Zedwell Underground Tottenham Court Road hotel enjoys a central location that many guests appreciate, with easy access to attractions and transit. However, some travelers have expressed dissatisfaction with the service, citing a chaotic check-in experience and inadequate service recovery.
The hotel's rooms, described as minimalist and cozy by visitors, are often critiqued for being small and noisy, with complaints about additional fees for basic services like luggage storage diminishing its value. While the atmosphere is deemed relaxing by some, the lack of amenities and furnishings has not gone unnoticed.

Detailed Reviews
I liked the concept of this hotel: a quiet "cocoon" for a good night's sleep. It's in a really great location in central London, with lots of things in easy walking distance and the tube station down the road is served by the Northern, Central and Elizabeth Line. I checked in on September 21st and stayed for 10 nights.
What's not great about this hotel is the bed, which left my back aching. The pillows are rock hard and get hot, as does the mattress. (I ended up buying pillows at Primark and had no trouble falling asleep from then on.) Also, I hated the wetroom shower with the waterfall showerhead. There was no way to keep water from getting everywhere no matter how I directed the showerhead or how little I tried to move. If you expect anything to dry out, you'll need to leave the air conditioning on all day. I realize that beds and shower types are a personal preference, so make of that what you will. There's also nowhere to store anything at all: the only horizontal surfaces in the room are the toilet lid and the bed. There are 2 small hooks in the bathroom and another 2 hooks in the room. It's just not adequate if you're staying beyond a couple of days.
Here's what's great about the hotel: the staff. The aircon in the room I originally checked into didn't work, and they moved me into another room. They were always friendly and responsive when I needed help, such as getting my laundry picked up and dropped off when I was out of the hotel. Housekeeping is consistent and good. This hotel was also available at a great cost during my stay (about £110 per night).
I'd recommend this hotel if you can moderate your expectations and you're really only expecting to be in your room to sleep and to bathe.

The location is excellent, just a short walk from Tottenham Court Road tube, we arrived early due to a very early Ryanair flight and went straight to the hotel to store our baggage until check out.
I was shocked to be told that there was a £10 storage fee per bag, I didn't see much choice but to pay it as otherwise we'd have been hauling our luggage around London for 5 hours. I've stayed in hotels all over the world and this is the only time I've been charged for storage.
We can back for check in and found our room on the -5 floor. The room was very spartan, no TV, no wardrobe, just two hangers on the wall.
The room did seem clean until I pulled out the bed to retrieve something that fell down the side, the floor under the bed hadn't been cleaned in a long time!
The bed itself was comfortable, others have commented on train noises early in the morning - you can hear them but it wasn't loud enough to impact my sleep.
The shower was pretty weak but passable and there was sufficient toiletries and towels and the staff were nice.
Overall for the price it was pretty average.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
The beds are comfy, lovely rooms, great location but charging £10 for a hairdryer is INSANE. Last time I stayed here was a work trip and I had to leave my bag as I was too early to check in and couldn't take it to my work event in the evening. If I had more time before work I would have found luggage storage elsewhere in London because there are cheaper ones around that I've used before. So if you need to leave your bag before or after checking in/out find elsewhere to pay to leave it because £10 is a rip off for luggage storage even if it wasn't a hotel.
They also have self-service tea and coffee but for some reason you can only access it between 7am - 10pm when the filtered water tap is there all the time and they just put the cups / tea bags etc in the drawers underneath.
The rooms are genuinely lovely and the wifi is amazing. But it's a shame about the extra charges for things that are commonly free in hotels so just be wary of that.

