Stayed here for a couple of nights on a break in York on the back of reading the positive reviews of Trip Advisor and have to say we were really pleased we did.

Great location in what seems a pretty new hotel, we arrived around mid-day and had no issues putting our bags into safe storage, so we could venture out into town. When we checked-in later in the day, we found our room was a decent size and had all the things you need for a short break, comfy bed, kettle, safe and had the added bonus of a frig.

Breakfast is included in the price and offered a fab selection of both hot and cold options.

In addition the staff were super helpful and friendly.

The only very minor issue was the carpark is about a 10 minute walk away, it does offer a discounted rate so certainly not a deal breaker for us.

So overall, great stay and would certainly stay here again.

Just returned from a 2 night trip to York. Unfortunately we was left a little disappointed by this hotel. Check in was 4pm; the room wasn’t quite ready when we arrived, so we was asked to take a seat, which was fine as it was explained the later check in was due to the rooms being thoroughly cleaned during the pandemic. However we was disappointed when entering the room to see a large clip on the floor, from the previous guest, suggesting the room had not been cleaned thoroughly. The rest of the room seemed clean, so we carried on with our visit. There was no option for clean towels during our 2 night visit, usually hotels have a suggestion to hang your towels to reuse or put in the bath to replace, however there is no cleaning service. We would normally reuse our towels anyway, however there was no option to hang and dry them anywhere, so by the end of our 2 nights the towels where damp and not very pleasant to use. You can’t even hang them on the bathroom door to dry as it’s a sliding door. Although breakfast was tasty, you really do struggle to find a seat to eat, with lots of dirty tables, not get cleared, there are huge queues and no organisation. They don’t take your room number etc before entering, it’s just a free for all at the reception area.
In regards to good points, the staff are extremely friendly , bed was somewhat comfortable and the bathroom had a nice shower. The location is amazing too, right in the city centre and close to parking. Personally, I would not recommend this hotel, given the cost v quality of hotel. Such a shame as with the right management, this could be a lovely hotel.

We stayed in room 402 Queen room with a sofa bed. My review in on this room and our experience..

Hotel is modern, fresh and welcoming. First contact is with Chelsea on front of house (happy to help and not just because it’s her job) Check in was check and efficient. Breakfast is booked in a time slot because of coved restrictions, get 30 minutes which is plenty of time.

Lift to the rooms are operated with your keycard for security.

Room was spotlessly clean with a sticker on the door to show no one had entered since it had been sanitised.
Very bright and large room with a large bed, very large TV, cupboards, units, fridge, hairdryer, iron and ironing board. Sockets next to bed with handy usb sockets.
Bathroom is bright with a shower and toilet. The fluffiest white towels, complimentary hand wash, shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Shaver sockets are also there.

Bed was really comfortable. We had a great nights sleep. Not a sound from the hotel or outside could be heard.

Breakfast was very tasty. Everything from full English to continental, something to please everyone.

Outside terrace is a sun trap after lunch. Smoking is allowed on the terrace. We had several drinks outside, very well priced, we even found them cheaper than a lot of the establishments in the city centre.

Checkout is simply posting your keycards into a deposit box. If needed they have a secure luggage room if you are travelling later in the day. Chelsea also called us a taxi to the train station, taxi arrived in less than five minutes.

It’s a 15 minute walk from the train station or a few minutes in a taxi for a fiver. 5 minutes walk to the city centre and all the attractions.

On our experience I highly recommend staying here.

Since covid started and as my wifeis NHS this is our first night away in 18 months and We can’t thank you enough for our stay.

We will be back again very soon!

The HbH in York is not like any other HbH I’ve ever stayed at. Yes, it is new, so quite exciting if this is the direction the brand is going in.

The rooms are well laid out with a nice corner sofa, which I imagine becomes a bed if you need it, a very decent sized double, floor to ceiling windows (with a view of the river for us), a mini SMEG fridge, a massive television and a good bathroom with a double headed shower.

