This is shame to write as we know people make mistakes but its how they are resolved. Last day having to wait over an hour to be served breakfast which ruined a good couple of days away.. we have used this hotel before and loved it but to wait over 20mins to even get your order taken and then watch people who got seated after you get their food first, to then wait over an hour to be fed was a little too much
What a lovely place ! Building oozes with character - all grade 2 listed art nouveau decoration . Bar is a lovely cosy area for drinks which we enjoyed both before & after our meal in the bistro . We opted for dinner , bed & breakfast which was great value . Dinner was superb as was the freshly cooked breakfast .Staff were great with particular mention to Chris the bar manager who was friendly and helpful , giving us information about the history of the hotel when we asked . Room was freshly & tastefully decorated . All this and just up the road from the city walls of lovely York !
Breakfast and evening meal were absolutely delicious. Disappointed that the restaurant was closed for lunch and without prior warning, however the location of the hotel is but a 15minutes walk into the city centre. There are plenty of cafes and pubs close by. Parking is an issue-it’s £10 per night IF you manage to get a space in the small car park and your space is not guaranteed should you need to journey in the car before the day is over. If you can’t get a space I would recommend paying for a space via the JustPark app. There is a payable space a near 3minute walk across the road on trentholme drive via JustPark. The space owner Owen was very helpful and friendly. The decor of the hotel is beautiful. My room and en-suite were gorgeous. It was a very quiet sleep, comfortable bed and temperature. There is a thermostat in the room for guest use. My room also had tea & coffee facilities including decaf and a mini bar with complimentary water and Kit Kats. Would definitely stay here again.…
Came for an overnight stay with friends. A beautiful boutique hotel, thoughtfully decorated and designed . Rooms were immaculately clean and very comfortable. We had a delux room which was huge with a gorgeous en-suite. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Would highly recommend .
Another Delightful Stay. Every time our time at the Elmbank comes to end it’s always with a little sadness as we hate leaving. Such a unique hotel in a beautiful part of York with a fantastic interior and lovely staff. We’ve stayed in 2 categories of rooms and for the price the House Superior Deluxe is our go to room (319 to be precise). It’s spacious beyond anything you could wish for and the bed oh the bed gives such a good nights sleep. The bathroom is Devine. The Staff are always friendly and helpful. We will be back soon.
WOW WOW! What a beautiful hotel, booked this through “buy a gift” so wasn’t sure what to expect! We were upgraded to a deluxe double room which was absolutely gorgeous! The bed was huge and so comfortable! The room had so much character about it! The shower was brilliant! We had Bed, Breakfast and Dinner, the food was amazing, dinner was so good and the staff were brilliant!! Breakfast was also great, help yourself to all cold things and then you ordered your hot food which was freshly made to order, the full English was amazing!! Will definitely return here in the future!
I had booked this for Sunday lunch as the 26th was my Birthday and I had decided to pay as my Husband had organised a fab weekend away in York. The only time available to book on the website was 4pm. We arrived and Reception and had a 'discussion' about the 3 for 2 course voucher which I had thought I have booked but hadn't! Bearing in mind the limited booking times, all tables were available bar one which had 4 people sitting on it. We were ignored by the bar staff for approx 10 mins, then a menu was delivered and 2 minutes later "Can I take your order?". My Husband expressed an interest in a bottle of wine to which the reply came "I'm sorry Sir we have no red wine!". A hotel without red wine for a Sunday lunch service................ Needless to say we got up and left and had a lovely meal elsewhere in the city. The interior of the building is stunning but everything else is a poor show!…
Check in and room good Then it all went wrong, All hotel staff had left for their Xmas party. Replacement staff who had never been in the hotel tried very hard but really struggled The hotel staff for next day breakfast were shocking, Tables were dirty, buffet was empty and not replenished a fiasco I contacted the hotel manager about this with no response. Not acceptable.
This was a great base for our trip to York. Our accommodation was in the “Lodge” which is the property over the other side of the road. The room size was very generous and comfortable. The hotel location is great as it’s only a 10-15 walk away from the city centre.
Nice room, but the sink would fill up whilst brushing your teeth, bringing up the dirt from the u bend and the shower was also slow draining so you can't have a long shower without it over flowing. The breakfast was reheated from the day before and over cooked although we booked breakfast for 2 mornings we only has it once because it was disappointing.
