good coffee and flaky pastries, eaten on a terrace overlooking the Post Office Tower. It's possible to have a full English and much more, but be aware that service starts at 8am, so there's not much time before beginning work. If you have time to dawdle on the terrace on a sunny day, though, it's a lovely start to the day.

Found this place when searching for a good/cheap place to stop for one night. It's not easy to get a room as it's a favourite venue, and, it can get expensive to book. Anyway, the rooms are grand, the shared bog/shower are clean/smart as are the bedroom. Breakfast was cooked and tasty. It is a fantastic location and I'd definitely be back.

Wonderful stay as always at Carr-Saunders. This is a great location for central London, awesome facilities and a lovely breakfast included. Remember this is shared facilities so, out of hours the organisation cannot be held responsible for the actions of other guest. They do their best and the cleaners are great during the day. Will definitely book again, thank you and Merry Christmas

Nice location but unfortunately a rude and unpleasant staff. Had a problem with the booking and while it got solved , it was not in a nice way and I felt like they blamed me and not the system. If you can stay somewhere else I advice you to do it, there are a lot of great places in London.

Easy to find in a good location. Breakfast was good and set me up for the day. Room was clean, had a sink in the room so just had to go down the hall for the toilet. There was a communal kitchen area so I could make coffee to drink in my room. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Stayed in a twin room with my 12 year old daughter. The receptionists were polite and helpful. We were able to leave our baggage in a locked room as we had arrived in London before check in time, and also after we had checked out. Room was extremely clean and smelt slightly of disinfectant. Beds were comfortable. We were on the first floor and there was quite a bit of noise from the bar opposite on Saturday night but we were so tired after a day of walking around London that it didn't stop us from sleeping. In the morning it was very quiet. Huge buffet breakfast the next morning - you can go up and help yourselves as many times as you like. Canteen is on the top floor with big windows and a glazed door overlooking a balcony with views of the BT tower. When we visited in September, the door to the balcony was open so I imagine if it was warm you could take breakfast on the balcony. Great location - can walk from the West End in about 15 minutes. It's mostly along well populated routes too (Charing Cross Road & Tottenham Court Road) so even late at night, it didn't feel unsafe.
