So what is the Hogs Head? It's a small conference and events space with a Sunday carvery and rooms. For me it has a motel feel. We paid £60 on a Friday night for a double room, including full English breakfast for two which we think was a bargain. The plusses: Easy booking, friendly staff. Decent size, clean room. Mattress very firm but comfortable. Clean functional shower room with full sets of towels. Generous amounts of tea and coffee. Quiet location. Great breakfast with branded cereal, lovely coffee and generous helping of well-cooked food. Need to know: Postcode takes you the wrong side of a dead end, so set your Sat Nav for Awsworth Lane, at the end of the lane, take the track to the left and you are there. Minus points: bar & restaurant shut early so check if you plan to eat/drink. Decor in bar old fashioned and some areas could be cleaner. Pillows rather flat. Room could do with soundproofing as we could hear the next room.…
What a fabulous hotel. Cannot praise it highly enough. Rooms spotless and so comfortable. Evening meal was delicious. Very generous portions. Breakfast was lovely Staff welcoming and friendly at breakfast Great parking Lovely quiet area in the countryside
Visited Hogs Head Tues lunchtime and good job we booked as the place was very busy. 2 of us had the Lamb & Mint pie, delicious Homemade Chips & Peas, the others had Steak & Mushroom pie and the Cajun Chicken - both with the Homemade Chips. All the food was served hot and was delicious. The 2 younger members of staff were lovely & friendly - the older member not so much - when she cleared our table we asked her where they sourced their meat from she just said 'not a clue' !! Nice and informative reply (not) !!! Will be visiting again soon.
I stopped here for business last week. I must day that I was very impressed. The hotel bedroom had a nice rustic feel, and the bathroom was modern and clean. I went for food in the pub restaurant downstairs and all I can say is - wow! Proper homecooked meals and great service. Id like to leave a special mention for the 2 women working in the pub bar on Thursday last week (forgot to ask for their names). They made me feel very welcome, and they even sorted me out with a grab bag for lunch as I wasn't able to attend the breakfast session due to leaving for work. Please pass on my thanks! I will most definitely visit again, but for leisure. Beth
Met friends here for Sunday Lunch and although it was very busy the staff looked after us very well The food is well priced and the quality and the quantity of roast beef was excellent- the only thing letting it down was that the vegetables were not replenished and therefore luke warm at best Perhaps you need to eat there earlier to get the best out of it Despite this we enjoyed meeting our friends and having a laugh
Arrived at Hogs Head Hotel just after 6 on Saturday night to a very warm welcome , we were shown to our lovely, perfectly clean room and asked if we would like a table booked for a meal,we freshened up and were sat ready for our meal within the hour
Stayed recently with work colleagues for a few nights. The rooms are really nice and beds extremely comfy. Very quiet, so you get a great nights sleep. The bar food is excellent and great value for money. Plenty of free parking. Much better than a well known chain and also cheaper.
Very pleasant stay, all the staff team were excellent the food was lovely with nice sized portions and fairly priced l The room was clean well proportiond and modern, we will definitely be returning and looking forward to it. Thank you Terry. C
What a find this hotel was. Off the beaten track which makes it isolated and all the more appealing. Makes a good (quiet) night's sleep a certainty. From the very warm welcome and extremely clean room, it was home from home. Large menu in the restaurant and very very reasonable. We managed 2 main courses (lamb and mint pie plus ham and eggs) both superb and well presented. Managed to find room for a dessert - rhubarb crumble and key lime pie with cream. Absolutely delicious. The beer is well kept as well. I would strongly recommend this hotel.
Utilised the Hogs Head hotel for a two night stay and found it a very good B&B experience. The comfortable double room we had looked like it had recently been given a modern makeover, especially the bathroom with shower unit which was very modern decor indeed. Plenty of LED lighting and modern power sockets with the ones by the bedside having USB charging points. Decent amount of storage for a short stay and tea and coffee provided in the room. You do get a bit of traffic noise from the nearby A610 if you have the window open, but outside that it is in a quiet location. The Hogs Head is also a bar and restaurant open to the general public and as well as breakfast we ate in the characterful bar on both evenings finding the home cooked food very good indeed and reasonably priced. If the weather would have been better we would have eaten in the outside garden area of the hotel either side of the impressive koi pond. Constantly good service levels throughout I couldn’t fault our stay here for the price level we paid, and as a B&B and restaurant I can recommend it. The only let down for me as a real ale drinker was that the bar is standard keg beer options only. There was a solitary Old Speckled Hen hand pump but this was off for the duration of our stay and keg Bass doesn’t really do it for me. But it turned out to not be a problem because the excellent CAMRA award winning Gate Inn is under a 10 minute walk up the road. So if you stay here, eat in the hotel bar and then take a walk up the road to the Gate Inn for a decent pint would be my advice.…
