Just returned from our second visit here but our first break away since covid 19 hit us hotel was lovely staff very friendly we paid for breakfast first morning seemed a few young staff on which had been thrown in at the deep end no one seemed to know what they were doing cereals and juices were self serve hot food was served by a member of staff breakfast was cold but didn’t complain has they were all under a lot of pressure we had a evening that night and it was very nice only one waitress on yet again under pressure Second morning for breakfast a few more trained staff on and all breakfast was self service but yet again breakfast was stone cold so yes this issue needs addressed by management. Only other big issue for us was face coverings there is signs at every entrance and more than 80% of guests are Not wearing masks all staff are wearing masks for god sake people covid is out there and I’m sick of hearing where tripped vaccinated it doesn’t matter have respect for staff and other guests I did bring this issue up at checkout and hope something can be done.

We travelled on New Years Day for a couple of days, well what can I say first impressions was wow. Checked in early and walked to our room. It was amazing clean tidy and spacious. Can not fault it. Everything was perfect from when we arrived to when we left, staff were lovely and always asking if we are enjoying our stay. We can not wait to return in the summer 😊

My wife and I found the car parking easy happily positioned close to the hotel. A good helpful start. We checked in 2 hours early with an upgrade, brilliant. Reception staff were warm, friendly, informative , well turned out and helpful. Our first impressions of the hotel was equally impressive. A touch of the Brideshead Revisited we mentioned. A very large imposing, classy looking building, full of character, quality and class. Beautiful lounges, sitting areas, toilets, spa and rooms. A lovely garden room for breakfast. Our room had a magnificent garden and Church view. A spacious classy bathroom and a huge comfy bed. All areas filled with quality, toiletries, tea coffee, art and fridge for water. The only critiques we had was some mechanical noise could be heard at night but, even that was quaint. It is 1897 built after all. The breakfast was not to our tastes. If the hotel could get somewhere near Betty's tea rooms breakfast it would be the best hotel in the world. However, it is most certainly one of the best hotels we have stayed in and we have stayed many great hotels. I'm almost missing this hotel already - we will have long found memories of our recent two day stay. Many thanks to the wonderful people at the fantastic Principle Hotel in York.

We stay in York a couple of times a year and use to stay at the Grange which is now closed. We tried the Principal and the hotel is excellent. The staff in all areas were superb from initial check in where we received a free upgrade, the barman who helped us park and then served us in the evening and the dinning room and breakfast staff. Room was great, communal areas are vast with plenty of space in these covid times. Parking right outside is a bonus. We will be back

I’m having a wonderful time here with my family on the Christmas package. The food is delicious and the staff are marvellous. They very kindly put a Christmas tree with lights on my suite, which has really cheered me up following a big recent bereavement. I thought this Christmas would be terrible following our loss, but the staff have made it one of the loveliest festive experiences ever. The hotel and our rooms are spotlessly clean and we were delighted with the Christmas hamper and also the stocking from Father Christmas hanging on our doorknobs in the morning on Christmas Day. Thank you to all the staff - we are genuinely disappointed to be leaving tomorrow!
