We had been looking forward to our visit to the Gainsborough spa hotel bokked as a relaxing break between Christmas and New year. Sadly we were disappointed. Not nearly the 5 tr experience we were expecting. I understand that covid 19 has had an impact on the hospitality sector but the hotel was very under staffed. The room was not clean, dust on the kettle and coffee machine. Open toiletries in the bathroom. The lift carpet hadn’t been vacuumed for some time. The lounge was full of empty glasses and plates. One hard working and very pleasant barman was covering the bar and lounge. The spa was very nice, no problems there. The shower in the bathroom was a let down. I'd stayed the Apex across the road, only 4 star but much nicer!

Just returned from a wonderful stay in The Townhouse, which is just simply stunning. I arrived earlier than the rest of my party, who were travelling further. I was greeted by Stuart, who showed me around and for whom nothing was too much trouble, he was so helpful and simply delightful. The welcome hamper was plentiful, full of organic treats and ample food for a yummy breakfasts for the 5 of us. Enjoyed the bath house spa including steam rooms etc. Plenty of water to keep one hydrated or if you chose to, some hot chocolate was also, literally, on tap. Had complimentary cocktails in the bar before setting out of dinner. Absolutely delicious and the chap making them (sorry didn't get his name) was really knowledgeable and good fun, and helped us choose. It was my second visit and will definitely be back !

We went on a City stay for two days in early January and it was a fantastic stay from beginning to end. The welcome was warm and friendly and the service impecable. I thought it was a nice touch of the General Manger turned up to welcome us and he also saw us as we departed. Where do you get service like that nowadays? The concierge had creat recomendations for restaurants and was extremly helpful with all our other enquiries, he certaily went the extra mile. The Hotel is Luxurious as you would expect but had very much the feel of a small Boutique Hotel. One of the highlights is the Spaa areas with its pools / saunas / steam rooms and beauty treatments. We certainly will be back soon

We stayed for 2 nights in a suite at the front of the hotel, the room was not exactly a 5 star room, the headboard had stains on it, the bath robes were ripped, the wardrobe door didn't close properly unless you kept it closed with a suitcase (otherwise the internal light kept you awake all night, for some reason the lounging area had been made up as a bed, we asked for this to be put back to the sofa, unfortunately nobody turned up and we had to do it ourselves then someone did decide to come and do it after another call. The bathroom was a little tired overall not the best. We had breakfast on both mornings, the first morning it was inedible, poached eggs that turned out to be boiled and a sausage which could have been used for our wardrobe doorstop. The second morning the breakfast was a lot better, but we did ask for each item to be cooked correctly. Sleeping at the hotel was horrendous, due to the very nice Georgian style windows at the front they are single glazed and each night we were woken 3 times, I would suggest a room at the back of the hotel, not sure if the noise is reduced back there. We have stayed in many hotels in the UK and I am sorry to say that this is not worth £500 plus per night and cannot be classed as a 5 star establishment. The good thing is the location.

The actual hotel itself is great but a few things during our experience let it down. Place is lovely and modern along with great rooms and in our bathroom we had a nice big shower with free standing bath. Bar staff where naff. Asked for a lemonade after waiting at the bar for 15 minutes. Barman just hands me a bottle with no glass and acted shocked when I asked for one. Breakfast was ok but tiny and for £30 each not worth it. Unfortunately outside at night people pulling up in cars with loud music just being annoying. Luckily after moaning they knocked off the drinks and breakfast.
