The historic grade II listed Prince Rupert Hotel is situated in the very heart of medieval Shrewsbury and just a short stroll from the individual shops and many tourist attractions. Surrounded by narrow cobblestone streets and black and white timbered buildings it provides the perfect base to explore beautiful Shrewsbury. A warm and friendly welcome is always provided to all guests with a glass of sherry on arrival. With the heritage of the hotel dating back to the 12th and 15th century, character and charm abound with sloping floors, exposed Tudor beams and a restored Jacobean staircase. Privately owned for many years by Michael & Diane Matthews, the hotel offers a great choice of dining all with a focus on fresh local produce. The Royalist is ideal for a special occasion with an a la carte menu together with a superb wine list. Chambers brasserie is renowned for its traditional British menu at sensible prices and located at the front of the hotel overlooking the gardens of St. Alkmunds square, Camellias Tea Rooms offers an extensive menu selection including traditional afternoon tea served on a three tier cake stand. A charming place to relax to the sound of a grand piano. Valet parking is provided to the hotel's private car park at a cost of £5 per night.

Maybe I was lucky in that the hotel was relatively quiet on a Tuesday evening. However, I had a comfortable night of sleep and on waking was refreshed by an efficient shower. The breakfast was ample and delicious and provided by attentive service. It is true that the decor of

Dear Guest, A huge thank you from myself and my team for sharing your recent experience of staying at the Prince Rupert and also for your fantastic five star score. I was delighted to read that you thoroughly enjoyed your stay, had a good nights sleep and enjoyed both the attentive breakfast service and the quality of the food. As you quite rightly state, the Grade 2* Listed Prince Rupert is certainly historic with parts of the hotel dating back to the 12th Century. Indeed, the hotel is reputedly the most historic within the UK. Prince Rupert lived at the property in the mid 1600's and thankfully many of the original features remain intact for our guests to view. Indeed, should you return for a second stay I would be delighted to show you the historic vaulted cellars which are approached down a stone spiral staircase together with the many tunnels which once connected the property to the adjacent churches. Once again, thank you so much for your kind and generous words and I sincerely hope to have the pleasure of personally welcoming you back at some point in the future. With kindest regards, Mike Matthews Owner

Location is spot on being in the centre of the city but we were let down by tardy service on check in. Three receptionists all seemed to be wandering around like headless chickens. When we eventually got our room we had to change it because of the large window that overlooked

Dear Angelina, Thank you for your feedback following your recent stay with us. I will most certainly follow up your comments with the hotel operational team. I am always very grateful for constructive comments as it provides us with an opportunity to further improve our service, guest hospitality and overall standards. I should just mention that new high quality Brintons carpets were fitted last year within the hotel and including the lift. In the reception area we used Cloud 9 11mm underlay to add additional comfort to the actual carpets. This was laid throughout the lobby, lounge and restaurant areas. Again, thank you for your feedback. With kindest regards, Mike Matthews Owner
