Tricky to find: don't just rely on satnav saying Bathwick Hill. It takes you up other driveways "as the crow flies", Find lamp post number 30 which is near CLAVERTON LODGE, by 2 bus stops. If the driveway doesn't have the YHA sign, then you are going up the wrong one !! You can take car up to the YHA...

Thank you very much for leaving a review, and thanks for the helpful hints about finding the hostel! We send out an email when our guests book with advice about how to get here, including a warning not to use Satnav. Just look out for the green YHA triangle at the bottom our driveway!

I've stayed at this hostel with a friend for one night and enjoyed it a lot. It's only 20 minutes from the city centre (although bear in mind: you walk down a steap hill to get into the centre and have to walk back up again, but it really is not as bad as it seems) AND you've a got...

Thank you for such a kind a review! The walk up the hill can certainly take a bit of effort; I personally prefer to take the bus up! Luckily we have regular buses going to and from town, although if the weather is nice nothing beats the view on the way down! Your comments regarding the cleanliness of the common...

Location is not bad, half way up Bathwick hill, you can take a uni bus from the centre or walk. There is a communal kitchen which is handy. There are rooms which have a 'pod' bathroom. Unfortunately mine was not as clean as I would have hoped. The carpet in my room had also seen better days and could have...

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We're very sorry to hear that your bathroom wasn't as clean as it should have been, but we hope that your stay was other wise enjoyable. You'll be pleased to hear that we are scheduled for a refurbishment this winter, and there a few areas which will be addressed. We...

Friendly helpful staff, budget stay but very comfortable none the less... Nice clean warm secure rooms. tucked away from the busy main roads yet within walking distance to the city quarters... My only negative point though.... It seemed a bit odd that there were only 2 shower cubicles serving my block of dorms towards the rear of the property... and...

Many thanks for your review. We're happy to hear that you'd recommend us! It sounds like your room was located in our annex - there are 6 communal showers throughout this building, serving 6 rooms (the rest of the rooms in the lodge are en-suite). Unfortauntely, we aren't able to allow guests to park onsite, but there is plenty of...

The hostel locates at a quite hill. It is away from the city noise yet still easy to get to. The room was clean, staff were friendly. The best thing is they have this big kitchen and common area where people can meet new friends and share their dishes. It's a perfect place to stay.

This hostel is absolutely lovely. The common areas are clean, bright, and cozy, with plenty of toilets and showers available, and stunning grounds. If you are looking for somewhere close to a historic city, and yet removed enough to feel in the quiet woods, this is definitely the place. The price cannot be beat, and the facilities are excellent. The...

Staff helpful and accommodating. Facilities great. What our roomed lacked was more than made up for by the view and location. No complaints just happy days. The age of the property is beginning to tell but looking forward to when it is refurbished, but please don't lose any of its character when you do.

Thanks for the review! We're glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay so much. The hostel is getting a little worn in places (understandable for a 170-year old building!) but we are also looking forward to our refurbishment. We're happy to hear that you'll be returning, and hope the new look will meet all of your expectations.

We stayed here for two nights and we were very impressed. It's situated up a steep hill away from the centre but this really wasn't a problem as the buses are excellent and run from right outside very frequently through the day and night. The beds are really comfy and the room nice and clean. The house itself is impressive...

In my opinion, a really fancy place to consider its only a youth hostel. I went with my friends from Leicester on a trip to bath for a function. And we returned to the youth hostel around 1am and we'd been warned the doors would be locked however we were given the combination to get in. Great place. Would recommend.

Thanks for the review, Sam. We lock the doors when reception closes at 11pm for security, but all guests are given a door code which will admit them after this time. We think everyone should spend as much time exploring Bath as possible without having to worry about a curfew!