So the concept is fairly clear what these guys are trying to achieve in the sense that they aim the hotel at people who are just wanting a room to stay and will predominately spend most of their time exploring London or being on a night out etc. Which in theory is a great idea. Unfortunately the hotel fails massively to deliver on this concept. So the general idea is they give you a great bed, and amazing shower in a sound proof room so you can have a great night's sleep. The bed was great and very comfortable so no complaints there, we asked for more pillows which were promptly delivered and equally as comfortable. Two thumbs up. The shower is well, meh, certainly not amazing and well on par with a rain shower that you would find at home. The soundproofing is where it really starts to fall down and you smell a bit of a rat with the fact they provide you with ear plugs? Why so if the room is sound proofed? Well after being in the rooms for about 5 minutes its clear, there is a constant background soundtrack of the underground! Late into the night and early in the morning starts the constant boom of the underground which goes on all day.
But for me where the rooms really fail to deliver is the fact that there is literally a bed, toilet, small sink and shower in the room and nothing else. Oh two obligatory hooks on the wall. No shelf, no hanging rail nothing. There is literally a space at the bottom of the bed which would be perfect for a hanging rail and a small shelf next to the mirror would improve the rooms no end. Irons are available, to the tune of £10 (according to their website), but I never asked for one.
At £165 a night I really wouldn't be expecting to live out of my bag on the floor, but unfortunately that exactly what this experience is. Good bed yes, great showing, average, overall experience poor!
Check in was terrible, it's a self service check in but there were a whole host of guests just milling around frustrated with the fact that there were only two or three terminals to check in. Needs improving, especially at peak time. The staff were helpful and friendly so no issues there and the location is great which is the reason it's getting two stars on not one.
Would we stay here again, unfortunately from our group it was a resounding no. I travel a lot with work and also would not recommend it for work purposes either.
Finally, a little extra thought by providing a couple of extra facilities i.e. hanging rail and shelf would go a long way to improving this property. There is a very fine line between minimalistic and delivering the room for as cheap as possible and unfortunately it feels like its falling into the latter category!

I've made the mistake of booking this hotel without looking at the reviews first, a lot of my experiences match the other negative reviews here. I'm writing this hoping people won't make the same mistake.
Upon arrival we were checked into an absolutely filthy room. The floor was covered in stains as if someone walked all over it in muddy shoes. There were more stains around light switches and on the mirror. The mattress was full of human hair and dust. We went immediately to the reception to report this and we were promised someone would come and mop up the floor. We decided to go sightseeing and after we came back the room was still not cleaned, so we reported it again. We were promised that someone would come ASAP. To our surprise we were ignored again. Defeated, the next morning I finally complained for the 3rd time.
Now apart from the dirty floor more issues came up, the air conditioning wasn't functioning properly throughout the night and couldn't keep up with the temperature setting, so the air was stuffy. There was also no warm water in the shower, so we had to take a cold one. Finally, they sent the cleaning stuff to our room, but their "cleaning" boiled down to exchanging our towels and emptying the bin. The stains on the floor were left untouched. We literally went out shopping for flip flops just to avoid walking barefoot on our room's floor, which is hardly cosy as they like to advertise on their web page.
The staff not only completely ignored our problems and didn't remedy the situation, they also didn't offer any compensation whatsoever for the trouble caused. We decided to reach out to our provider through which we've booked this hotel, but we were told the hotel management didn't respond to their calls and emails.
I'm sure some manager will respond to this review trying to assure everyone that they care about their guests, but ignoring us despite so many complaints tells me it's just empty words. I've never stayed at a less hospitable hotel.
Apart from the above issues, we booked a double bed and it's so tiny it barely fits two adults. There's no furniture or hangers in the room at all. They also charge ridiculous amounts for renting out the hair-dryer or an iron. The lack of windows and interior design makes the room feel like a prison cell or janitor's closet.
The only good thing about this hotel is its location, but it's definitely not worth the nerve-wracking service.

During check-in, I encountered a very unpleasant situation regarding the cleanliness of the rooms. In the first room I was given, the floor was extremely dirty, with rubbish and stains everywhere, including the room and bathroom. We returned to the reception, where the staff member assigned us a room next door. Unfortunately, we had to return to the reception again because that room had a terrible stench from the toilet. Initially, we were told that the cleaning service would spray something, but I wasn't satisfied because it would only be a temporary solution. Fortunately, we were then given a larger room, but it still had many stains on the floor, which I had to accept because they couldn't be removed. Overall, there was just a bed in the room, and I noticed a lot of dust everywhere. I would suggest placing a rug to cover the disgusting stains, adding a small table for convenience, and providing flip flops because walking barefoot on the floor was unpleasant.
Additionally, in the hallway, there were wilted flowers and scattered pieces of paper, adding to the untidy atmosphere.
However, the receptionist, a young man, apologized for the entire situation and behaved professionally. He also offered a discount on breakfast, unfortunately, we did not receive it as the restaurant staff were unaware of it.

