The reception staff were awesome, attentive, knowledgeable and so welcoming! The Aparthotel was great, it was clean and all the mod cons functioned well. The bed was comfy, the bathroom was a good size (plenty hot water) as was the lounge area with kitchenette and eating area. The view out of the window wasn't all that, but did it matter? Of course not, we had lots of light flood into the lounge area and we had a good heating system should it get cooler. The sofa arms weren't very comfy, but that was soon fixed, we just grabbed our extra pillow and used it as a cushion to lean on and watch TV. There's a Co-op next door which had good value priced food which made lunch/snacks/dinner easy to sort after a long day out investigating York City. The cooker hob and obvs the oven is electric. The switches on the back panel should be switched on prior to using the electrical appliances. To turn the oven on, turn the far left dial to the fan icon, middle is the timer, right is the degrees. You have to set the timer in order for the food to cook. Microwave - click programme/on, should say '100', press 'Start', turn dial to however long you need to cook your food for. Hob - press 'on' button, then select the hob back or front icon, then the +/- sign depending on how high or low you want the heat to be. Always remember that every time you want to adjust the heat, select the icon in connection to the hob you're using. N. B. It'll only heat up once you place the pan on the hob. There's an extractor fan hood which is handy for eliminating odours whilst cooking. More than enough utensils and plates etc. Fridge freezer/dishwasher and even a washing machine. We hand washed our utensils, dishes etc. You're supplied with fairy liquid, washing up sponge, a J cloth and dishwasher tablets, so take your pick. I brought my washing up gloves with me due to my hands drying out, but the water is surprisingly kind to my hands as was the liquid. We wanted to stay for longer but sadly, all rooms were booked up and we're not surprised! If you're getting the bus from York railway station, the number 7 from the RH or RJ stop across the road from the station gets you to the Barbican which is just a few mins walk away from the Stayaparthotel. On the way back, get the 7 bus from the Edinburgh Arms. We hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did. P. S. Thank you to the young guy at reception for noticing us hovering to checkout and sorting this out for us immediately.

Clean & modern. Comfortable big bed. All amenities were a great addition to the room. We were able to check in when we arrived a little early. Fantastic location to the city centre & walls. Perfect location if watching a show at York Barbican.

Surprise weekend away for my partners birthday with planned experience of ghost walk around York in the evening. Great hotel with fantastic facilities, room was clean, had everything we needed in the apartment. . Close to York center with secure parking available. Very helpful and friendly staff during our stay. Local Coop close to hotel to buy snacks. Would definitely use Stay city again.

Great location, but I wish I hadn't paid so much for what was a very 'average' stay. The shower was extremely disappointing as it really lacked power. Would have also liked the sofa bed to have been made up for us before we arrived, but we had to do it ourselves. Car parking was also expensive, even with the hotel rate.

Great weekend stay with family. Convenient location which is a 5 mins walk to city center but not as busy. You can enjoy the peeks of being in the city center, but still quiet althrougout the day. Co-op shop next to the hotel comes in handy when travelling as a family. Very accommodating and friendly staff, fast check-in and out. The room was spacoius, moderm toilet and bath, and the kitchenette was a plus. There is also a secure parking area next the hotel.

We’ve stayed here before and it was decent, this time we were in the new part of the hotel and in a room with no window and poor air con. Stuffy to say the least. The hotel has a good location and has a nearby car park but I don’t think we would be back in a hurry. Ok for one night, I’ve seen hotel rooms advertised in budget chains where you pay extra for a window, funny the things you take for granted, fresh air and a view for example!

