We stayed here for 3 nights over a weekend in August while in London to see a show. I stay away a lot for work (or did pre covid) and personally and this is without doubt one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in in the UK, if not the best. By no means the most expensive either. The rooms are quiet, full blackout blinds with very comfy beds- I had the best night’s sleep in years over this last weekend at this hotel. The bar is good, fairly quiet, we didn’t make it to the hidden garden bar but will next time, and the grill restaurant is more than fine. Will also be trying the rooftop fine dining restaurant next time.

Location wise it’s fairly quiet leisure wise as an immediate area, but amazing restaurants such as Sushi Samba are very walkable and we rarely even used the tube station round the corner all weekend.

Staff can’t do enough, the tech in the rooms is great too with everything being touch button controlled. It just a super relaxing, very well done hotel with lots of high end touches (bit of an odd comment but it smells incredible, and the toiletries are fantastic. To the point I’ve been trying to buy them and the candles that make the lobby smell unreal online since I got home and can’t find them for sale anywhere!). It’s in no way pretentious as some other hotels can be, it’s very chilled and comfortable as an atmosphere.

Only super tiny quibble is the ‘book direct’ benefits could be a little clearer as most of the time you book direct you seem to get a discounted rate so they don’t all apply, but don’t let that put you off it’s a simply superb hotel and any book direct benefits you get are just a bonus.

Will definitely be back, we can’t recommend it enough. Oh and if you are choosing rooms- the Wilson is definitely worth it for the bathroom alone.

Booked the hotel for a night away and to get away from my own 4 walls. The hotel is lovely and there are some different ways to check in. They have an app where you can send your details before you get there and it meant that when I checked in I didn’t have to stay long in the lobby. A dashing guy took my temperature as I came in, which is reassuring to see and the staff are wearing some cool colour masks which are in keeping with the hotel and the designs around the place.

The rooms are big and have a lot of technology, the app has all the information you need but they also have it on the TV in the room maybe for people who don’t have a phone or don’t like apps. They also send you a text message after check in to make sure everything is ok and if you need anything. It’s a nice touch and I used it pre book a taxi.
You have to book to go anywhere in the hotel, I had drinks in the bar but because the table was booked by text I just turned up and they were ready for me. The service is a little slower but I guess that’s because of the amount of staff you can have in one place with keeping distance. The restaurant was busy but I didn’t eat there, but I saw a lot of younger people without masks in the hotel, but the staff always asked them to put it back on. Not sure why they have to ask people we should all be used to this by now!

Checkout was quick and smooth, the app said I could just leave and a bill would be sent to me but I went to reception. The girl was nice, Italian I think. You cant leave bags at the hotel but there is a safe storage in Liverpool street station so easy to drop your bags and jump on the metro for the day. Will come back for sure as the rooms are nice and they seem to have found ways to still be a hotel with Covid in place. Good luck South Place

South Place Hotel was one of the nicest hotels we’ve ever stayed at. My husband & I travel a lot & so often stay at leading 5* hotels worldwide. The service we received at South Place Hotel was hands down some of the best we’ve ever received & started from the very second we walked in. All of the staff were friendly & attentive, we found the customer service at South Place Hotel really was second to none.

We stayed in one of the King rooms, the room was very spacious & our king size bed was also incredibly comfortable, with very cozy pillows & a comfy duvet, so we slept really well. Being in the City of London, the street lights can be quite bright, the electric black out blinds were amazing & blocked out all of the light while we slept. There are 2 wall mounted controls for the lights & blinds either side of the bed. Our room & the rest of the hotel were incredibly clean. The bathrooms are spacious & well designed, all towels were very soft & fluffy, the bath was huge & the shower was great quality. The room was also very quiet, we were on the 4th floor overlooking the street & didn’t hear any noise from outside at all. Checkout is via the app, which makes things very easy.

The location is also great, Moorgate in the City of London is surrounded by so much history, if you like to explore, as we do. Moorgate is a nice place to stroll around & the streets are quite quiet on the weekend, so we found that was the perfect time to explore away from the busy crowds.