We heard no noise during our stay which is always a big tick from me and the included breakfast to the usual HbH standard.

The location of the hotel is great, very central to the city and only a few minutes walk from most places, but that presents two potential downsides. 1) There is no parking at the hotel, but this is York so very few places have parking and 2) as a good hotel in a good location the prices are set accordingly, so this is undoubtedly one of the most premium HbH hotels in the UK.

Would happily stay here again for the right price.

The breakfast was great, with a wide selection and individually wrapped rolls, crumpets and croissants to prevent other guests from touching your food. There was also hand gel and sanitising wipes throughout the public areas. However, the best bit for me was the contactless key, meaning I could open doors using my phone.

We visited The Hampton By Hilton York Piccadilly as a group of three (2 Adults & 1 Child) and I will break my review of our stay into positives & negatives using bullet points in order to make it easier!

Positives:

.The hotel is approximately a 20 minute walk from York Train Station which is perfect for those using public transport. The location is also around a 5 minute walk to/from The Shambles Market area which is perfect for when you’ve done a heck of lot of walking visiting the various attractions (Jorvik Viking Centre is practically next door and is a must do when visiting York)

.The rooms are clean, modern and equipped with a 50 inch TV (Perfect for early risers like myself), Modern Fridge, Safe and most importantly for myself! Air Con, which was a life saver in the intense summer heat we’ve had this year.

.Bathroom is fantastic! Very powerful showers which left me feeling like a new man! The hotel also provides plenty of shampoo, body wash, etc.

.The digital check in system is very good as well as giving you access to a digital key which works reliably in the most areas of the hotel. Check out was also done digitally via the app meaning if you don’t want to then you have no need to interact with the staff, although I can see how this might leave some guests feeling slightly disappointed with the lack of interaction with staff.

.Breakfast is very good! It’s a buffet style breakfast serving everything from a full English to Cereals, yoghurts, pastries and even fresh waffles!

Negatives:

.The bed in my opinion was very uncomfortable, it was hard as a rock and the pillows were ridiculously soft meaning you sank through the pillows onto the mattress which was solid. Perhaps if you like that sort of thing it would be perfect but for me it was pretty bad.

.The immediate vicinity is rather rough, we saw quite a few local homeless people crowding around the Tesco next door, broken glass all over the pavements. I appreciate those issues are not down the hotel however but it is something those with young children should consider when booking (I would like to say that the hotel itself is safe and secure)

Summary:

Honestly if you are on something of a budget and would like a few days away relatively cheaply you can’t knock The Hampton By Hilton York Piccadilly. But before you book check out the Hilton website as I managed to get a very good deal on the hotel by joining up to the Hilton Honours Programme as part of my booking. (Approximately £100 cheaper for three nights which is no small amount nowadays)
We look forward to our next visit when we next visit York!

A lovely clean, modern hotel with good facilities. The rooms are small but very clean and modern with a huge tv and floor to ceiling windows. The bar is spacious and comfortable with a decent range of drinks. The breakfast is amazing with plenty of choice. The menu for night time was limited.

There is no on site parking and the long stay payable car park is half a mile away so that is my only criticism. I travelled just me and two kids, one who is in a wheelchair and getting bags from and back to car was a bind. There is a bag drop lay-by outside on the main road, just big enough for 2 cars if they pull in considerately instead of parking in the middle of it.

There was a false fire alarm at 2.30am during our stay thanks to an inconsiderate guest smoking in their room! If they are reading this, YOU’RE AN IDIOT!! Trying to get a disabled child down stairs without using a lift is not easy and he almost fainted. We didn’t get back to sleep after that as my kids were terrified!

