Until we were bought a stay here for our Golden wedding present,we were not aware that Oxford had a castle. How pleased we were when our son and his partner treated us to a wonderful stay at Malmaison which to the delight of my husband, who worked as a prison officer, used to be a prison and even though it is now a...

Well this was only our second time staying in a former prison. The time before was in Spain. They must have spent a lot of money converting it to the really nice hotel that it is now. Will visit again if in Oxford.

Stayed on a bed and bubbles deal on a Sunday night. The hotel itself is absolutely amazing... a converted prison. Our room was basically three cells knocked through. The attention to detail is brilliant, with many of the original features retained. Having stayed in many different hotels that all blend into one after time I think it highly unlikely I...

Great place to base a visit to oxford, located centrally and easy walk from the station if required. Conversion from the prison done extremely well, rooms spacious and well furnished. Communal areas are just stunning. We ate in the brasserie where the food was very good but the service pretty slow, but to be honest that did not bother us...

I had heard a lot about this hotel so was very excited to get an opportunity to book it for our first weekend away with our 4 week old son. There was no issue with accommodating our newborn and the room (suite) was big enough to house all our bits and pieces (pram, travel cot, etc). The actual hotel is...

Although a bit critical of some issues the overall experience of staying in a prison was really quite interesting. My issues are is that the hotel is selling itself, and charging, way above what it should be! We arrived with no welcome! A bit sad as we were quite excited. The entrance door promised so much. Checked in... paid up...

We had a party arranged last night and the whole experience is one never hopefully to be repeated..slow service, cold food, left before dessert at 3 hours at the table.. the waitress looked as though she did not want to be there, took over an hour to get our food served, drinks orders took forever, was appalling actually......if you are looking...

I will echo the previous reviewer who said you have to stay here even just for the experience of sleeping in a converted cell! So much thoughtful detail has gone into this place and we loved it. Very special.

I took my mum here for Afternoon Tea for her birthday, on a Saturday Afternoon. The restaurant wasn't too busy and the staff were polite and friendly as we were trying to find our way. The food was delicious, although the savoury was overdone by the sweet- still lovely food! However, the service was disappointing. It didn't feel as though...
