Perfect location for a visit to York. Close to Fossgate, where there are excellent bars and eating places. Right next door to a wether spoons for perfect breakfast. Lovely views of the tower within the city walls. Excellent staff and lovely clean, warm and comfortable rooms
We have just checked out after a 3 night stay and had a great stay. I telephoned couple of weeks back requesting a quiet room overlooking the river and on arrival we were allocated room 105. Hotel staff were lovely, we spoke to 2/3 staff and asked another about buses. They were really nice staff. The room itself wasn’t cleaned to a very good standard. There were few bits on floor and under bed was a little compact mirror and an empty pop bottle. Room was very draughty and we were cold but just closed curtains which helped. One day we left notice on door handle to replenish tea bags but they wernt replenished so had to go to reception to get some on the early evening. It’s was cheap and cheerful with Wetherspoons right next door so yes I’d stay here again.
Stayed at the york central hotel for a quick overnight break. Thank god it was only one night. Put in a room at side of a noisy generator or chiller unit that ran all night and the windows dont block out any external noises. Then when we did manage to doze. We were woke by the manger of the wetherspoons below the hotel slamming and stacking chairs outside the room with no regard for anyone who may have been in the hotel. That was just after 6 am .. so if you go here ask for a room on the back or side about 100 .
We stay here once a year and are always happy with our stay. Clean, recently updated rooms, riverside/Clifford tower views, excellent location-5 mins walk from shambles, friendly reception staff and cleaners, q-parking discount, next door to Wetherspoons for cheap beer!
Great hotel to stay,I liked it so much I booked a extra night,it’s in a great place so u can walk in to town or if not there’s a great bar out side to chill and have food, the staff is very friendly,I will be going back
Stayed here for the weekend (27th-29th January) with friends (6 of us in total) ideally situated within walking distance of the station and york city centre. There is a weatherspoons right next door for breakfast or any other food/drink, we didn’t use but was full on the days we stayed. hotel i has 2 lifts and 3 floors, rooms very spacious and has a tv, towels and coffee/tea facilities. York city wall is within easy access. Rooms big/clean and bed comfortable, there is a kettle to make tea/coffee, but a little disappointed as one of my friends also had Kit Kat chocolate? There was parking a few minutes away, but didn’t ask as we travelled by train. So ask when booing The room i was in (308) had vibration from the road that woke me up around 2-3 am.
I stayed one night for business as I had an early morning meeting in York. Over the years I’ve stayed in many city centre hotels including many Travelodges. Yes the check in/ reception area is soulless and generic but the staff here were very friendly. The room was very clean and the bathroom spotless which is relatively unusual for a Travelodge to be honest. Most importantly there was no noise during the night either inside or outside which woke me up. So clean, safe (a solo female traveler) and an uninterrupted night. Worth the money
Overall I would recommend this hotel apart from the fact that my room carpet and bathroom floor had not been spotless ! Bits here and there on the carpet, pieces of chocolate near the bed leg and bits behind the door in the bathroom, otherwise OK. Hotel is in same building as Wetherspoons, so handy for cooked meals, 5 mins from shops, a little traffic noise at night through window vent, would stay again.
Good location 10 min walk to the centre, next door to a Wetherspoon's were you could get a cook breakfast, nice clean modern room with everything you need for a couple of nights was good value for money
Travelodge hotels are ok, the new design is good and felt thought out. There was a lot of road noise and there is also a Wetherspoons directly underneath which they don’t seem to have taken into account noise wise, there’s also a lot of road noise that also doesn’t seem to get cut out by the windows. We also made a booking late on, realised we messed up and immediately called up to change it, the person on the end of the phone was more like the person from little Britain and just didn’t care “computer says no” seems to be Travelodge's new slogan. The staff at the hotel were nice however I do think there needs to be a bit of a warning at how far the rooms are from the lifts, if I had been someone who struggled to walk long distances this potentially would have been an issue.
