First point to note is that this place is incredibly difficult to find, especially in the dark. Using the postcode in my satnav dropped me nearly a mile short of the hotel. In its heyday this must once have been a fantastic hotel in a wonderful location. It was dark when I arrived and foggy when I left so I...

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel and your stay. I am happy to hear that you liked our building, with oak-panelling, high ceilings and Victorian gothic style. Our gardens are stunning, such a shame you couldn't take advantage due to the foggy weather. I am, however, disappointed that your further findings were not what you'd expect....

The hotel building is old but very beautiful and is set in lovely grounds. We took our dog, who enjoyed the morning and evening walks available right on the doorstep, which made our stay much more relaxed. I know other people have made a few negative comments, but it is a very old building and has does have an old...

Thank you for your review! I am delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us, and your dog did too. Our location, as you say, is great for morning walk in the country park and hotel grounds, adding to our relaxing location. I appreciate and thank you for your understanding that we are an old building, and not...

Arrived and was pleasantly surprised to be given the Queen Victoria room which is the biggest and best bedroom in the hotel and is the Bridal Suite - four poster bed a real fireplace and very large room with double aspect windows. Bar was very relaxing area with a wonderful real fire in a fantastically large fireplace. Went down for...

Having read some poor reviews we had fairly low expectations of the bestwood. We stayed for a family party and we were pleasantly surprised. The drive to the hotel is through a fairly grim area however on arrival at the hotel the building and immediate surroundings are beautiful. The hotel is very grand with high ceilings and wood panelling everywhere....

The mattresses used in this hotel are the sort you find abandoned in skips. Grubby, moisture stained (probably urine), clapped out springs, which would be unacceptable in a hostel for the homeless. If you have a back that requires support then avoid this hotel. My room had the decor of a charity shop i.e. a musty smelling colourless carpet, cheap...

Visited with a large group for an early Christmas meal and what a let down it was. All meals had been pre-rordered and were very obviously pre-prepared judging by the crispy and half-baked offerings put before us. Doesn't matter what you had ordered it was crispy and half-baked and had clearly spent too much time below the servery hot-lights. Even...

How to miss an excellent opportunity, the place could be so much better. Requires some serious money spent on the place. Lack of funds does not excuse poor management, the place is filthy with absolutely no attention to detail. When I say dirty I mean dirty, I am the only one out of 6 who decided to give it another...

We were well pleased with our stay, we had our dog with us, staff were friendly and welcoming. It just makes you feel good to stay there. Cozy, comforting and welcoming what more could you ask for on a trip away from home.

Spent one night here while in the area on business. First impressions I imagine were the same as most, extremely positive from the outside, such a beautiful building. Check in was smooth enough, although I was told I was staying in the 'Noel Gwyn' room, but I didn't catch the name properly, but wrongly assumed it would be written on...
