Went in to get a drink and play pool with three friends on a Sunday evening. Instantly rudely ID'd before even ordering a drink and told "you can't be here after nine" before even checking the ID (we were ages 20-22). Felt very unwelcome and were questioned how many games we would play before starting. Before even having been playing... More

Nice comfortable room, very clean, great shower and loads of room! Lovely people and a nice dog, easy to get in and out of. Just did not get my breakfast was offered money back in recompense, which was a nice touch! Very quiet place considering its above a bar, even at closing time. Only issue is not easy to park... Why didn't we stay here last year? I knew I would be late arriving so called ahead and was reassured it was no problem. Welcomed by a lovely lady who gave me my room key and assured me I didn't need to rush to get back for a pint. The pint may have been Strongbow but it was well kept.... More

I stay here every year for the August Bank Holiday weekend. I always get a warm welcome from Mark the landlord. The pub is a traditional one serving a wide selection of GK beers and lagers. Pool table and dartboard are a great bonus. The rooms are clean, basic and practical. As I am visiting for cricket tour I am... More

The Black Boy Inn is what I would call a typical local pub, a little outside of the centre on a quieter road (which was barely audible most of the time and secondary glazing cut the noise out any other time). There was noise from the bar itself until 23:30 / 00:00 most nights but with it being a pub... More

I worked in Bury 20 years ago and was returning for a get together and chose the Black Boy because it was so convenient. We managed to park at the pub as did a couple of other guests. Room 2 was spotlessly clean and the bed very comfortable. We could hear some noise from the bar below but it wasn't... More

I booked this overnight stay with a friend as we was traveling to a spa nearby the next day and wanted to be near. We arrived around 5 and was greeted by a lady behind the bar who told us we were lucky that they was open as they normally shut in the afternoon but the booking form said check... More

After a cursory welcome by the landlord, during which on site parking wasn't offered and we were told breakfast was "at 8.30am" we went up to our small room. It was clean and freshly painted but otherwise unmodernised. There were two single beds either side of the door with no reading lights or bedside tables, the wardrobe was a rail... More
