Not cheap but worth the money. the staff are welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them. We traveled to York by train and the hotel is a five walk of the train station. The hotel is expensive to eat in but there are plenty of places to eat within easy walking distance.
We stayed 3 nights at The Grand. All of the team here without exception were friendly and helpful. We stayed on a room only basis as we wanted to have flexibility in the types of food and timings during the day. The Grand is literally 5 minutes walk away from the train station. We saw quite a few cars outside the front, they tended to be the Porsche/Bentley/Jaguar type cars. Not sure where the other parking is. The hotel is literally in front of the city walls. Which you can walk around much of. There are gaps in the walls but it is a great way to see much of the city. The hotel itself was gorgeous. The decoration and the way it is presented is first class. It has some Instagram ready interiors. We stayed in room 207, the room is large with large windows that let in plenty of light. The bathroom has all you need. They have thoughtfully ensured you have all you could want, including access to an iron and boardin your wardrobe, an Nespresso machine and a mini fridge. There is a large tv but you cannot access Netflix, Prime or other subscription based channels. We found the room very warm. We opened the two windows that could be opened. There is no air-conditioning so it might be quite warm in summer. We baked and it’s only January. One of the things with opening the windows, our room got a lot of noise. My husband and I got woken up at 4am to the bins being emptied for I can only assume the whole hotel. You can hear a lot of external noise in this room so be aware if you are a light to medium sleeper. Which is such a shame as the hotel is lovely and very central. In all we enjoyed our stay, however not sure we feel rested due to the broken sleep. If we came back we would definitely ask for a quieter room, and one that we could regulate the heat a bit.…
Absolutely stunning hotel! it is one of the must to visit when being in York. Rooms in roman house and specious and well designed, restaurant has fantastic menu and service throughout the hotel is second to none.
Amazing venue . Friendly staff and gorgeous food. I stayed over and had porridge served with fresh fruit: strawberry, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries and syrup. Really impressive. Definitely recommend this hotel. Sadly I was working the next day so couldn’t sample the spa., but I could do express checkout which was fab given I was on the early train to London the next day. It’s also 5 mins walk to the station which is really handy
I have always wanted to stay as I used to work for GNER and when my friend and I saw the winter escape package and our birthdays were so close together we booked. From the minute we arrived until the minute we left we were looked after and the staff were so friendly and genuine. Particular mention must go to Robert and Eslam (I hope I have spelt this right). They were just naturally friendly, funny, caring and knowledgeable and made our stay even better. We had a room in the new part … it did not disappoint with big comfortable beds, beautiful bed linen, big fluffy robes … I could go on. Our meal in the rise restaurant was delicious and the steak cooked to perfection. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic with a huge choice. The bar in the hotel was really lovely too. We did visit the spa but didn’t have any treatments. It was nice but not as nice as the rest of the hotel. I can’t wait to go back 😊…
My wife and i stayed 2 nights last week on the Winter Escape Package , from our arrival to departure all of the staff were absolutely amazing so attentive , helpful and caring. The room was spotlessly clean and very spacious , we had breakfast and evening meals in The Rise , and the food was excellent , big shout out to Abdur for making our evening visits nights to remember . Thanks to everyone at The Grand
We stayed here for one night in an executive suite on the dinner, bed and breakfast rate. From the start outside dealing with the consierge, this place exuded class. The gentlemen outside could not have been more hopeful with the parking arrangements and options. This carried on to the reception staff who even showed us where the bar, restaurant and spa entrance were. The room was lovely and spacious, huge Queen (or King) bed and a table and chairs so we could relax in front of the telly whilst sipping prosecco 🥂 We had a very nice cocktail in the beautifully decorated bar, this was followed by dinner in the restaurant. The food, surroundings and service were as good as it gets, Cote du Boef was outstanding. Finally, in the morning we donned our robes and went down to the spa and had a pleasant swim then proceeded to the very nice breakfast (which included smoked salmon and the like). Overall we had a fantastic stay and we will definitely come again. 100% recommended 😀…
The best hotel in York by a mile, from start to finish is pure class and excellence. The children came this time and were greeted with gifts and spoken to by staff in special way. Was absolutely lovely. This was our 4th stay and would ALWAYS come back the grand as nothing beats it.
From start to finish, amazing. My partner booked us a two night stay here as a surprise birthday treat. I was thoroughly spoiled and would definitely come back. Arrival was lovely with such a lovely guy on the entrance, so helpful taking our luggage and letting us know what to do if the rooms weren’t ready. Didn’t need to worry though as our rooms were ready. Beautiful spacious room with everything you need: enormous bed, beautifully appointed headboard with lighting, switches for everything and usb plug points next to the bed. Dressing table and mirror in the right place, more plug and usb sockets. Kettle and coffee maker, lots of options and sweet little shortcakes. Mini fridge with lots of water and milk - filled each day and has chilled glasses in there if you want to bring some wine. No overpriced miniatures!!! Iron and iron board. Hair dryer. Safe etc. Beautiful big bathroom, big bath for two and full Compliment of Molton and Brown toiletries. Curtains are black out. Very comfortable. We ate at the Rise restaurant which was simply divine. The food was delicious. I had the shepherd pie which was a shoulder of lamb covered in mash which a rich gravy served separately. It looked a modest portion on arrival - but was incredibly tasty and very filling. My partner had beef cheeks which were melt in the mouth and plentiful, although he did manage a dessert 🤗 which was their milk and honey specialty. I had a little spoonful and it was delightfully light, unusual but tasty. We then went to the spa in the morning - I should give a little shout out to my partner who booked all this without me knowing - he got it spot on! The spa area is modest, but all you need, swimming pool is a good size and 4’ deep all along. Lovely sauna and steam room and jacuzzi which we made use of. All impeccably maintained, clean and comfortable. We had the drift away massage each was was simply amazing. The therapists are all lovely ladies, kind and informative and great at what they do. The massage was about an hour and so relaxing. Two nights was perfect, we weren’t rushed, they kept our luggage for us on our last day and the location is spot on for getting there by train. The guys on the door are great - so kind and helpful - we were very grateful for some words of wisdom on where to go in York. The staff in the hotel are all fantastic, friendly and helpful and truly made the overall experience perfect. We will be back!!!…
Had a fantastic girls afternoon at the grand with spa and afternoon tea package! Welcomed by most friendly and helpful doorman Wayne! After our time in the spa Trevor made our afternoon tea amazing! Drinks were promt and plentiful and nothing was too much trouble when we wanted to swap a couple of items on the menu.
