I booked a superior double which looked lovely on the website and indeed it was, on arrival. It was situated in the courtyard in the ground level. It was clean, tidy, spacious and well equipped with high-end toiletries. Unfortunately, the Wifi does not reach to the courtyard rooms and whilst I’d hoped for a bit of a catch-up of shows on my iPad, this wasn’t to be. The beds in the superior rooms are billed as super king but this one wasn’t. To the point I even measured it when I couldn’t sleep (more on this in a sec - a teaser!) and it was a standard double. The main issue with this stay was the noise. Not the hustle and bustle of being in central Wells, but that from within the hotel. The upper courtyard rooms are accessed via a metal staircase with an exterior metal walkway all along the top floor. And my goodness - was this loud! Every time anyone came or went - or god forbid rolled a suitcase - it was an almighty clatter that would wake the dead. And other guests congregating in the court yard after hours to chat also contributed to the soundtrack of my stay and it really does echo and amplify. The noise from within other rooms was also palpable. I think the guests staying above me might want to visit their GP; the frequency with which I had to hear their tinkling wee was akin to a record breaking attempt. And the amount of baths they took! It sounded like Niagara falls. Did they have sealife with them?! It wasn’t only their water based pursuits that was an assault on your hearing; literally every step they took, every move they made, I was living that with them. I visited during Storm Arwen and whilst the weather cannot be controlled, it can be predicted and preventative action can be taken to lessen the impact on guests. Nevertheless, at 3am I was out in the courtyard trying to secure slamming gates and shift debris that was flying around creating a racket. I know this is is largely beyond their control, but perhaps they ought to have battened down the hatches more effectively. The staff I encountered were perfectly pleasant and the positioning could barely be more central but based on noise disturbance alone, I doubt I’ll be returning. Thanks for the experience though!

We booked for an evening meal on the day as we'd arrived in Wells in the afternoon and the restaurant was close by. The young lady was very accommodating and asked if we wanted any particular table. When we arrived the table was reserved in our name and again she had a very polite manner. Our food arrived and it was absolutely delicious. Everything was hot (and we asked for extra gravy which wasn't a problem 🙂), there was plenty of it and it was very filling. Can't fault the service or the quality. Really enjoyable.

Excellent location in centre of Wells opposite the cathedral. Friendly staff and cosy bar. The accommodation is probably best described as comfortable and they have made the most of what they have but not sure I'd want to stay longer than overnight. The bathroom was very small but all extremely clean.

The rooms and would hotel need updating. I accept the property is ancient but our room was very scruffy. Blinds falling off the window and the radiator not working. Carpet to rooms very dirty. However the bedding and towels we're clean the beds comfortable and the staff very friendly. Thought far too expensive for a standard room

Dear jackyp22, We appreciate the time you have taken to leave your review of your recent stay with us here at The White Hart in Wells. You will be delighted to know that we are currently under way again with small renovation projects throughout the property now that we are gradually recovering from lockdowns this past year and half. Soft furnishings to include blinds and curtains has been one of those items and we are well under way. On the issue with the radiator, that has now been dealt with, thankfully nothing else than a thermostat to change! Thank you once again for your review. With kind regards, Megan Young General Manager

My wife and I had dinner here last night, well we left most of it as the food was appalling, the worst I have ever been served. I had pie, mash and veg. The pie was barely edible, the mash was one solid dense lump all dried out, I guess it had been cooked some considerable time earlier and microwaved, it was inedible. My wife's dinner was just as bad. The veg was obviously frozen, not necessarily a problem, however it was hard and cold. I asked to speak to a manager but there was nobody available. I have scored one out of five because I cannot score zero which is what it deserves. We will never visit here again under any circumstances. The only positive from the evening was Connor behind the bar and seemingly doing almost everything by himself, he was excellent and really deserves to be working somewhere much better.

Dear stevew409, Thank you for taking the time to leave your review, however, I am sorry to see that it wasn't more constructive or positive. We are actually proud to say that our pies (from the famous Pie Minister in Bristol) are actually the most popular dishes on the menu which we often end up selling out of due to the locals coming back for more each week! It is, however, encouraging to hear such lovely feedback regarding our barman Connor who was actually Duty Manager that evening. Thank you once again and perhaps we will have the opportunity to welcome you back in December when we will be featuring the festive Pie Minister pies! With kind regards, Megan Young General Manager