We had an absolutely perfect stay & only have positive things to say, we would throughly recommend South Place hotel! We had such a wonderful time & are looking forward to staying here again in future.

Stayed here 2 nights. The hotel has a lively bar scene on a Friday and the Michelin starred restaurant (angler) was absolutely excellent. The hotel room was comfortable and spacious but the pillows are far too soft even for somebody that prefers soft to firm. The TV had a mind of its own and was awkwardly placed. The bathrooms are roomy and lux but wearing slightly and there was a very strong stench I can only describe as the changing rooms at a lido. We had a heavy water leak from the bathroom ceiling which was concerning but didn’t affect our stay as it occurred as were packing for check out. The room all throughout the weekend was noisy because of its location but on a plus, they are dog friendly and provide doggy packs to guests. All the staff were friendly and professional and there was a good selection of breakfast options which were very tasty.

Dear JWexplorer, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review on your recent stay with us. I am delighted to hear how much you enjoyed the bar and especially the Michelin starred experience. I am also pleased to read how much you appreciated our friendly staff and the variety of breakfast options. I am sorry to hear you found the pillows to be too soft, we do have a pillow menu with a vast choice for everyone’s preference. I also apologise for the issues you had with the TV and the leak in your bathroom. We have addressed the issues to the maintenance team and we reassure you that this doesn’t represent the standard of our services at South Place Hotel. We do hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back soon and please feel to contact me directly for your next stay. Best wishes, Susanne

We recently had a 2 night stay at South Place hotel to celebrate our engagement, we stayed in room 409. The hotel is in a great location, the staff were all incredibly friendly and the hotel was clean.

The hotel room was lovely and on first look, was very clean however, for a 5 star you would expect a higher standard of maintenance.

In the bathroom above the shower head, the paint work is all raised and flaking. The shower head has green patches from limescale. The bathroom door slides but when it gets past the half way point it is very difficult to close. Once closed there is a gap down the bottom where it does not line up properly, the frame work is also coming away from the wall so again, there is a gap. The telly on the wall was wonky and the panel it was on was coming away from the wall (possibly why it was wonky). The automatic blind is a great feature however when it starts to go up it made quite a loud, high pitched screeching noise. We then discovered part of the wall at the bottom of the window was all falling off.

Unfortunately the DAB radio was not working, everytime I tried to put the radio on it kept saying ‘battery low’ (strange considering it was connected to a mains plug)…

The dyson hair dryer was an added bonus however had again, not been looked after. Dyson hair dryers show a warning light when the filter needs cleaning, if this filter is not cleaned the hair dryer will not work, which is what happened to us. Every dyson hair dryer comes with a small cleaning brush so perhaps these could be left in the room so the guests can clean them if the staff are not able to do so.

Although the room looked clean, we noticed a piece of popcorn in front of the vent on the floor, which does call into question the actual cleanliness of the rooms; slightly worrying given the current circumstances. Considering we didn’t have any popcorn, there’s no telling how long it had been sitting there.

These niggles did not ruin our stay but did disappoint us considering the hotels rating. I write this review to give management an insight into the standard of some of the rooms as it is highly likely they may not be aware of the issues.

One of the best hotels I have had the pleasure of visiting. I booked for a relaxing staycation and it was just what was needed.
All of the staff were so friendly and helpful and everything felt really safe, with temperature checks and everyone wearing masks throughout the hotel.

My room was very spacious and immaculate, the design was great and I loved the huge mirror and mood lighting, the amenities are also top quality with Bang and Olufsen TV and a Dyson hairdryer.

The bathroom was very clean and the extra deep bath with mood lighting was really special and set this hotel apart from others I have been to. I really loved the wall panel next to the bed which allowed you to control the lighting and electric blinds from the comfort of your bed.

The hotel itself is beautiful with lots of art and well designed spaces to relax and enjoy. I ordered room service which was prompt and delicious.

Thank you for an amazing stay South Place, I will be back soon.

