Nestled in the heart of the city, Travelodge London Central City Road offers good value for its prime location, as pointed out by guests who appreciate the hotel's affordability. While its central position is well-regarded for its convenience to London's attractions and tube stations, some guests have experienced cleanliness and noise concerns. The service stands out for its friendly and professional staff, although there have been occasional lapses. Rooms are considered basic and in need of better maintenance, with notable noise disruptions and cleanliness inconsistencies. Amenities are functional, yet guests suggest they could be enhanced.

Location: located in the heart of City, less than 10’ walk from Liverpool St station, reached by trains from Stansted Airport, and with two other stations (Moorgate and Old St) 5’ and a good handful of buses on the same doorstep or in the immediate vicinity (note: in July 2024 both the bus stop at the hotel door and one in the surrounding area was temporarily cancelled by works). On the other hand, both the Barbican area (to the west) and the lively Spitalfields (to the east) are a ten-minute walk away, with some of London’s most iconic skyscrapers nearby.
Room: we were traveling three adults; the room, between the double bed and the two singles there was a hairstyle adjusted in size but nothing that was a problem, because the trip was for tourism and we spent all day exploring the city. The beds, as usual, very comfortable. Apart, large table with kettle and cups, and a shelf with four shelves, on one of which were iron, hairdryer and fan. There is no minibar or refrigerator, but next to the hotel there is a Tesco Express that opens daily from 07:00 to 23:00, perfect to buy any basics.
The bathroom, tight but sufficient, with bathtub with built-in shower and good pressure.
We were on the second floor and our window overlooked the main facade, and it is a busy street. If noise is a sleeping problem (it was not our case), request a room that faces the back.
The hotel has a huge lounge for breakfast and meals, as well as a bar (although we do not use either), and the bathrooms on the ground floor are, like other common areas, always very clean.
The front desk staff (both at check in and throughout the stay when I had to order something) are super friendly. Upon arrival, if it is not check-in time or there are no rooms available yet, they have a luggage storage; the same for the day of departure.
The catch: the room cleaning service does not make the beds or clean the room until the fifth day of stay; theoretically, if a sign is hung on the door, they go to pick up the dirty towels and empty the bins. The only time we requested this the towels were taken, but the bins were left uncollected. Similarly, both clean towels and toilet paper must be requested and collected from reception.

We had a great time! We booked a SuperRoom, we were assigned a room on the sixth floor, very quiet and clean. In the room, as specified in the Reservation, there was a coffee machine, iron, hairdryer and a fan. The hotel is in a good location, close to Old Street, Moorgate and Liverpool Street stations, the latter connected by various underground lines and trains from Stansted Airport. Breakfast was good (salty but with a decent variety of desserts) and the menu was the one indicated on the site before booking. Room cleaning is on request and baskets are emptied and towels are also changed daily. In the hotel there is a bar and also a restaurant where you can dine in the evening; there is also a free same-day luggage storage service. The staff is friendly, especially the lady who welcomes guests for breakfast in the morning. We hope to return to London and the Travelodge City Road soon.

We came home last night from our 4th stay in this hotel. Every time we have been very happy with the experience and this time was no different. We have always been greeted with a warm and friendly welcome by reception staff, who are willing to go above and beyond to help. Shout out to Kingsley for being so welcoming and recognising us from a previous stay! It’s not very often you get service like that anymore!

Room 133 - we always stay in a family room with a king size bed and 2 put up beds and have always had a comfortable night sleep. The 2 put up beds have slept both a 75 year old and 30 year old and we don’t have any complaints. Iron and ironing board in the room, a hairdryer which is great not having to pack one! Bathroom with bath & shower, grab rails for the bath which came in very handy when stepping in and out.
If the room had a couple more towel hooks and some coat hooks near the door or on the side of the wardrobe we would have had everything we needed.

This is the first time we opted for breakfast and it was lovely. Just what we needed before a day of sightseeing. Hot options included sausages, scrambled eggs, bacon, tomato’s, beans, mushrooms and hash browns. Continental options had various cereal including Rice Krispies, cornflakes, crunch nut and weetabix. The fruit salad was very refreshing and tasty. Small yoghurt pots, variety’s of milk. Toast, pancakes, bagels, croissants and different options for your toppings. Unlimited orange and apple juice and tea and coffee. Would definitely opt for breakfast again. The blonde lady who was meeting and greeting for breakfast was so friendly and always said goodbye to us on the way out.

There is a Tesco express 2 doors down from the hotel which is so handy to have if you are travelling on a budget or just wanting something quick. Plenty of times we’ve grabbed a meal deal before heading out.

If you are arriving into Kings Cross, there is a bus (241) that will take you directly outside the hotel. This was so handy rather than taking Ubers or a taxi as they can become really expensive. £1.75 for a bus and you can take unlimited trips within an hour for that price and pay no more than £5.25 a day for buses no matter how many trips you do. Liverpool Street station is a 10 minute walk from the hotel and Moorgate station around a 5-7 minute walk.

There are vending machines in the hotel which seem to always be stocked. I believe the bar is open 24 hours for drinks and late night snacks which is pizzas.

They do also offer a luggage service which they will store your bags for you safely and give you a ticket to keep as your ID for your bag when you return. I always take a picture just in case the small ticket is lost.

Overall we had another wonderful stay and can’t wait to return again in the near future!

