We arrived a day after my birthday, staff too busy to even look up, eventually we were dealt with (and it seemed like that!) the room was not very clean and had a huge white hand print on the headboard which was a little offputting, the bathroom floor was dirty! In the morning at 8:25 an alarm went off which...

Visited this place while on a recent walk around Oxford. Setting is picturesque, it's an old prison within a castle and the building is very attractive. The service in the bar on the rooftop was extremely poor and slow. The waiter appeared to speak very bad English (foreigner) and certainly didn't match up to the standard of the hotel. I...

The Malmaison hotel is located in the old Oxford Jail (Gaol surely?). The location is a short walk from the main rail station and provides easy access to Oxford's main points of interest, such as the Ashmolean, Radcliffe Circle, Bodlean Library, etc. Adjacent to the hotel are a selection of restaurants and pubs, should you decide not to venture in...

This hotel retains the facade of the old jail in Oxford. Like the quirky bits such as the old cell on the ground floor and the original doors to the room. The staff were very good and the place does ooze charm and sophistication. Nice restaurants around the property.

This is a lovely hotel - fantastic location, different and with character. It's great stepping out of the lift and onto the landing - it makes a change from your standard hotel! The room was really comfy, well kitted out and I loved the roll top bath! The reason I didn'g give this the full 5 rating is because of...

The hotel has a great location and a great atmosphere. It has been decorated extremely tasteful. The only thing that was really bed were the beds: the matrasses were so hard that we figured they wanted to give us real prisonfeeling with a wooden bed. However since the beds are very lare part of why you are in a hotel...

My husband and I had a great one night stay at the Malmaison. The location couldn't be better, and the service at the hotel was great. There is very limited parking on site, and it's pricey (call ahead if you want to park on site). You can save a bit by parking at at a long term parking garage about...

Me and my mother decided to take a trip around the UK, and Malmaison was the last one of the hotels we stayed in. We were in awe at the first sight of the hotel, I was shocked to see that we were, in fact, staying in a castle! How often can you say that? The decor was lovely and...

On our recent family vacation to England and Wales, this hotel was our biggest "splurge" of the trip. Very expensive, but we wanted to treat ourselves by staying here. As a couple with two teen children, we had to book two rooms, substantially increasing the cost. (As a North American traveler, I love traveling in Europe, and visiting different cultures,...

This is a proper marmite review......the good points...the restaurant food was delicious and service excellent, great cocktails, the visitors bar staff fab too and of course overall the building is amazing. BUT ........like many others have mentioned the lack of air con (never did establish if our room even had any) is dreadful and we had a terrible nights sleep...