We stayed at South Place this weekend for a wedding, which was really beautiful! The wedding team I encountered on the day were all really lovely too. We were travelling with our 6 month old and prior to our visit I wasn't sure how baby friendly the hotel might be. I asked for an early check-in the day before but was told to ask on the day - I did, and luckily our room was ready nearly 2 hours early, which was amazing as we were worried about being in a rush for the wedding / feeding and changing a baby etc! And we were really pleased with our room - we booked a King, and it was a decent size for a London hotel (and the rate). The cot and baby blankets were of good quality, there was a super cute Jellycat toy for our little one and the bathroom even stocked baby bath products. The black out blinds were also amazing. We accidentally left the toy in the room and the hotel kindly offered to post it to us. This is a very slick, cool hotel that's brilliantly located for exploring Shoreditch/ Spitalfields etc. Would definitely recommend and look forward to returning some day!

I stayed at this amazing hotel with my two children. Our room was amazing and the bathroom was just luxurious. The hotel was exactly what we wanted and more. It is very conveniently located within a short walking distance from Moorgate and Liverpool train stations which was ideal for us to travel to and from central London. The staff were very friendly and go above and beyond ones expectations. The hotel is very much a boutique hotel with very intimate settings and we felt at home and at ease. With larger hotel chains, albeit service may be just as good, guests don’t often feel as if they are the focal point - South Place manages to do that! Thank you for making our short stay memorable!

I have now had the pleasure of staying at this lovely luxury boutique hotel on 6 occasions in total and yet again it was a perfect stay. I provide my security services to 3 separate clients and I work 6 days a week up to 78 hours. So, I take a well-needed 3 days off every so often to rest up and catch up on some relaxation time. I keep coming back to the same hotel as it's the perfect place to recharge my battery and get some relaxation in. The super king beds are huge and extremely comfy and you even get a pillow menu with a selction of different pillow types to choose from. The fabulous bathroom with the massive deep bath is really a huge draw for me as I only have a shower room at home. On my last stay, I treated myself to Suite 610 which is basically the Penthouse. Talk about the WOW factor on another level. I have been in many luxury suites in my time but this one wins the prize for sure. It's massive and decorated to an incredibly high standard with a large dining room and a sitting room with a separate adjoining master bedroom and Bathroom. I highly recommend this suite for a special treat. The only downside was I was struggling with a terrible cold. The lovely minibar attendant came in to check my minibar, she noticed I had some Manuka honey by the kettle and she could tell I was sick. She then asked if there was anything in particular, I needed. I just said some still water and lemon to replace the one I had on my first night. She came back about 10 min later with a handful of lemons, 5 bottles of still water, and extra Nespresso pods and milk. She had noticed what I had already used and brought several extras of everything so that I was well stocked up for the rest of my stay. She then said to rest up in bed and let them know if I needed anything else. I had encountered her on my other stays and she always had such nice friendly energy. But It was so lovely for her to go way above and beyond with the extra mile and it was very welcomed by myself to have that mothering side of concern for one of her guests. So, thank you very much Yolita for making my stay and experience extra special. My experience with all the team members across the departments has been super positive and they all are so nice and friendly. Thanks for a great stay yet again.

We only stayed here for one night and didn't spend much time in the hotel so have limited feedback. But, our room was supposed to be ready at 3pm and yet we couldn't get access til 4pm because it wasn't ready, they tried to ease this with a free drink but seeing as we had to leave at 5pm for a dinner reservation all it did was stress me out.
The room was OK, but a lot of the woodwork had dents, scratches and marks, so looked a bit shabby. Beautiful bathroom/shower and amazing amenities in the room, everything was thoroughly thought about. Weird TV though, really struggled with using it, even had to call reception to ask how we switch it off!
We ordered poached egg and avocado on toast for breakfast. It tasted nice but for £10 it would be nice to have 2 pieces of toast, also I'm not sure how the chef poaches the eggs but the yolk when cut open was full of water so I ended up with a plate full of a yolky water puddle.
All in all, I'd probably go back, but I didn't love it.

I am sorry to hear that you were not able to access your room on time at 3pm and it put pressure on you for your dinner plans in the evening. I am glad to hear that you have enjoyed the room and in particular the bathrooms and other amenities.
