We loved our stay at Bruern and found it very hard to leave. The cottages have stunning interiors and come equipped with everything from luxury toiletries, board games, kitchen utensils to satisfy the best of chefs and more books than you could read in a lifetime. The gardens, setting, pool and huge variety of things to do in the area...

We stayed here for 3 nights - our family is 2 adults, and children aged 10 and 11. The house was so pretty, comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen. We loved the swimming pool, the gardens and the pool. We would recommend this to our friends.

This place is beautiful, its a rare "child friendly" break that also feels luxurious for the adults. Stunning location, excellent quality accommodation, grown ups games room, lots to do in the area. And for the toddlers - Everything you need, cots, exciting toy cupboard (huge selection) big garden/swing set and the best thing of all a play cabin - again...

We recently returned to Bruern for our 10th visit after an absence of 9 years staying in Sandown for the first time. Bruern is very special to us as it was to my friend and law partner who took us there for our first visit in 1999. Our stay was as memorable as all of the others, and we found...

We just loved our 4 nights in Wychwood cottage. Packing was so much easier when toys, monitors, etc are provided and of course new toys are always more exciting for toddlers. The welcome pack was yummy with local bread, eggs and butter - a nice cake as well. We also found our little girl slept better in the cottage than...

I loved our stay at Bruern (in Epsom)...one of the most relaxing, lovely holidays I've ever had. The place was beautiful as were the surroundings. The downside was having to leave... There's a certain shabby chicness to the Bruern Cottage we stayed in and athough it felt very chilly in there (even with sunshine outside) we had a lovely fire...

Thank you so much for your kind review. I'm glad to hear it was 'one of the most relaxing holidays you have had'. We are currently in the process of refurbishing the family bathroom and then the kitchen in September. Funny to hear about your husband struggling to get into the dressing gown, however we will look at getting more...

This place is good for the soul. I have been so many times and hope to visit so many more. When you arrive you find your cottage kitted out with the most amazing welcome pack it's above all expectations. The cottages are so quaint with lovely real fires and an olde world charm, they are not perfect but they are...

We stayed here for a week in Jan 2017. We stayed at the Epsom cottage. It's a 3 bedroom with a good size sitting room (real fire) and smallish kitchen. Private garden of a very good size - which wld be really good for summer stays. Rooms are ok. Heating is a little weak no matter what we do. Showers...

We just finished a vacation rental at Weir House at Bruern Cottages. We stayed with one other family - so a total of 4 adults and 5 young kids (aged 2-7). The setup worked perfectly, with two separate accommodation areas (one wing with 3 beds and then the upstairs with 2 beds). The living space is open plan - a...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In the heart of the Cotswolds, between Chipping Norton, Stow-on-the-Wold and Burford, Bruern Holiday Cottages are one of the few holiday rentals to welcome guests just as a hotel does - for a single night or for eight weeks, both during the week and at the weekend. Even though Bruern is self-catering, you are not expected to entirely provide for yourself on your first night, so when you arrive, there are essentials like milk, butter, eggs and sausages waiting for you, along with a few little luxuries like champagne, homemade cakes and local artisan cheese with biscuits. Twice National Winners of VisitBritain’s England for Excellence Award, and current holders of EnjoyEngland’s Gold Award for quality, Bruern Holiday Cottages set a new benchmark for self-catering when Judy Astor first started converting the properties in 1992, at one time comprising eight of the properties holding VisitBritain’s top grade awards, has compared with only 132 for the whole of the rest of Great Britain. Bruern offers the comfort and attention to detail of a good hotel, combined with the privacy, independence and space of home, amidst the civilised ease and style of English Country House living. However, there are four things that really set Bruern apart from other self-catering holiday rentals. Firstly, it is a paradise for children, with three playgrounds, a play cabin, a wendy house, who, toy cars and bicycles for every child and in every size - and above all other children. Lastly, there’s a games room with, pool, table tennis and table football, for older teens (and maybe older-than-teens), for whom the above are a little too babyish. Secondly, there is the decor, which eschews the monotonous orthodoxies of minimalism, being unashamedly English Country House style – the atmosphere is elegant yet comfortable, and all the properties have log fires, and canopied or four poster beds. Thirdly, the gardens, which are a blend of formal and informal elements, feature topiary, cutting gardens with box hedges, gazebos, little orchards, statuary, a wisteria tunnel, and a vast hundred yard herbaceous border. There is barely a square foot of the entire estate that has not been planned out with a passion for landscape and an eye for detail. In 1999 Bruern’s gardens were even awarded a marking of 100 out of 100 by VisitBritain that neither we nor anyone else has ever bettered; and nor will it ever be bettered, unless the laws of arithmetic change. Finally, there is the indoor swimming pool, gym and spa, which looks out on to a separate Italianate garden and terrace, with a classical portico to sit beneath in the shade. Cited by Tatler in 2009 as one of the “101 best spas in the world”, here you can book reflexology, massages, pedicures, manicures and facials. All in all, Bruern is a place that is simply unique – over eighty percent of our business comes from returning guests, and of new guests the majority come from personal word-of-mouth recommendations. We haven’t had a review score on TripAdvisor of less than 5/5 (Excellent) in 3 years – if you read the reviews, you’ll see why. ... more   less