Friendly and helpful staff welcomed us and the room was clean, and well maintained. This was a perfect location for us coming from Edinburgh into London Kings Cross as it is just a 5 minute walk across the two crossings to the hotel. The light breakfast offering was good too, made to feel very welcome by the staff and they did remarkably well keeping tables clear and serving area stocked as the room isn't the biggest and probably only seats 25 people (which is a feat for a 80+ room hotel!)

On the whole a lovely experience, great base for exploring London with Kings Cross tube station and numerous bus routes to get us around the theatre districts.

Will certainly be back.

Prior to our trip to the UK, we had arranged all of our boarding. We picked Travelodge London Central City Road because of price, location and availability. We were not disappointed by our choice. They had advised us that there would be construction noise, but as most of our stay was on a weekend, this was not a problem. We would have preferred our two rooms for four adults to be nearer to each other, (1st floor and 6thfloor), but that did work out. There was a lift, so no problem trucking the luggage upstairs. There was also a Cafe/Bar. As with the other Travelodges we stayed in, the rooms were super neat and clean, had a little problem figuring out the shower, the beds and pillows here were a shade nicer that the others. A very positive stay. What was remarkable was the staff. We needed help with directions and times and Julian was incredible, figuring out what bus to use, where the stop was and drawing us a map on how to get there. He even offered to walk us to the bus or tube station and make sure we knew how to use our Oyster Cards at the end of his shift. The others on duty, NIra, Asia, and Steven were just as helpful. Marcus too who helped unload our luggage and showed us where the Car Park was. We might have preferred free parking, but that is a rarity especially in London, and at least the NCP Car Park was only 2 blocks away. Would definitely stay there again and recommend it highly. It was totally booked while we were there.

Stay here often. Great location if you work in the city, spacious fully equipped rooms and friendly staff. WiFi is solid, ironing board in every room, rooms are usually a good temperature, not too hot nor too cold. Good value for money all things considered. Quiet too considering it’s in the heart of the city. Always enjoy seeing Darren at the bar, excellent service every time.

The staff is attentive, but they have the habit that, if you want them to clean you (towels and garbage) you have to put up the sign. Of course, they only take the garbage bags and change the towels, they do not replenish the tea (despite the fact that they indicate that on the sign) nor do they replenish basic things in the bathroom, such as rolls of paper, gel or soap (on two occasions We indicated that there was a lack of gel and soap and we had to choose to buy a bottle). The breakfast was correct, although I don't know if it was a coincidence that the coffee machines broke. Fruit apples and bananas, little else. The bread predominated in white or whole grain bread. For me, milk for lactose intolerant people is missing (almond bean) and gluten-free bread. Regarding the cleaning of the room, as I said, they clean little, we found a piece of plastic between the sheets. Of course, the room was for 4 people and is quite spacious. Nearby there are places to eat and buy food, such as Tesco, M&S, Amazon Food, Sainsbury, there is a Pret a manger, KFC, etc. Be careful that many places to eat close on Sundays, because it is an area with many skyscrapers with offices. In terms of communication, it has 3 metro stops nearby, Liverpool, Old Street and Moorgate. You can pay with a credit card with contact less, be careful that you have to swipe it at the entrance and exit. Also pay attention to the signs that inform about the metro lines that are closed. You can walk to the Tower of London, it will take about 20 minutes.

I could write a whole book on everything that sucked about this place. To start, the lobby feels nice but as soon as you go up to the rooms it’s uncomfortably hot. To make things worse, there’s no A/C and they just give you a tiny little fan which doesn’t help and is loud for when you sleep. They never made the beds, changed our towels, gave more toilet paper, nor took the trash out. It was horrible showering in there because the water temperature would go from too hot to too cold (also this might just be me but something in the shower smelled weird). The shampoo/body soap they provide is literally 90% water. The toilet wouldn’t fully flush. This hotel also uses false advertising as they show the nice building next doors facade as if it’s theirs.

The rooms all have windows completely blocked up for building work. There is no natural light or ventilation. The rooms are consequently hot and dark they are very depressing. We booked a super room is was anything but. There was no mention of this on the app when booking the first we knew was when we checked in and went to our grim room. The staff did offer us an alternative room but appartently it every window in the hotel is blocked up for building work. We had to have fresh towels everyday as there was only one towel rail to dry 4 towels. The refreshments and towels were not always refreshed. I strongly recommend that you don't book this hotel until Travelodge can confirm that the building work is complete. We paid a lot of money to stay in a grim dark room - never again

Firstly the pros...

Location is good
Staff try their best

However...

The hotel was dirty
There was vomit outside the hotel on arrival
Cups in the room had dirt in them
Shower head was dirty
Shower curtain was dirty
Chair in the room was stained
The bed was marked

The hotel staff cleaned the room once they were made aware, but frankly a dirty hotel is just not ok

Add to that I booked a super room on the promise of a nice coffee machine and upgraded shower... You get a total of 4 coffee pods, 2 caffeinated and 2 decaf. Those ran out and the staff said they had only decaf left... Small details, but if you pay extra you expect to get what you pay for

The multi function shower didn't work properly so it was just a standard shower.

I purchased a meal deal, the website says you can eat from 12 midday onwards but staff made it clear dinner was from 5pm only.

Honestly this was a huge let down... The room was dirty and I got none of the benefits of the super room for which I paid a supplement to enjoy.

To top it all off, housekeeping woke me up at 10.30 in the morning despite check out not being until 12.00

In closing, the hotel is dirty and the super rooms are not worth the extra you pay

I wouldn't stay here again, in fact I doubt I'll ever stay in a Travelodge again after this experience.
