I booked one night for a single room at Farthings. The experience totally beats my expectation. Room was tiny but classy/cozy, with everything you would expect from a hotel - in-room tea, coffee, cookies and even a bathrobe! Breakfast was another highlight. I ordered a full English breakfast and there's a breakfast bar that you can eat to your heart.... More

My fifth five-night visit in five years. Helen and her mother, Shireen offer a friendly welcome, a warm comfortable, clean room, huge tasty breakfasts and go out of their way to make you feel "one of the family". The guest house is in a quiet street within easy walking distance of the rail and bus station and the main shopping... More

We had a very comfortable stay here! As soon as we arrived, our hostess gave us a city map and marked the top spots and how to walk to them from Farthings. Our room was cutely decorated and comfortable- in room tea and coffee, large bed, the bathroom tiny but adequate. The only downside was the noise- the walls were... More

We stayed in room 2. It is a bit cramped, particularly the shower /saniflow toilet. However, Helen could not have been more helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much bother and the breakfast was excellent; plenty of choice and lots of locally sourced ingredients. It's also an easy walk into the centre. Recommended.

We stayed as a family in Rooms 1 and 2 recently and were seriously concerned about the cleanliness of the showers in both bathrooms. In room 2 you can hear people talking when going up and down the stairs and entering the dining room. It felt like someone's front room and not a bedroom. Check-in time was after 5pm, not... More

This lovely friendly B&B is ideally located. It is only a 5 minute walk to the Micklegate bar and excellent place to start the wall walk. We arrived to a friendly welcome from Helen the owner and this continued throughout our stay from all of her family. Bedrooms are clean and comfortable with tea & coffee facilities. Unfortunately the rooms... More

Being somewhat handicapped I requested a ground-level room and was delighted with its comfort and ambience. I was also pleased to find sufficient wall outlets to recharge all of the electronic stuff we seem to feel compelled to travel with these days. Also room to plus in my travel CPAP machine. Breakfast was marvelous and the staff were pleasant and... More

Comfortable rooms, quiet street, tasty breakfast, a personable and thoughtful host, and a friendly dog to boot! Really enjoyed our stay at The Farthings, which is walking distance from the historic center of York (Roman Walls, Micklegate, The Shambles, Yorkminster Abbey, and PUBS GALORE).
