Arrived late in the evening, check in was simple and staff were very friendly and professional. Ordered a meal from the bar menu, arrived fairly quickly and was to a decent standard. Room was to a good size and nice and clean.
We stayed here in March - just after covid - to visit the university. Convenient location, and we gave the service and food the benefit of the doubt due to the problems hospitality had with staffing. For example, the restaurant was serving the bar menu in the evening due to 'chef on holiday', bar staff untrained in removing a cork from a bottle of wine, unable to charge anything to the room, etc. We have just returned from another stay. Room was ok but getting a bit tired (window didn't close properly, shower dray needed retiling / regrouting, 2x lifts out of order, etc.) hairs around the sink. As far as food and service goes - our poor experience last time appears to be the norm. Bar lunch - coleslaw missing mayonnaise, pickled onions missing from Ploughmans. Restaurant serving bar menu in the evening again due to 'large party dining'. Still no mayonnaise in the evening! No tartare sauce with fish and chips - replaced by a fennel salad - strange choice! Service as slow as last time as well. Easily the worst fish and chips we have ever experienced. Beer-batter seemed to be missing from the fish. Chips a combination of soggy, undercooked, and brown but still not crispy. What commercial kitchen can't make fish and chips properly? We left most of ours and we were not the only people. Same problem with charging to the room - if they need to take card details when you check in, WHY DON'T THEY ASK YOU THEN? Breakfast was adequate, but they still seem to be taken by surprise when people actually turn up and eat. Ran out of orange juice - same as last time. Why don't they put out 2x orange so it is always there? Ran out of dinner plates. Ran out of butter, ran out of coffee.. Entertained by the comedy staff incapable of clearing plates from any table without dropping cutlery on the laminate floor. The staff training is still inadequate. As far as I am concerned, this is a badly managed hotel and without intervention from the top, it will remain this way. They are probably happy to cater for the captive audience of conference-goers. For anyone expecting decent service try elsewhere, or at least dine elsewhere.…
First stay here after dropping son at Uni. Positives first - great location within Notts Uni, large car park. Clean and spacious hotel and large clean double bedroom. Negatives - I went to the gym which was down a flight of stairs (lift broken), and along a corridor, then found you needed an access card and to complete a medical form so back to reception I went as we were not told this at check in. The shower in the room is linked to the bath tap so was low pressure and disappointing. Breakfast - we were told its buffet service by the breakfast hostess, the restaurant was not that busy but when we went to sit at a table of 4 we were told we had to sit at a table for 2. The issue with that is that the 2’s are in a line, someone immediately sat on the table beside us which was so close I felt uncomfortable talking to my wife so intimate breakfast out the window. The food itself was well displayed but looked much better than it tasted - yuk. Judging by what was left on the plate by our new neighbour I believe she didnt think much of it either. Coffee and tea also from jugs which I assume is to cater for the conference side of business - again yuk. The young lad clearing the tables was good and attentive.…
Why is this hotel 4*? We tried to find our room, walked up 2 flights of stairs with heavy baggage to have to come back down again and ask for clarity about directions to our room. The lift wasn’t working so we had to climb 2 floor again in the other wing of the hotel. When we got there, the room was fine. We booked a table in the restaurant and when we arrived we were told it was bar menu tonight. We chose from the limited menu - burgers, pizza, fish & chips - and 20 minutes later I was told my choice wasn’t available. I chose something else - a black bean burger. Food arrived 30/35 mins after we sat down. It was slow and it was average. Such a shame. Staff were pleasant. Great location on Uni of Nottingham campus!
The dinner here used to be good but tonight was served very slowly and was flavourless. Menu very limited fast food style too. Please get back to previous standards of cooking and service. Staff very pleasant and obviously fault of kitchen and not them
When we come to nottingham we only use 2 hotels and this is one of them, the staff the rooms are so comfortable, the breakfast is outstanding, I used to live not far from her, there is so much to do, and it’s very cold in the winter months, but over all we love coming here.
Stayed for one night as we were attending a wedding nearby. Staff were very helpful. We arrived early and they were able to get us into a room before check-in which was great. Rooms were very clean and spacious. Had an ironing board, wifi, hairdryer, and safe. Bar and food prices were a little high, and no food served until noon. Very easy to book a taxi online to/from the hotel, and the hotel has a priority taxi service too.
Stayed for 2 nights for my daughters graduation. Excellent location and great parking facilities. Check inn was smooth and had a room on 4th floor (great views). On arrival entering the room AC appeared to not be working, flagged down a maintenance guy (Kyle I believe his name was) what a great guy! Very polite and attentive and also assisted setting up my dongle and got the AC working. Restaurant was packed so decided to dine out. Housekeeping need to vacuum corridors very dirty when we arrived back late. Overall great hotel and I will be returning when in Nottingham
Great staff, welcoming and helpful . Ideally sited for anything going on on campus. Room ok..Air conditioned but not up to the 4 star rating .carpets worn with obvious holes near bathroom door .floor tiles loose in bathroom. Poor selection on menu in the restaurant and small portions . I had a steak ,no salad ,no mushrooms ,no tomatoe ,meanest portion of chip ever Drinks pricey. Plus side fabulous staff
The hotel is in a great location for a short drive or 10/15 minute walk to the hockey centre. Breakfast is decent although you are charged extra for a latte. Room wasn’t cleaned (stayed for 2 nights) but I hadn’t made much of a mess so wasn’t bothered. Would happily stay there again.