Pros Friendly reception staff Fully equipped kitchen incl washing machine Really good co-op right next door Lovely ensuite master bedroom Comfy beds, pillows and duvets Clean, modern bathrooms with great showers. Nice pubs nearby. Head in the opposite direction to town and you'll find a gastro pub, the Rose and Crown, which does great pub food A pleasant 15 (not 10) minute walk into the centre of town and near the hop on/off bus route Located opposite the lovely York walls 24 hour reception serving drinks and some snacks Cons 2nd bedroom is too small. You have to push the single beds together or you can't close the door/access the tiny closet. There isn't enough storage space so the kitchen table ended up full of our things. Living area was disappointingly small and dingy. Nothing like the poster advertising the flats on the outside of the wall by reception. Very misleading photos. Flats are only serviced if you are staying 7 nights or more. I actually prefer it when there isn't daily housekeeping but the problem is there was no hoover (just a small dustpan and brush), no mop and, more importantly, no cleaning products. We were told that we could buy some from reception but I personally think it's bad paying £275 a night (This was Mon to Fri) and not to be given so much as a bottle of bleach to keep the flat hygienically clean and smelling fresh for us and the next occupants. Our kitchen bin wasn't emptied once and by the end of our stay the flat was really starting to smell. It absolutely stank of curry for our first two nights because the previous people must have had cartons sitting in the bin for days. There are no windows to open for fresh air so it can get stale and stuffy. The sound insulation is poor, so you can hear people in the above flats walking around and chairs scraping. We must have had someone's kitchen above our bedroom which was unfortunate. Try to ask for the top floor so this doesn't happen. Because of this I wanted to double lock the front door as it sounded like someone was in our apartment one night and I got a bit spooked. The additional lock was broken so I mentioned it to reception thinking they would fix it but they told me all these locks had been removed on purpose. When I asked why she just shrugged. There were several people staying who looked down on their luck...maybe they had locked themselves in and refused to leave in the past? Who knows, but seems bonkers to actively remove secondary locks from every door. It was pitch black at night walking back to the reception area. It's by a disused carpark and although I didnt feel unsafe it was a bit unnerving. There were security lights but they weren't working whilst we were there. Minor complaints....there is a grill but no grill pan and the oven tray had seen better days. No kitchen sink plug to hand wash dishes and only given 2 dishwasher tablets. Chipped and stained mugs, living room door was squeaky and had to really slam the smaller bedroom door to close it. Assume the flat above us had similar problems as could hear them slamming doors. If you are just coming for a short stay, especially if seeing something at the Barbican next door, this place is fine. But for a longer stay there are much better places to go.

It was all the way a 5 star experience for us until check out. Got a free upgrade to a bigger room which was clean and tidy, greatly appreciated. Location is great, with a supermarket just next door and near to the City Center. Upon checking in, we were greeted and attended by a gentleman receptionist who was kind and friendly. As for why 4 stars were given instead of 5, here’s the story. MINUTES after checking out with a lady receptionist, we realised that we needed to validate our car parking ticket. When my girlfriend went back to the reception, in front of her was another guest who wanted to validate her ticket as well. The same lady receptionist, treated the other guest with respect. When it was our turn, the attitude changed and questioned if we are guests of the hotel and even so, why didn’t we validate our ticket earlier. If all guests are not treated with the same level of respect, then perhaps she should do some self-reflection.

Located near the Barbican so good position and a short walk to the Castle museum and centre. Only stayed one night but great to have kitchen facilities. Lost a star as no window, just a light tunnel, which, as it was a dull day, we didn't even notice until the next day. If we'd been staying longer we would have asked to move to acroom with a window.

When we arrived the place was heaving with exchange students and was manic. After nearly a three hour drive we asked if there was a toilet to use. There was just one toilet with a queue of at least 9 people waiting including a large stag party. Straight away I thought we'd made the wrong decision. We'd booked two rooms but only one was available so couldn't check in until later. When we finally got to our room, on first inspection it looked great with a separate lounge area. I then noticed the floor hadn't been swept/hoovered and there was a lot of dust and even nuts on the floor. The bedding had lots of dirty marks on too. As it was 10pm we just had to grin and bear it. The corridors also had a very strange cooking smell in them that was very off putting. I was expecting to hear lots of noise throughout the night but thankfully didn't hear anything and the beds were comfy. The room was far too hot though so not a good nights sleep. The next morning we used their toilet again before leaving but someone had been sick in the sink. It definitely felt more like a youth hostel for students and stag/hen nights. I didn't think it was value for money and in the future I'd rather pay a few pounds more to stay nearer the city centre with parking/breakfast included.