Better room cleaning (they only changed the towels during a 5 night stay, no cleaning at all)
Even on arrival i could see hairs from guests before me in bathroom and bed.
No brush for cleaning the toilet is available in the room and cleaning service wont clean it also.
Fire alarm went on twice during the stay.
Hot warer was not working for several hours.
Light is very dark even on brightest setting. It is very loud due to other guests, the metro and the water system. No TV available. No Safe available. Not even some thing where you can put your shoes or your bag. Late checkout and leaving the bag during the day after leave is extra cost. No mini bar, no bar or drinks at the recepetion (except with free tee)

When we booked the underground zedwell we understood what we were getting at the start. This is a hotel that you are booking just to lay down your head and sleep, when you wake up you leave.
People who expect to receive the comforts of a 4 or 5 star hotel when you are paying almost prices comparative to a hostel are completely detached from reality.
We had a great experience, the oddness of being underground was quickly overcome and the location was simply unbeatable. Steps away from Tottenham Court Road and the west end it made our theatre weekend so much easier and since we were out from almost 9am to 11pm each night the hotel did exactly what we expected it to!
The staff were extremely courteous and kind. We were very pleased overall particularly with the price!

The marketing says I will get the best nights sleep… we believed that, assuming that either the designer or the management had actually spent a night in one of the rooms.
The only thing that saved a zero rating is, a) you cannot give zero ratings and b) the nights of Xmas eve and Xmas day itself the tube trains were not running.
The Tottenham Court Road branch is on floors -4 and -5… clearly almost adjacent to the following train lines… North and south Northern line, east and west Central line and east and west Elizabeth line. So trains run past the rooms about every 2 minutes until way past midnight starting at ~6am, so a restful nights sleep is NOT what you can guarantee in this hotel… it is also so completely minimal that you don’t even feel cosseted with comforts of home… the rooms are so small with no space for luggage, clothes &c. that you have to repack every morning just so there is space to leave the room. We booked a double room and arrived on the 23rd Dec to find one towel. We asked to switch room as the trains were so loud… but the new one was just as loud. Interestingly, the new room had two towels AND two sets of ear plugs. Ear plugs were useless in stopping the noise of the trains. I will agree that you do not hear much noise from neighbouring rooms, this is despite the toilets which are more like aircraft toilets, that, on pressing the flush, suck the waste out with such force and then clamp shut again with such a force that I wouldn’t be surprised if train passengers got a fright if someone pushed the flush at the wrong time.
They charge to hold your bags on check out (10am!), or if you have the audacity to turn up before normal check in of 3pm, they charge for hairdryers, I’m surprised they didn’t charge for the support at check in. Check in is supposed to be automatic but despite us availing of the auto check in, we, along with every person arriving while I was sitting at reception required support.
It ranks as the most stressful hotel stay in London, hands down.
I am struggling to say positive things, now, as I sit in reception waiting to leave, the air-‘freshener’ is assaulting my nostrils and I am desperate to smell the London Smog once again. I will not be back and I can only offer the above in case you too are swayed by the marketing and cheap basic price. There is a Premier Inn just around the corner. I have never stayed there, but would recommend it.

I am just back from my visit to London to which was an absolutely fantastic stay, apart from one part which was the hotel. Arrived at the hotel and checked in got taken to our room which was roasting sitting at 21/22 degrees. I understand I booked a hotel knowing there was no window but I also booked this hotel with the understanding there was AC to which ours was broke. 4 times I mentioned to staff that the AC in our room was broke. I was then made to feel stupid as if I couldn’t work the AC our room the next morning was sitting at 24 degrees. We were given a fan to cool the room down, and as I said the next morning with the fan blowing all night (which was noisy interrupting our nights sleep) our room was still 24 degrees. I then went to reception the next morning to complain once again about the heat and I was told we would be moved room. We were then left to sit in reception for 25 minutes while we waited to see what was happening the lady came back to say that she had found us. A room and she then took us to our previous room which she then followed with “how long will you need to pack your stuff I need to get the room cleaned” that then put me and my partner under pressure for something that was not our fault. We got into our new room and we were greeted with the smell of drains… which was unbearable for the next 3 days. Along with the smell of the drains we also had very noisy drains which interrupted our nights sleep once again and also a duvet cover in the bed that doesn't fit the duvet so every time I moved in my sleep I got a nice feeling of a rough duvet. For the extortionate price I paid for this hotel I am honestly disgusted with our stay!!!! I then complained on the way out at the hotel and the man said “you should have let us know and we would have swapped you room” I did not pay all this money to be passed about hotel rooms you too they found one of standard. I got £5 of keeping my bags in storage and to be honest I paid £356 for this trip, £5 off keeping my bags in storage is an absolute disgrace!!!
