Excellent stay in this fabulous old inn. Staff very friendly and chatty, food and drink good and as usual the atmosphere was great. Can’t beat the location either. This was third or fourth stay and won’t be long until the next one. Enjoyed the extended outside seating area as well, perfect for a nightcap..

Stayed one night during our stop in Somerset, Twin room was very clean and well kept with large shower room. It's very old lovely building dating back to the 15th Century with old beams, slopping staircases and charm. My only meh is my bed was a tad springy but nothing to really complain about. Breakfast was very good and massive so set us up for a late late lunch. Pub has a good selection of drinks and serves food

Booked this hotel for two nights because of the history and it didn’t disappoint the hotel has great curb appeal looks fantastic if a bit pricey. Room was basic but clean and full of character including a sloping floor which in the middle of the night was interesting. There was plenty of tea and coffee in the room including a cafetière and real coffe. In the morning the breakfast was served by a cheerful women who even though busy was attentive. We are in the restaurant one night and again can’t fault the decor but the food although tasty was expensive for what you got. Great place to stay but eat somewhere else if hungry.

Sambles. Booked for a meal a month in advance, arrived at 7pm after a long journey from North Wales, told there was a function on so we could not order food for half an hour, final told we were able to to order off the bar menu 45 minutes later. Not the menu we saw online, and really disappointed with the delays considering we booked. In the end we had a pack of crisps and left!!

Called in on the off chance for a meal. Waited in the queue , staff saw us and others waiting. There were two female staff one was serving at the bar other at till not serving. We waited and waited. In the end asked if there were any tables only to be told "Go down there and see if you can find an empty table , green means it's free" . We looked for an empty table and could not find one even though lots were empty. The staff could not care less. We left and got a meal elsewhere. The staff were not busy just could not be bothered.

Response from Sam Dean, General Manager at George and Pilgrims Hotel
Responded 12 Aug 2021
We apologise that we were unable to fit you in. We are extremely busy at the moment due to increased tourism. However, we take our obligations to protect the public extremely seriously. All of our tables are sprayed with an anti-viral disinfectant that has a contact time of 10 minutes, this is why tables are empty but not suitable to be sat on (hence the red signs). We feel it is more important to ensure public safety than to squeeze as many people into the premises as possible.
