Appaling dropped an American friend off at the Hotel as he had a suite booked for the entire week , parked in the hotel car park , shared a quick drink in the bar with him and left , two weeks later I receive a parking fine of £100.00 , apparently theres no free parking for guests , no obvious signage saying you have to pay !!!! Needless to say my friend is extremely unhappy , rang the manager to try sort this out and didnt even get a response , needless to say he or any of his associates will never use this hotel again , ,

The bedroom window would not open, it was like a sauna in my room. I did not sleep during my two night stay, Noise from trains, banging at 5am. I complained and the best they would do was an upgrade for a future visit. I will stay at The Grand next time.

To start off, the hotel was that bad we did not even stay in it. We had booked this ‘double’ room for £250 for one night for our anniversary weekend away. Check-in staff were lovely but that is the only good thing about this place. Our room was so small we could not even get changed or put an ironing board up. There was a huge fly on the ground as we walked in, coffee drip stains all down the walls along with other liquids, dirty blinds, dirty carpets…I could go on. The hotel manager on shift was very understanding and agreed that this was not acceptable. She offered us a comp room upgrade to a bigger room however due to the cleanliness of the hotel we did not want to stay. We had to book alternative accommodation last minute and ended up paying a lot of money for a room that we then couldn’t even enjoy being in due to having barely any time to get ready for our dinner reservation which we booked months ago and paid a deposit for - which we then ended up missing. This whole experience completely ruined our anniversary - one of the factors when making the decision to travel to York from Edinburgh was based on the pictures of this hotel which are so so misleading. We have left York feeling like we have wasted so much of our time and money which is very upsetting as this was meant to be such a special occasion. I am writing this because I do not want anyone else to be misled and have the same awful experience that we did. For managers reference, please look at Room 321 and compare to the images shown online.

We had a lovey spacious room and the beds were comfy. Unfortunately there were road works just below our room, so a bit noisy at times! Great location for sight - seeing buses which stop just outside. The staff in the bar were helpful and efficient. Drinks expensive (unless you are there during Happy Hour) - the main courses in the restaurant are overpriced for the quality - average really, and the service a bit lack - lustre. Beautiful communal spaces downstairs. I would stay again, but might eat elsewhere.

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights and were drawn in by reputation and quality of the other principal hotels across the country. I was shocked to read so many bad reviews and almost booked somewhere else as a result. It seems most of the intolerant previous residents had issues with noise, smells. food, rooms, service. We didn’t experience any of that and can only conclude that most of the reviews are either planted as false information by competitors or result of warm summer, outdoor bar or questionable views / aspect of room. We stayed in a king on 3rd floor, room 300. If you’re worried about anything just book that one! Tasteful clean decor and great views to the minster. Notable comments for James who went above and beyond to sort out a small issue with audio description hardcoded into the TV, sorted smoothly and efficiently. Great location, atmosphere and setting. We will be back with our dog next time. Don’t believe everything you read from dissolutioned guests who want a megaphone to comment on perceived issues.

Really nice stay, great location and very helpful staff. Went here to break up our trip around the UK. Clean, tidy and covid friendly. Had a great view of the cathedral from our room, huge bathroom. Would go back here again and would definitely recommend to others.

We paid a fair bit to stay here for two nights and we honestly think we could of got better at a premier inn or similar. The communal areas were tastefully decorated and quite grand. Our bedroom was towards the very right of the hotel with the glass entrance. We couldn’t believe how tiny the room was and it was so hot and stuffy. Our window was at ground level which meant we couldn’t open it without having any privacy. We were given a shoddy fan which didn’t do a thing to help cool the room down. The bathroom stunk to high heaven with a sewage smell, we had to keep the door shut. Be aware that if you actually get a space it’s £15 for 24 hours if your staying at the hotel. The breakfast was quite good. Great selection of hot and continental & the staff were very friendly and polite. I ordered an eggs Benedict off the menu which was lovely. Looking back we regret not saying anything about the room & terrible smell. If we were visiting York again I honestly would not choose to stay here, I think for the same price you can get much better elsewhere.

Arrived yesterday, check in was great and easy. The hotel it’s self is styled very nice and the rooms are of good quality decor. Now the food is a whole other issue, I ordered the pate which was plain and boring and was the most uninspiring starter I’ve had this year from such a hotel. Moving on to the main which was beef and mash, which was more like meals on wheels you would receive in an old peoples home. The mash was plain with no seasoning what so ever and had not seen a cow for a drop of milk or butter. Sorry to say but the chef really needs to buck his ideas up because putting your name to this food is not a achievement I would want to be proud of. Your CEO and management team should be embarrassed by the quality your serving. Overall the food, let this hotel down big time..so much so, I wouldn’t return again. 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼 - 1 x ⭐️

My friend and myself booked for four nights, we were horrified when the the day after to have scaffolding erected right outside our window, we had booked rooms with a view, we should have been informed about this at check in, the noise in the afternoon was awful. Breakfast was stone cold every morning, eating dinner in the restaurant a service charge was added and when questioned about it they said we can take it off if you want!!! Do say I wasn’t happy with this hotel is an understatement

Our view was good when we arrived. But we wernt told of any building work to be done outside the room. By Tuesday the view was scaffolding. By Wednesday it was well above the room. The breakfast everyday was cold. We complained on the 2nd day On the 3rd we were asked what we wanted for breakfast, the items were taken from the buffet and re warmed. Eggs were swimming in oil. We decided to have a meal in hotel 2nd night. All we wanted was fish & chips. But were told we could only have a 3 course for £25 so we had 2 & was charged the same. We also had a £10 charge. When this was queried were told they could remove it if we wanted. Well yes we did want. The windows had that much paint on they were hard to open even cleaners couldn't help. We won't go to this hotel again, the rooms were very tired and needed an update. Most of the staff were very helpful. But a couple of dining staff werent. Pictures are views we had after 1st day