Went here early July for 2 nights with family. Very central hotel, 5 minute walk to the Shambles. I had previously been advised that check in would be fine for 3pm. We arrived at 3.30 to be told one room was ok but the other had been cleaned but needed bed linen. Once on the room we started to unpack and the cleaners came to do the beds. They left quickly but had just thrown all the pillows and cushions on the bed so it looked a mess. There was 3 of us in the room but we only had enough towels for 3 so had to ask for more. As we were getting changed to go out, someone, we presume another cleaner, just let herself in the room, saw us and left. I have seen this mentioned in another review so not an isolated incident. The pillows were feather so very soft with little support. After the first night of not sleeping well, I asked for different ones and they were much better. The breakfast was great, plenty of choice of hot and cold food. The waffle makers were a nice change. The only problem with breakfast was guests were allowed to seat themselves so some were sat on tables meant for larger groups. We wandered round the second morning to try and find a table as only smaller ones left. The staff did all they could but there wasn't enough of them for the amount of guests. In the reception area there was coffee/tea machine and a microwave. We used this a few times and used plates and cutlery form the hotel. To get up the stars or in the lift you needed your key so that was good. The room itself was fine, a Smeg fridge and a massive tv. We had 3 in our room and my Son said the sofa bed was uncomfortable as it was different levels where he lay. The duvet he had was obviously a double one so most of it was on the floor which wasn't ideal as we kept tripping over it. On check out day a maid knocked at the door at 8.45 asking us if we weer leaving, we were just before 11 so she left. At 9am the fire alarm went off. We assume this was a weekly practice as it stopped after a few seconds bu no mention of this so not 100% (this was a Wednesday). All in all, an ok stay. I think we must have been unlucky after seeing some other reviews. We used the Q park car park for the 2 nights and had no issues with getting the ticket validated or when leaving the car park.

We have just come home from a nights stay here. The hotel itself is new and pretty modern. We wanted a city centre hotel which is exactly what it is. Very close to everything and a short walk to most shops, bars and restaurants.

Positives - location, lovely friendly staff on reception and in the breakfast area , breakfast choice, room was ready earlier then check in time, shower size in the bathroom (we had a king room), view of the castle from our window, didn’t hear any noise from either rooms beside or above us and the hotel was fully booked. Huge bed and tv. Lovely smeg fridge in the bedroom. The bathroom decor is really lovely with the tiles and wall mirror.

Slight let downs (don’t want to say negatives as they didn’t ruin our stay. Just improvements needed) - the room was pretty cold despite heating saying it was on 23 degrees, think there was a draft problem with the large windows. the smart tv in the room was great but the smart function had been disabled so could not use it as a smart tv. The cleanliness of the room let it down slightly. I am quite picky with cleanliness but did find quite a few hairs in the bathroom and on the shower base there was part of it that looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in a good while which I didn’t enjoy cleaning up myself. Duvet could have been thicker and bigger to cover the size of the bed better, as the room was so cold and the pillows were quite flat but we still slept well. The rug in the bedroom also looked like it had seen better days and I wasn’t keen on walking around in bare feet so wore shoes.

The room was ideal for what we needed it for as we we didn’t actually spend that much time in it and the location was fab. Improvements on the cleanliness would really make this hotel worth coming back to.

The location in York was perfect for us, it was only a few minutes walk to numerous different types of restaurants for our evening meal (very limited menu in the hotel) and main attractions of York. If you want to eat an evening meal in your hotel you probably need to look elsewhere.

Our room was modern, clean and had everything that we needed (including a small fridge). The room also had the biggest TV I have ever seen in a hotel bedroom - it felt like John Wayne was in the room with us!

The staff were extremely nice and helpful.

The breakfast which was included in our room rate was buffet style help yourself - there was just about everything you could wish for including bacon, scrambled egg, sausage etc. The make your own waffle machine was very popular!

We liked decor throughout and the informal dining/lounge area.

The shambles one is around 10 minute walk I was quoted £42 for 9am Sunday till 4pm Monday but sure its £22 for 24 hours then you can yop up by the hour. I went online to get a quote and can be booked in advance via the website I didn't end up using so unsure how this works. There was a few other car parks priced cheaper I just googled car park near hotel postcode. There is one about 2 min walk but isn't 24 hours and was quite expensive
